  1. I wouldnt say my favourite, but a teacher I learned alot from is Brother Rehawi. I went to an Islamic School for a good few years of my elementary and middle school years. He was our arabic teacher. But he was always one of those teachers that went completely off tangent from what we were supposed to learn. He would talk about Islamic history all the time, and even tho he had spoke broken english, I musta been the only student actually payin attention. Thats where my love for Islamic History began even tho he used to beat the crap outta us lool. Sumthin good did come out of all that abuse.
  2. loool- thats hilarious flyin. Yea I'm still waitin' to get the "talk" from my motha- but I aint holding by breathe.
  3. Instinct..to answer youer Q.. Trust died along with chivalry...what is this world coming to.
  4. That'd only seem like you got somethin to hide Instinct..hmm...do U? lol.. Neways, I'd definitely get my husband checked out. Not only that, we'd swipe information in front of the doctor so he wont give no falsified information. Sorry but this sistah is takin no chances.
  5. I got FIVE A's (for everyone who knows me, see..I am Down-to-Earth ), 2 B's and 1 C (and that was only about being fired-I think I would burn up more than a few important documents lol).
  6. In all honesty, I have seen some very violent somali fathers who've deserved to be punished by the freakin law for not using some God-given common sense. I'm sorry, but nobody should be beat till they're black and blue (Islam doesn't even permit hittin' someone in the face lest u leave a bruise) so I definitely think puttin them in a near coma is acceptable. If the parent has a rage problem, should that also be the child's problem? This girl is 12 people, 12. Instead of actually seeking out whether she was threatened, the community chooses to blame her. I doubt whether they even investigated her claims thoroughly. And folks, we are somali, we know our habits and somalis have invented the idea of exaggeration. If a stone hit you, you'll tell everyone that you were hit by a meteorite. C'mon now, sounds like the fam is exaggeratin thru their teeth.
  7. Lol- be strong girl..U can do it. Especially all you freshmen. Remember you aint paying all that money so that it can go down the drain soon as some boy breaks ur heart.. no no no. I know y'all can do it.
  8. Lool- y'all enjoy! One train which was going peacefully on the rail-tracks suddenly deviated from the tracks and went to the fields nearby and then came back on the tracks. The passengers were horrified. On the next Railway station the driver was caught. When he was questioned. He explained that there was a man standing on the track and he was not moving from there even after lots of honks etc. Then authorities questioned: Are you mad! just to save life of one person you put life of so many passengers under danger. You should have run over that person. Driver said: Exactly, that is what I also decided, but this ***** started running towards the field when the train came very close.
  9. A psychiatrist was conducting a group therapy session with four young mothers and their small children... "You all have obsessions," he observed. To the first mother, Mary, he said, "You are obsessed with eating. You've even named your daughter Candy." He turned to the second Mom, Ann: "Your obsession is with money. Again, it manifests itself in your child's name, Penny." He turns to the third Mom, Joyce: "Your obsession is alcohol. This too manifests itself in your child's name, Brandy." At this point, the fourth mother, Kathy, gets up, takes her little boy by the hand and whispers. "Come on, Dick, we're leaving."
  10. In Bahrain, a male doctor may legally examine a woman's genitals, but Is prohibited from looking directly at them during the examination. He may only see their reflection in a mirror. Lol..ok, how much sense does that make? Hes gonna see it either way loooool...
  11. Lol..number # 4&16 cracked me up.
  12. Che-Guevere- Ppl, just wondering it seems everybody who respond to the topic who don't fit Silent-Sista's describtion of somalis. Lets take a sample. What are the chances of all us not having one of those habits. I guess all good somalis are in SOL...lol Lol- I guess we must be..
  13. I do kinda miss watchin Buranbur dances-it's been ages since I've seen one. With everyone havin their "western" weddings, I don't think it's too long before it dies out. I vividly remember the one time I was brave and jumped in, I wasn't too shabby, if I do say so myself, but that was the end of my Buranbur career lol.
  14. Lol..I agree with DAD on this one. I didn't know guys talked about anything BUT politics and sports.. aha, let me stop hatting.

  16. Silent-Sistah, I totally see why you're frustrated. I dont have too many Somali friends(all cuzzins actually) and everytime I get around Somali folks, I get to feeling like we have nothin' in common. But don't loose faith in all Somali's girl cuz we aint all the same. I'm havent met too many Somali that are on the same page as me, but I aint giving up.
  17. lool- i don't know what this is gonna accomplish, but I'd marry one of my friends (the total package in many ways-fioone, educated and versatile). I really fancy him lol. A aahh- ima go daydream rite now.

    Advice Needed!

The way I see it- the money factor may not play a huge part now that they're not married, but I think its common knowledge that most men feel insecure about having a wife that brings in more money than themselves. I totally feel for her, thats a tough situation to be in, and its easier for us to judge cuz we aint in that predicament. Noone knows whats really in her heart except her and Allah, so only she knows how weak/strong her feelings are. If she does love the brotha, I'd say go for it (keyword being love). Call me a romantic-but love may not conquer all, but it sure can come close.

  20. This site looks really interestin from what Ive read so far. The amazing part is how they suggest that Eve might be from Somalia (or near that area). I guess it is plausible since the oldiest bones have been found along Ethiopia and some parts of Ethiopia used to be Somalia. Ima keep reading so ciao folks.

    Why not...?

Kaafi- I was so surprised to read this post because my roommate and I discussed this once before. I know the Tanzanian Community or Student Organizations got together in Ohio this summer, and I was soo jealous that us Somalis don't have anything like that. We started brainstorming how we could get this jump-started and we came up with a few ideas: 1. Contact various universities Somali Student Organizations or MSA's (alot of Somalis are active) and forming a huge assocation 2. Choose a different city every year to hold an annual conference, p (Ohio, Atlanta, San Diego-everybody put their bid in) 3. Book a hotel for the out-of-towners that accomodates us with conference rooms and such 4. Bringing speakers (various professionals) and having some workshops (ex. What To Do/Not Do During an Interview, Writing Succesful Resumes, etc) 5. Having a huge picnic the last day and some social events for everyone to get to know each other 6. Giving out awards to those who have organized it or the Most-Outstanding ----- (fill in the blank) Jus throwing out ideas-
  22. STHML lol-thats real cute. I suggest we got more emoticons (aka graemlins, on here)and being able to download our very own avators of choice (maybe that already exists, but how bout makin it easy enuff for the regular layman to use it?) I'll be back soon as I think of more.
  23. I put it like this- I wouldn't be suffering through school if I didn't believe money could help me achieve many of my goals in life. It definitely doesn't come before my deen and spirituality but it sure does interfere with it. We lose our deen in pursuit of this green paper. I guess it all depends how you use the money; but nobody can deny that its the dream of people to be as well off as possible- I confess, I'm one of those people lol.
