Mars is going to be a second moon of earth for a day. NO ONE ALIVE TODAY WILL EVER SEE THIS AGAIN. The Red Planet (MARS) is about to be spectacular! This month and next, Earth is catching up with Mars in an encounter that will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in recorded history. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287. Due to the way Jupiter’s gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit, astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not come this close to Earth in the last 5,000 years, but it may be as long as 60,000 years before it happens again. The encounter will culminate on August 27th when Mars comes to within 34,649,589 miles of Earth and will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in the night sky. It will attain a magnitude of -2.9 and will appear 25.11 arc seconds wide. By August 27, Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. Mars will be easy to spot. At the beginning of August it will rise in the east at 10p.m. and reach its azimuth at about 3 a.m. by the end of August when the two planets are closest, Mars will rise at nightfall and reach its highest point in the sky at 12:30a.m. That’s pretty convenient to see something that no human being has seen in recorded history. So, mark your calendar at the beginning of August to see Mars grow progressively brighter and brighter throughout the month. Share this with your family, friends, children and grandchildren . Source

Some of you have misunderstood the concept - “It means cutting down the hours you put into your main job, so you can do a second, more interesting oneâ€. Not essentially getting a second job (oh GOD NO!) on top of the 1st. A lot of us get stuck in a rut sometimes with a job that provides no prospect of self-improvement or motivation but pays the bills adequately. Sunlighting is about bringing that much needed balance and variety to your work-life. Its also a way to pursue your personal aspirations and learn the things you’ve always wanted. To me…. Its perfect…. I don’t really like full-time work where you end up doing the same job year after year. I prefer to change roles and jobs and constantly learn new things. As long as I can make enough to keep me well, I intend to spend the rest of my time being an entrepreneur, a freelance person, learning and enjoying life with my loved ones. The option of staying home and being a housewife isn’t really a choice for a lot of people. Work isn’t an option. Some people have to do it.

Kheyr, I’m not skilled in the art of interspersing my posts with Islamic phrases… …… but ….. Subxanallah  Are you seeing things? Or do you care to tell us what your underlying 'theme' is?

Funny, thats exactly what Zephyrine did in the last two days. Now, I hear she is on a cornflake diet. My boss is a man... and I dont explain why I'm sick. I just call in the morning and say I've aches. Just this morning, I had aches and got in at mid-day... p.s. All true

Is there a woman out there who doesn't have a fully-fledged fantasy of what they'd do for a living in a parallel life? Handbag designer? Perfumier? Pilates teacher? The kind of job that allows you to work on your own terms and fulfil your creative side. Ah, but then there's the small matter of the mortgage. The safe option would be to stick with a job that pays the bills, and, indeed, many of us do. But now, more women are finding that work doesn't have to mean committing to just one path. Say hello to what career experts are calling 'sunlighting' - the legal cousin to moonlighting. It means cutting down the hours you put into your main job, so you can do a second, more interesting one. 'Sunlighting is a different form of work-life balance and a new way of thinking about flexible working,' explains Dr Christina Evans of the University of Roehampton. 'It's not just about balancing work and family life, it's about getting a balance in terms of different work strands.' It's a trend that's transforming the working culture of Britain. Figures from the Office of National Statistics show that between 1984 and 2001 there was a 68 per cent increase in the number of people holding down second jobs. And the research showed these people were more likely to be women. While some of these figures account for women doing two jobs to make ends meet, there's also a growing number of professional women actively seeking out a second career even if it sometimes means a cut in salary. Why are we sunlighting? Occupational psychologist Dr Sandi Mann says it's a work pattern that suits women because of our differing work expectations. 'Women tend not to define themselves through work as much as men do. We're also better at multi-tasking, so can switch from role to role more easily.' Working part-time after a baby is often the catalyst. 'Once you've tasted that freedom of working part-time or from home, it's hard to give up,' she explains. 'So when the children are older and women can return to their careers full-time, many don't. They start another, more fulfilling job instead, as well as their part-time work.' Source Is this the way ahead ladies?

I'm not predicting doom.. but didnt the tsunami teach these people anything? I wouldnt feel too safe sleeping in a house, built on water and of what looks like stilts . -
I think they call it research when you plagiarise the work of many. Its not only acceptable, but encouraged. Provided you can string them all together effortlessly and draw your own conclusions. Of course, referencing the work makes it ‘not plagiarised’. There is no point re-inventing the wheel, so one has to obviously use and build on existing framework. As for bad habits, they are more acquired than intrinsic. Collective mentality is the downfall of every great or would have been great person or for that matter society. Individuality (as Muslims and Somalis) is seen in a negative light and thought to be contrary to our culture and way of life. So the bad habits NGONGE mentioned is part and parcel of ‘our way of life’ and would never get extricated anytime soon. p.s. Welcome back NG. The place has been awfully dry without ur 'pearls of wisdom'

Sheh, its funny you brought this to our attention. I just my Health & Safety test for this year at work. Its of vital importance that people who work with computers adapt appropriate postures. Like Zeph, I tend to slouch and slide down my seat all morning. Alhamdulilah, this has caused me no pains so far but thats not to say it wont. However, I have been feelings like my fingers are tired and stiff at times (hopefully, not a case of repetitive stress injury or typing injury) and have taken steps to improve my posture and typing style since. Since Farxan has shown the proper posture, let me just add that keyboards are best kept levelled (not with the raised handles) and your palms shouldnt touch the keyboard. Also, use a pedestal/foot-rest for your feet. The breaks are really important!

Thanks alot. *very pleased*

Haddad...thats exactly the window I'm talking about... how do I get to it? Where is it located? Excuse my overwhelming ignorance and reluctance to search. AF, by who? you? Are you even computer literate?

Thanks Haddad. Is there someway/option that lets me switch/create different profiles in firefox?
-
I’ve been using Mozilla Firefox for some months now. Love the look and simplicity and no pop-ups. Last night, I tried to click on a new window and got some option about profiles. I chose the default profile and it said 'in use'. I created another one and it has been set to default since. Now all my bookmarked pages are in the previous profile and I’ve been perusing the options on the browser to see how I could set it back. Anyone know where this option is? I really need my bookmarked list. Badly.

here is a link for you Orgilaqe. Click on the 1st link. Even with all the money in the world...we are bound by cultural ties.

Do ‘Cadaan’ people have more fun? My co-workers are always going on mini-breaks and mini-holidays and I feel so left out. I cant remember the last time I had a decent holiday… actually… it was 2002…dubai. Somali people, generally lack the spirit of adventure…actually, all ‘madow’ people do. If there isn’t a relative waiting at the airport, its not a deserving visit to most. Where was the last great adventure your guys went on(if any)? Orgi, Dubai has superb private schools. American, british, Indian, Pakistanis, Arabic schools where english is just as emphasized etc etc. You'd be spoilt for choice. Having been educated in one... I think the quality is far better than here. G'luck.
