  1. Sayid, I thought that bit was hilarious and well deserved!
  2. I'm just pathetic when it comes to finishing books lately, always giving up halfway. If the story doesnt grip me by the throat by page 10, I'm gone... terrible habit. This was the fate of that Somali novel (Roge), 'The Joke' and Nadifa's book (although I reached page 40 or something on this book at least) . Now that you were balling your eyes out on the train Ibtisam, I'm going to pick up Nadifa's book again... and leave my other book halfway (its called 'the 4-hour work week' and talks about how to free yourself from the 9-5 shackles using technology and globalisation - pretty cool book and an ex-boss, now a self-employed man who works half the year and enjoys himself the rest of the year recommended it).
  3. @Ibtisam, typical of you to try and score a sneaky goal. Khayr, maxaad tidhi?
  4. ^Could it be because af soomaali sidaasaad ugu hadasha? Greetings trollers! Where is Cara, I owe her a major apology, long time coming!
  5. Oh - gotcha. Thanks. Emiratisation/Qatarization/Saudization/etc is not 'officially' targetted at specific group of workers/citizens. Obviously the natives have a preference for certain jobs more than others. I dont see Arab boys soiling their white dhishdhashas willingly and getting down and dirty to do manual labour anytime soon.
  6. Adam and Ibti are married and have reversed roles - he is having their baby. There is no other explanation!
  7. Ibtisam - not sure what the link between Leviev and UAE is about, got sources? But just wanted to comment on the Emeratization program. Just like the Omanisation program and many such programs across the gulf, they are aimed at making the local populate skilled and filling jobs with 'wadanis'- its not aimed at uprooting Palestinians or any specific group out of jobs. I think you blv Palestinians shouldnt be sent back home because they dont have a home? Alot of people would fall into that category in that case (Somalis included) and its harsh and I dont personally agree with it but its the law of the land and people went there knowing full well this could happen.
  8. Originally posted by NGONGE: By the way, the author is a very pretty and nice young lady. Did you not like her, Serenity? Strange question to be asking a girl, doncha think? I thought she handled herself and the Q&A very well. And yes, I liked her - probably in a different way than u did ! She was nice and relatable.
  9. ^He went to her book launch and chatted with the author and now he feels obligated to be all nice! It must have been a nice chat because I noticed he was gesticulating alot (perhaps he was narrating how his dad came from a similar background and that the book might as well have been his story? ).
  10. I dont know which page I'm on but boy Jama is enroute to Omhajer. So far, I find it a little too verbose and descriptive, but otherwise good read all round

Personally I find it intriguing and always want to know how they come to their position.
  18. Speaking of stoning, I watched this harrowing true story film that was so graphic it genuinely traumatized me. http://www.thestoning.com/ When Islam is misused and abused, its fatal.
  19. 40 is pretty young, why would she look bad? *waves at the trolls* I'm working from home in the pretext of studying for an exam but I just cannot motivate myself... this sucks!
  20. These Oscar nominations are a joke. I saw 'A Serious Man' and it was the most incredibly mind-numbing film I've ever had to endure in a cinema. I dont even remember what it was about! Then there is the over-hyped and sorely predictable Avatar. Animations! schenimations!, it didnt do it for me at all. Up in the air - again, another wasted day at the cinema. Wouldnt mind seeing it at home but definitely not Oscar worthy. An education is the only film I enjoyed. Not spectacular but a well written script. Overall, mostly mediocre films in most categories. Planning to see the prophet soon - I hope its worth the time.
  21. Is this one of the two Samatars from my tol Xiin? When did he become an Ethiopian bootlicker?
  22. Sayid, I like to think of it as my Arabic being rusty and not upto scratch
