Pompeo’s Message to Saudis? Enough Is Enough: Stop Qatar Blockade
Old_Observer replied to maakhiri1's topic in Politics
In all seriousness America would have liked this Bedew wrestling to continue, but is now becoming problem with what America wants to do with Iran. Pompeo also will be very anti-Erdogan and wants Qatar return to "normal". The visit to Eritrea and Djibouti says a lot about what America wants to do around here. Otherwise Yemen would have been priority, but Yemen for propaganda or truth is considered as part of anti Iran fight. -
First you are missing the fact that UAE case affects Ethiopia more than you realize. Djibouti, Djibouti, Djibouti Second you will not find any Ethiopian worth his salt that will take pleasure from Somalia situation. The only thing Ethiopians want is that all your affairs done peacefully with Somaliland or any other region. Its good for you to do it peacefully and next it affects us what ever you do with Somaliland. You know it yourself, you are comparing apples and oranges. Somaliland compares with Eritrea until 1993, the referendum. BTW Iley can go anywhere even Egypt and invite companies. He does it all the time. As for military base defence is not his business. Somaliland is fighting for independence SNNP is fighting for autonomy. Be fair to yourself.

Cairo follows Somali developments with concern
Old_Observer replied to Che -Guevara's topic in Politics
Egypt a country with no dignity, self respect at all. Now Egypt has even fallen down further. She is now of the Bedew Gulf, before it was of America. Now Egypt gets its orders from Washington translated to Arabic in UAE and Riyad. "Egypt is afraid that Turkey and Qatar’s presence in the Horn of Africa will ease the movement of terrorists in the region." If this was said about any other country would have been funniest joke, but unfortunately is being said close to home. Egyptians can only kick when someone is down on hard times, never when standing. -
Even warlords were confused about Ethiopia in 1991. Imagine Gen. Morgan calling for help to Ethiopia. The poor Somali victimized in Xabeshi colonialism is gone. That Ethiopia is gone, all its foundation broken and thrown away. The Somali is a player. You and I may not agree the level, but the Somali is not the poor victim seen from Mogadishu hill. He is even capable of helping other Somalis. That is big change and very confusing to Somali politicians from the republic.

galbeedi, What your secret of how fast you go from global regional thinking to village politics? Can you connect these things? 1. Next highest American diplomat spent 6 days in Eritrea, Djibouti and Ethiopia 2. UAE in Somalia maybe hot issue, but in Djibouti its real, but not shouting match just silent knifings 3. At this specific time Ghelleh needs Ethiopia like 24 hours monitoring thus the two states bordering him especially the Afar since common border with Eritrea and Djibouti. Think big sometimes. The Jawar coffee shop gossip has limits among big men. I have no wish or interest in belittling people of Shinnile, but what is Shinnile when US DOD is issuing warning to pilots that there is powerful laser systems in Djibouti threatening near chinese base. I do not know what Abiy's views on oil and gas are, but the gas or oil pipeline may also be an issue that concerns both presidents on the ground. Shinnile maybe in the way. Ghelleh is more pushing for this more than Illey/Seyum or past Ethiopian PMs. I did not even know then, but next PM of Ethiopia should visit Sudan, Djibouti, Somalia first was my schedule and is happening like clock work.

Our galbeedi is firing on all cylinders. Good to see you in that feisty mod. All power to you. caution: Somalia cannot live being defined by its enemy. It has to be defined by itself first. You have seen the result of focusing on Ethioia and when the known Ethiopia was gone was very difficult for Somalia to adjust to new Ethiopia. This UAE thing for both external and internal reasons needs to be put in perspective. Otherwise I have gone to level of hate by what these Bedew hipocrites said about Djibouti.

Isn't that amazing? Illey and Haji Siyum are there too. Somali and Afar kilil presidents

And before yesterday had long meeting with Al Bashir of Sudan. Everything according to plan. Next should be Mogadishu. I don't expect it to be announced not to burden the SFG with too much security expenses. Bravo Abiy GERD SUDAN DJIBOUTI SOMALIA Then everybody else.

I am afraid there is nothing in this article that remotely affects what is done. You need to understand that it is commercial and affecting only the federal state. No matter how much facebook noise there is, Somalia and UAE are still friends. Maybe less friends than with Qatar the latest favourite in Mogadishu (powers behind). The article you quoted is also not ratified, thus not in force even if violated. Every thing is being done to delay the ratification of the constitution again by Mogadishu (powers behind). The main thing is its commercial issue and nothing to do with constitution or foreign relations. UAE as a country has diplomatic relations with Somalia and is no restrictions on anyone to talk, do business etc by Somalia.

No my friend, far from it. Abdi Iley before he publicly spoke of the intermarriage between Somalis of different classes or jobs in the past, he discussed it with two groups of people: The elders. He asked the elders are these discriminated folks Somalis? They had no option but to say yes and confirm. Next he asked them is there a law written or unwritten that should prevent Somalis from intermixing? Will you support me if I took certain steps in combating this discrimination within Somalis? Here they separated. Some said is good idea you stick your neck we will support you. Some said its good idea, but I can only promise you I will never criticize you, but will never speak publicly supporting you. Religious leaders: Is there anything in Islam that would prevent intermarriage among same Ethnic, same language and all Moslems? They said No. Will you support me in encouraging Somalis to be tolerant to each others past prejudices? Most said yes even publicly speaking. You are right its about time, but is not common for a politician to have courage to do for first time publicly and to a degree very smoothly something that would make any average politician hide. As for Tigray they have similar other issues, but not to this degree. Since they come from Society which for most part is settled farmers they have been through this long time ago, but do not marry to iron workers for example, but intermarriage between Moslem and Christian is quite tolerated with them. When Al Turabi of Sudan stuck his name delaring that any peoples of the book can intermarry. There is nothing prohibiting it in any of the books, he was looked at as alien.

Apology for the regional aspect of my comment, but not for belittling the good news based on your frastration mostly based on the past. Believe it or not, my Amharic is not that good, but these things sound all the same in the languages I understand. The reason is the people are the same and have very close attitudes on these issues.
-
Not really. You see the shocked Somali was shocked by fellow Somali, but different class in the past and even to the present. The Shock of the Amhara was frm the place and name of Oromos in the past when he was growing up. The White protestant Anglo saxon is still highest group, but can see the issues you pointed for the long term. It will still take a century or more, before the Anglo Saxon joins the Franks or Portuguese.
-
This happens to all classes in human history, but to see in one generation such change is unique, usually these things take centuries. Examples of shock to individuals, but reflection of society. A Somali Nomad class being arrested by a woman from a hunter gatherer class. The shock on the face is sad but priceless An Amhara who lived 3 generations in Oromia, being arrested in Oromia and demanding that he be sopken in Amharic at an Oromia police station. sad but priceless. These two as soon as out of the prison, only dream and effort is bring down the system by any means. Angry, dispondent, negative and going back even on things they had accepted.

Its 19th century all over again and the Somali is in crosshairs of every moneyed braveheart. Actually gulf are safer than Somali since the world is still ocean/sea dependent for trade and many other activities including fishing and sea/ocean mining.
-
I like the idea, but not practical now. There is another method. Get money from both sides just like the Ethiopians do. They get money from Qatar now and get money from UAE. Of course they have government more established than Somalia, but its culture and if Farmaajo, Khyre, Speaker etc play it underground organized can even act and make these Arabs compete.

Until the 16-17 century the Nomad was among the highest class of all classes around the world. The banker class among the most despised is now most respected, most feared class. The Nomad is now a curiosity and of interest to those who think of surviving a nuclear war and the likes. The Nomad was completely mobile, his home, his wife, his children, his food everything was mobile. Sometimes his whole clan empire was mobile. The safest and sure way to survive even calamities where the farmer a much lower class than the Nomad was sitting duck to every braveheart. Then as population grew and grew, the Nomad started see risks and started submitting to some Ugas, Garaad, Sultan, Boqor..to protect his grazing lands. Then started the downfall. The Ugas or Garaad doesn't have to do any work, but gets a camel a year from every nomad. If he wanted to increase his wealth the Garaad simply took the next lands by cheating and false promises, aranged intermarriages, or failing all that simply war. From Russia to Somalia, the Nomad is simply lost trying to be nomad culture living in high rises (prisons of municipality rules for everything). There is no way the Nomad can fully be comfortable and continue the culture in the metropolitan way of life where everything is up side down and inside out. Imagine a Nomad who considers children as his insurance for old age and also gurantee of his continuity forced to accept LBGTPTGS... Imagine a nomad who considers humiliation to be told by someone other than family to do anything has to listen and obey Abdi Iley on where to live, what to do in life, send his children both male and female to school, having woman as minister or commander of armies/police...funny for us, but real shocking. Russia and to some degree Canada will sustain Nomads for longer, they have land and some protection, where as among the Somali and Ethiopia the Nomad is a disappearing class. The politics in Northern Somalia and Ethiopia is more of settled farmer led, but in many parts of Ethiopia and Somalia the Nomad still has influence.

First and fore most look at it from the positive angle as maakihri pointed out. Use addition before subtraction in your outlook. Add every succeess of the Somali people regardless of territory, country or kilil or any shindig. Countries come and go as sultanates came and went as boqors came and went, but through it all, if does not get catastrophic failure, the Somali people, with language and culture will continue. In order to continue must have power to defend, develop and if nothing else transfer to next generation what he inherited from previous. Every little thing whether it happens in Juba, Bossaso, Jigjiga, Qandela etc must be added. Don't make everything regional and subtract it from the people's success stories anywhere.

USA visit to Eritrea, Djibouti and Ethiopia
Old_Observer replied to Old_Observer's topic in Politics
Sudanese President Omar Bashir has accused the United States of trying to split his country into at least five separate independent states. WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - All parties involved in the recent outbreak of fighting in the Jebel Marra region of Darfur in Sudan must immediately end hostilities, US Department of State spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a statement. "We call on all sides — the GoS [Government of Sudan] forces, SLA/AW [Sudan Liberation Army-Abdul Wahid], and armed tribal groups — to immediately halt their provocative actions and violent responses," the statement said on Friday. ____________________________________________________________________________ Here we go again. WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - Withdrawing US troops from the Korean Peninsula would be discussed with allies if North Korea demanded it as part of reaching a peace agreement, US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said during a meeting with Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak at the Pentagon. "Well, that's part of the issues that we'll be discussing in the negotiations with our allies first and, of course, with North Korea," the release said on Friday. US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un are scheduled to meet in May or early June regarding the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. Both leaders will enter negotiations to permanently shut down the North Korea’s nuclear program. The United States had engaged in a maximum pressure campaign against North Korea and led the international community to impose multiple rounds of sanctions over Pyongyang’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs. Earlier on Friday, Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in held a summit at the Demilitarized Zone where they signed the Panmunjom Declaration for Peace, Prosperity and Unification on the Korean Peninsula. The document commits the two countries to a nuclear-free peninsula and talks to bring a formal end to the Korean War. The situation on the Korean peninsula escalated in the past two years due to North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile tests, which led to heightened tensions between Washington and Pyongyang.

The US military warned Friday that pilots near Djibouti airspace should exercise “extreme caution,” as high-powered lasers are reportedly emanating from near China’s naval base there. "There have been multiple lazing events involving a high powered laser in the vicinity of N1135.70 EO4303.14," US aviation safety officials said in a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM). IHS Jane's said the coordinates listed in the NOTAM point to a location 750 meters from the People's Liberation Army Navy base in Djibouti. © AFP 2018 / SOE THAN WIN Dragon Spreading Its Wings: Why China's First Overseas Military Base in Djibouti is 'Only the Beginning' "Use extreme caution when transiting near this area," the warning stressed. The Federal Aviation Administration called the laser activity "unauthorized." Djibouti is strategically located on the Horn of Africa. The US military also maintains a base in the small country, at Camp Lemonnier. Tokyo and Rome both have a base in Djibouti as well, and France hosts Spanish and German troops at its own base there. The Chinese navy's base in Djibouti is Beijing's first foreign military base.

Sierra Leone’s police officers deployed in Jubbaland
Old_Observer replied to Deeq A.'s topic in Politics
This is in Sudan in case you did not notice. -
Yunis, Just out of interest, what is the constituional article, code of law these persons broke or violated that one can accuse them for treason?
-
MMA, Why not give it a chance? Currently there is no federalism in Somalia. There cannot be federalism if: 1. The constituent parts are not defined (provinces, ethnic, states etc) 2. The relatinship between constituent parts and the constituent parts to the union are not defined There is never a country that is federal without an agreed, approved and defined constitution. The current system is the cart before the horse. Every group interpreting it in own way and who ever has better foreign friends like Qatar on one side can mae the others look like they are not respecting the country against UAE.
