  6. Thinking of who to cheer for, an interesting website based on gdp, aid and defense spending, gdp, life expextancy etc,,, click here Ghana 'worthiest World Cup team' Ghana is the worthiest team to support at the World Cup according to a website ranking nations on national ethics and "global citizenship" criteria. The World Development Movement says its table highlights global poverty and the inequality of nations at the World Cup. Fans can find out which are the best aid givers, the most indebted or the least corrupt and cheer them on. Sweden and Tunisia join Ghana near the top of the list. The USA, Saudi Arabia and Australia are at the bottom. Benedict Southworth is director of the WDM - part of the Make Poverty History campaign. She said: "Whoshouldicheerfor.com is a fun and interesting way to think about a serious issue, that of global poverty and inequality between the nations competing in the World Cup. "When their favourite team isn't playing many people will want to shout for a country that has the odds stacked against them. "Some of the poorest countries in the world are playing in Germany, let's give them some support." WDM's World Cup supportability rankings were determined by averaging each country's position across 10 criteria. They were: Life expectancy, national income per person, military spending, aid spending, carbon emissions, income inequality, health spending, external debt, corruption and the number of companies among world's largest 500 multinationals.

  8. lol, what a load of cr*p! Lets hope for peace people, peace - a word seldomly used in this forum Qudhac, i dont really think Riyale is the best man for the job of influencing others with regard to Sl's cause. The hate for anything SL never ceases to amaze me
  9. I have given up on the WC, may the best team win!
  10. ^^can the Mods/Admin deleat the above statement? But anyway, no one is denying the closed cinemas. It is simple, if you show X-rated moves than your cinema will be closed for good wheather you show football or not. So to twist the story by making it look like if Maxkamadaha don't want people to watch football is outrageous. Sheikh Sharif also denied this accusation when he was asked this question last night on the BBC. So guyz you are holding the stick on the wrong end. I'm afriad we have become the equivalent of the misinformed westerners, jump on the bandwagon types without much thought or 'filtering' of the regular news. we accept things at face value
  11. To the Aussies, enjoy it while it lasts  Red Sea, not a football (not soccer) fan?
  12. Have you ever seen a dumber performance by an African team. Forget Ghana i will be against them from now on,,,,
  13. I managed to catch the last set but Fededrer made too many mistakes in the final few games and Nadal is still the main man in Paris.
  14. The Cost lost due to lack of finishing. They could have won that game. Two wins vs the Dutch and Serbia should see them through. Ghana 2-Italia 2
  15. Should be a cracker, Federer recently lost to Nadal so its payback time for him. But i always root for the underdog, but who is the underdog here?
  16. ^^you are right, England looked good in the first half but got tired in the end. That Crouch played well but Owen needs a goal. Looking forward to the game tonight, starting at 11pm with work 2mrw but its the WC
  17. The final we have been waiting for with RF vs RN. Nadal unbeaten on clay for years while Federer will want that first French title which currently belongs to Nadal. Here

  21. World Cup Widows ready to fight By Daniel Bardsley, Staff Reporter Dubai: Thousands of men will spend happy hours in front of the television during the World Cup but what about their wives? Across the UAE, many World Cup Widows as they have been dubbed, will be battling to stay sane as their football-mad spouses sit glued to the sets. Some will be banished to the kitchen or the garden as the small screen takes over their living room with cries of "offside", "goal" and "free kick". For others, the house will seem all too empty as they endure evenings home alone while their husbands meet with pals in hotel bars to catch the action. Jackie Ratcliffe, from Scotland, is expecting the house to empty soon when her husband Gordon leaves most evenings to watch the world's top footballers battle for honours. "He will be watching the games in various places around town. Also my five-year-old son Findley is a big football fan so he'll see some games too. My daughter Hannah and I will have a really girly time when they're off to watch the football," she said laughing. Carole Prior, a British housewife, will have plenty of time to herself her husband Alan and 13-year-old son Scott are jetting off to Germany to watch England play. "I'm being deserted," she joked. "They watch football, they play football and they talk about football ... I'm more of a tennis fan so when they're away I'll be free to watch the French Open," she said. Dubai resident Lilo Gallacher, from Germany, who is married to John from England, has decided there is only one way to avoid becoming a World Cup Widow: "For three-and-a-half years out of four I don't care about football at all ... But for the World Cup, I have decided to stay at home and watch the games with him." GN
  22. SB A forced marriage without the consent of the woman is illegal in Islam the same as a wedding without the blessing of the parents/guardians. As per the sunnah So what say you good SB? Do you agree?
  23. Forced marriage law 'not needed' The Home Office has decided a specific law to ban forced marriages in the UK is not needed. Ministers had asked groups and individuals if there should be a law criminalising the act of forcing someone into marriage. Most thought the disadvantages of a new law would outweigh the advantages, and possibly drive the practice of forced marriages underground. The Home Office will put forward three recommendations to stop the practice. These included better training for those who work in this field and "engaging more with communities". 'No justification' It also called for an increase in the work done with statutory agencies in sharing best practice and implementing guidelines. The third recommendation was to ensure that existing legislation was fully implemented, including making better use of civil remedies and the family courts. Home Office minister Baroness Scotland said: "Forced marriage is an abuse of human rights and a form of domestic violence which cannot be justified on religious or cultural grounds. "This consultation has been very useful in stimulating debate and generating recommendations from those with expertise in the field. "In the future, we will continue to provide information and assistance both to potential victims and to concerned professionals who are confronted by this abuse." At present, anyone found guilty of forcing someone into marriage can be prosecuted for kidnap, false imprisonment or rape. About 300 forced marriages are reported to the authorities every year - often involving people from Britain's South Asian community. In most cases young women are pressured into marrying, but at least 15% involve coercion of men. 'Stereotyping' The Southall Black Sisters, a group which campaigns against domestic violence, says it believes that young people will not report their parents for fear of criminalising them. Pragna Patel, chair of the group, told Radio 4 that existing laws were sufficient. "We don't see the need for criminalisation of forced marriage, which is yet another way of stereotyping and criminalising entire communities at a time when there is heightened racism in this country." The government has made it clear that it is not attacking the idea of arranged marriages - a popular practice in South Asian communities - when both bride and groom give their consent. Ministers have said that they recognise the problem is not exclusively South Asian. Baroness Scotland said people with links to the Middle East, the Balkans and Africa were also affected. bbc.co.uk
  24. Cameron attacks Radio 1's hip-hop BBC Radio 1 has been accused of encouraging knife and gun crime by Conservative leader David Cameron. Mr Cameron singled out the station's Saturday night schedules which feature DJ Tim Westwood's hip-hop show. Radio 1 strongly denied Mr Cameron's accusation, saying it took its responsibilities "very seriously" and followed strict producer guidelines. It said hip-hop was a "vibrant" genre which sometimes reflected the "harsher realities of people's lives". The Conservative leader made his comments on Tuesday evening at a British Society of Magazine Editors event. "I would say to Radio 1, do you realise that some of the stuff you play on Saturday nights encourages people to carry guns and knives?", said Mr Cameron. 'Courage' He was responding to a question from June Walton, the editor of Good Housekeeping, about how the Conservatives would tackle the growing problem of knife crime. Mr Cameron said his remarks were an example of him having "the courage to speak up when you see something that is wrong" despite the fact that "you will get a lot of bricks thrown at you". Mr Cameron's comments about knife crime follow a string of high profile cases in recent weeks. A spokesman for BBC Radio 1 said: "Radio 1 strongly refutes any suggestion that the station condones or encourages knife or gun culture. "The station takes its responsibilities very seriously and has strict producer guidelines that govern all of the output. "Hip-hop is a huge international genre with a vibrant UK scene and that music reflects the sometimes harsher realities of people's lives and cultures." 'Apalling' lyrics Only five months ago the Tory leader appeared on Radio 1, in what was widely seen as a bid to demonstrate his youth credentials. Interviewed by presenters Colin Murray and Edith Bowman, he said he was a fan of The Smiths, Radiohead and Pulp, and selected Cheryl Tweedy when asked which of the Girls Aloud group he thought most attractive. The Tory leader is not the first politician to link song lyrics to violent crime. In 2003, then home secretary David Blunkett dubbed so-called gangster rap lyrics "appalling" and vowed to speak to music producers and community leaders in a bid to curb them. And former culture minister Kim Howells attacked some rap artists for creating a culture "where killing is almost a fashion accessory". In July 1999, clergyman's son Tim Westwood was himself injured in a drive-by shooting in south London. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/5055724.stm
  25. Its not exactly difficult to listen in on the khutba, with all the hi-tech James Bond gizmos at their disposal they could have had a nice day in the park listening in, very strange developments though
