  3. 4) UN SECURITY COUNCIL- whose security? Whose council? They should instead call it the state department’s office of war! This caught my attention sxb. The rest (globalization and its fracas) is pretty much common. But critical security studies theorists (Ken Booth) asks precisely the questions you asked. The UN's sec. council articles of human security tends to overlap with Booth's advocacy for 'Human-centric' rather than 'state-centric' security study. If he succeeds in his debates, soon we might start to view all issues (global poverty, economic globalization..and so on) through security's lens. be back
  4. [13]: We do not deem it correct to revolt against the Muslim rulers as long as they are Muslims, nor do we feel that revolutions bring about reconciliation. Rather, they corrupt the community. As for the rulers of Aden, then we feel that fighting them is obligatory, until they repent from heresy, Socialism and calling people to the worship of Lenin and Marx and other than these two from those who professed disbelief. Hmmm, the more I read or hear about this group, the more they come across as 'the vangaurd of thievery and tyrany. Time to put a stop to them.

  8. San Diego Based Message Board Is Cause for Mass Murder Arguments on Internet message boards are nothing new, and often are a central component. But in San Diego, California an argument turned deadly on 25 May 2005, resulting in two murders, and two other attempted homicides. "We've always had a lot of arguments and disputes on this board, but nothing like this, and I really don't think anyone saw it coming," said Radley Pingay, administrator of pirate969.org, in an email response. "Bruce was always a little hostile, but so many people are like that online, it's hard to tell what's real and what's just shenanigans." Bruce is not only the username of the suspect in the double homicide, but is also his first name. The online argument started in a thread ( LINK ) discussing a local band promoter. Bruce Pastuer, now wanted on two counts of homicide and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, was one of the participants in the discussion. Victim's mother being consoled by police Apparently two other board members and Pastuer exchanged insults, at which point Pastuer drove to the home of the two victims at approximately 3:00PM, and shot them both with a borrowed 12 gauge shotgun. The police have not recovered the weapon, and the names of the two victims have not been released pending notification of their relatives. In the course of the shooting, two neighbors came to investigate, and Pastuer reportedly fired at them as well. His location is unknown, and anyone with information is requested to contact the San Diego Police Department (link). Source: BBC
  9. The old man stopped listening to music during his kcaan-diid era. They taunted him with nationalistic songs , the like of it ..quite patronizing. 'Anigu markuu wadanka xasilo ayaan miyuusic dhageysan doonaa' . Fair enough.
  10. ^^^ Thank you for siding with Baashi . It helps . Baashi haduu xaal i saaran yahay, about the terming, gather the elders . I will be back for you.
  11. Originally by NGONGE: However, I do agree with the title of the book, The Trouble With Islam! There is a problem with Islam, a huge and very complicated problem too. There is no problem with Islam, but with the people. Don't follow the woman's logic Ngonge.
  12. If we keep deleting such articles and refuse to discuss them because they go against the ‘rules’ of the site; if other Muslim sites refuse to acknowledge the existence of such hogwash because it contains sacrilege and blasphemy, who exactly is going to reply to such people? NGONGE, as a Muslim I ask, what right do they have to be recognized, even as ‘hogwash’? As Somalis say af-caaytama ninkiisuu ku yaal . These blasphemous people are a lowly kind upon whom we shouldn’t waste time and effort. Blasphemy has no replies sxb, but if you or any other person feels that blasphemy deserves a reply then why not do so? Write in the national newspapers and televisions you mentioned, but don’t force it on those sites that don’t accept blasphemy or the acknowledgement of misguided individuals. It is that simple. With all due respect saaxib, why do we act as if we’re all tucked away safely back home in Somalia or in a predominantly Muslim country, where we’re shielded and protected from hearing any such blasphemous opinions? Now you ask me if I think we're tucked away shielded from such blasphemy as if we are in a Muslim land. To this I say, we may not be in Muslim lands or back home, but since blasphemy and sin is done before our eyes daily, the (SOL forum and other Muslim sites) have made a conscious decision to create an enclave in which our eyes and minds can temporarily rest from the blasphemy you just posted. This is also the reason why many Muslims eagerly await and welcome winters rather than summers when women are covered up due to the cold. There is no intention to avoid discussing matters such as the ones that woman brings forth, but it is an attempt to do what our faith commands us: "If anyone of you sees something objectionable, he should change it with his hand, but if he cannot, he should change it with his tongue, and if he cannot he should do it in his heart, that being the weakest form of faith." Muslim PS: NGONGE As I said before if this woman raises any question worth discussing then present it in a debatable form. That is not much to ask. This shows were are not trying to avoid discussing matters, and that we wish to debate in a civilized manner in which blasphemy has no place. Your topic still remains based on the advocacy for blasphemy and those ‘faith keepers’ who avoid it. If you want to discuss ‘violence in Muslim demonstration’ which this woman raised, then I am sure you will get a good debate.
  13. NGONGE if you honestly want the 'valid' questions (or points) she raises to be discussed, then why don't you do us the service of disecting such non-blasphemous questions and post them, in debatable form? But if you post blasphemous articles, without atleast editing them, no matter who the author is, they are likely to be deleted, as this goes contrary to the rules of the site. Blasphemy is not freedom of expression, and Irshad Manji is wellknown to use blasphemy to gain attention to her writings. It is necessary to have that in mind. PS: I am sure that if your interests are pragmatic discusions, they would be dealt with satisfactorilly.

  17. Males zenewi faces ousting in the coming 15th May election. We await what happens in the elections. If Meles were to say, then he may rig the votes. If he is defeated, what implication will such defeat have on Somali politics? --------- ADDIS ABABA, May 8 (Reuters) - Hundreds of thousands of Ethiopians thronged the capital on Sunday to support the opposition, who go to the polls next week pledging to tackle poverty by freeing up the state-controlled economy. Thousands of young Ethiopians streamed into the central square in Addis Ababa, flashing the two fingered sign for victory -- the election symbol of the opposition Coalition for Unity and Democracy (CUD). Some supporters had taped banners saying "Victory over Dictatorship" and "Stand Up Speak Up" to their heads. The May 15 elections are widely regarded as a test of democracy in Ethiopia, where opposition candidates say their supporters have been harassed, beaten and detained in the runup to the polls. "I hope the government understands that the people are saying they want a change -- not just in Addis but everywhere," Hailu Shawel, CUD chairman told reporters before addressing the rally, which organisers said numbered two million, but witnesses put at hundreds of thousands. Five main opposition parties and coalitions have set aside their differences to form one of the strongest alliances yet to challenge Prime Minister Meles Zenawi's 14 years in power. Meles' Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) is widely expected to win a third five-year term in Africa's top coffee producer, but analysts say the ruling party's parliamentary majority may slip under pressure from opposition candidates. "What has the government given me? I have no job, no right to property and no freedom," said 42-year-old labourer Kassu Kemere. Police blocked the city centre, stopping opposition supporters from the suburbs from joining the rally, organisers said. Police officials were not immediately available for comment. ECONOMIC GROWTH Hailu said the CUD would focus on economic growth through political reforms and privatisation. Ethiopia is struggling to shake off the effects of centuries of feudalism followed by nearly two decades of Marxism under dictator Mengistu Haile Mariam, who was ousted in 1991. Officials say 46 percent of Ethiopia's 71 million people live below the poverty line, with many peasant farmers in the rural areas trapped in abject poverty. "Our plan is to free the economy, move to free enterprise, with land ownership by the people themselves," he said. Critics of the government say the EPRDF have failed to tackle poverty by reforming land policies blamed for chronic food shortages. They say the present system gives little incentive to the farmer to invest in land which is leased to him by the government. Hailu dismissed Meles' claim that the opposition was promoting divisive ideologies similar to those of the ethnic Hutu militias who butchered 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus in Rwanda's 1994 genocide. "The opposition has no military power and does not aspire to mass murder," he said. (Additional reporting by Tsegaye Tadesse) --Source: EthioMedia

  20. ^^^ Thank you very much Discreet. I hope that would help my good friend understand what I am ranting about . Baashi, the 'assent' is given by the individual, to his own very self, in order to become a consentor to a high level of mental beingness, of which 'animalistic' somaliness hasn't yet reached. And Baashi lol I am no social scientist , but working towards politics future . Ameenah, sister thank you for your contribution. I think brother Baashi thought you were generalising, just as he thought my reference to our current identity as 'animalistic' was unacceptable. But as I undersrand it, my friend Baashi is carrying on that defensive shield that holds at bay attacks at Somaliness . Though the fact is that, we're not at all attacking, because we (though Baashi seems more somali than us ) are only trying to narrow the focus of discusion in order to get coherent subject to concentrate on. PS: Discreet, thank you for the link of 'The Wave'. I have read the few sample pages and it seems very interesting. The history teacher and his experimental Nazi drill that got out of hand. Thanks again.
  21. ^^^ lol The title speaks volumes. 'Consensualism'....not steering, not leaving, and not denying 'ethnic' somali identities, but only elevating individuals through consent. Moreover, to say solve cultural problems with culture itself, is khalad, khalad ku sax . No hope there. And to say, there are 'other' factors that are external and internal, is to deflect and blur 'ANY' focuss a social scientist may wish to place upon the root cause of problems. PS: Again, lets talk about individuals not their faulty interactions only. Faults are not inherent in the culture, but they are induced by the faulty charactor of the individuals that create it.
  22. ^^^^ Baashi sxb, you are still speaking of 'biological' identities and the cultures that are formed as a result of their interactions. I called these biological identities 'animalistic', for the simple fact that they are reliant on animalistic reproductions. The way a mother feeds her child will, over the time, become known as a 'tradition', while at the same time, a father treatment of his kids may be called 'culture'. There is nothing magical about the so-called 'values' and 'cultures' of ours. So far, what we call ours (our culture, our traditional values) is nothing more than those animalistic tendencies I have spoken of . If we were plants, then I would've used the term 'plantist' to describe our identity. However, once we start the involvement of consent and reason in our interactions, only then will an interaction be non-animalistic. The other thing which you and raula seem to talk about is collectiveness of cultures and the whole lot, but I am not. My interests are with the self of the individual and its elevation to a higher level. The shallowness of talking about culture or values is that such talk does not focus on a rigid subject, rather it focuses on vague things such as 'society', and thus blindly keeps old fallacies alive. It is for that reason that I advocate for individual consent. Atleast the individual is a rigid subject to which changes and elevations could be directed. Only after concentrating on the consent of the individual can the talk of 'society' be near valid. PS: We do we have to refuse to question what our individualness is made up off? What is the big secret behind being over protective about of our own selves? Who benefits from these over-protections?
  23. ^^^ thats' what has become of you lately? Insults as last resort? Carry on 'patriot' .
