  1. This thread seems so old especially considering the events of the last few days. Kismayo has overshadowed it and the president seems to be licking his wounds.
  2. Well, just few days ago, Mr. Xiinfaniin's topic "The Law of Karma in Kismaayo", he brought to our attention the looming tension over Kismaayo. Here are his exact words: Xiin: What happens when disgruntled poor militiamen with no logistical support and without adequate armament decide to rule a strategic city, a prestigious one at that, like Kismayo? The plan is ridiculously simple: go to the other side, and without slightest strategy or a workable political plan, enter a military and political deal to share the city’s rule and milk it for eternity! But as we all know that kind of thinking is very primitive and can hardly be sustained. Flawed is its logical foundation: the interests of the hastily formed alliance would last forever. Warlord Barre is finding out the hard way not only of how broken his original premise was but also how the law of Karma (figuratively of course) works. And boy, look how the chickens have come home to roost! One reaps what he sows, as the clichés goes, and the increase of political variables in the Kismayo equation shouldn’t surprise warlord Barre’s political entourage! The story of Kismayo is quite fascinating one, or at least I find it so. I also find Indhacadde’s argument quite valid: we brought Barre to the thrown he now holds and thusly he should value our input. That’s not asking much, you might think, given the truthfulness of the said argument. What’s not adding up, in my opinion, is Barre’s vacillation. You stay with your current coalition and enjoy momentarily the rule of that coastal city. Which means you adhere to the conditions of the coalition’s original arrangement. Someone needs to whisper that deep in to Barre’s ears---if he has ears to hear (pardon the Christian phrase). Or else forget about Kismayo, compose a mournful eulogy of your perceived glory days in it, and peacefully sail to your fertile Gedo! This, as harsh as it may sound, is the literal meaning of the southern rule. ^That’s a logically sound analysis provided you agree with my premise that Indhacadde and co propelled Barre and his boys to rule Kismayo in the first place. What about the Courts and their ambition for Kismayo? The thinking goes that Barre is the DM in the current TFG and has shrewdly maneuvered to hype his strategic significance to the TFG. The TFG seems to have bought that and wants to give what he wants--- basically legitimize his rule and give a façade of regional governance. That’s what Barre calls Jubaland! A noble idea, you might say, but a one that lacks all the ingredients of success. Now men, like Indhacadde and co, who invested both blood and treasure in holding this strategic city, see nothing in this venture. The joint Barre and old man's project for Kismayo, that is. Furthermore, the fact that Barre is the DM and the possibility of AU troops docking to Kismayo harbor gives a certain political urgency for the Courts to intervene and make sure Kismayo does not slip from their sphere of influence. That’s where Indhacadde comes in and becomes quite useful for the Courts perceived interest: Kismayo not falling in to Baidoba’s column. We are living interesting times indeed. And if I were to hazard a guess, in the final analysis, Barre and Indhacadde will reach a deal and arrive a compromised solution that serves Courts interest. Barre will be reminded what he really is---a place holder, a smart one at that I must admit. What you say, , minus HornAfrique that is ! Afterall, Kismayo didn't need a complicated compromise, it easily got captured by the UIC. Just how and what happened in Kismayo is indeed puzzling, in that no blood was spilt in Kismayo's Soil. I was extremely uneasy of what is to become of Kismaayo were there to be a battle between Bare Hiraale and the Courts. Alxamdullilaah, this is didn't happen. All credit goes to Barre Hiraale for recognizing the best option our of war. Now that Barre Hiraale is out of the picture, there seem to be an issue with the residents of Kismayo. A day after the Courts took over the city, there has been violent demostrations and unrest caused by the residents. This unrest raises the question: can the Courts' rule of Kismayo be sustained? Will the presense of Turki not raise tensions between Kismayo residents of Af-madow, Gedo, or Puntland origin? Also, where does this put the TFG in Baidoa? Even more importantly, what would Ethiopia do in the coming months and what happens to IGADSOM since their posts of entry (Libooyo-dhoobleey and Kismaayo) are impossible to access? The UIC has over the last few days admitted having meeting with the US and that news has inturn infuriated the TFG's C/Yussuf. It seems the TFG's former name-calling of the UIC has seazed to work- even after the capture of Kismayo, the PM Ali Gheedi went on the rhetoric that the UIC is a spreading terror network- but all these cried of the TFG seem to be falling on the international community's deaf eyes. What next for the TFG, dessolution?

  4. ^^ I agree. It is simple. We only get what we ask for. Plus, sometimes the fellow might ask the girl to marry him, that is good -no problem. But other times, he might not have the guts or courage to ask a girl if he can marry her. So let the girl do it. To hell with what is unmanly or unwomanly. Xoogsade: If the guy doesn't ask you to marry him and he knows you very well, probably he isn't interested, so don't bother asking. Assuming that applies to a percentage of men, now let us assume this too: may be he is scared sh!tless?
  5. ^^^ Che check this out... "Boosaaso, Hargeysa, Burco, Gaalkacyo iyo Baydhabo waxay dhex jiifaan webi soo socda" ayuu yiri Sh. Xasan Turki oo ula jeeday in Maxaakiimta ay tegayaan goobahaasi.- Not my words, but the courts' words. So when I spoke as I did yesterday, I wasn't just talking for the sake of it. Something is coming...we just have to be patient. [EDIT]About the AU's troops to Somalia, the estimated cost is $931m. How the AU gets that amount of money beats me. And if they get that amount, much awaits for these troops within Somalia.
  6. Originally posted by Che-Guevara: Saaxib Qabiil rules supreme at the end day. The internal issues would be difficult one for the courts atleast as it relates to Pland, Jubba/Gedo, and Somaliland. I don't see how the courts would extend their authority into these areas without confronting the current administrations or without resigning to the fact that they might have to share the stage with others. The externals do matter as well since Ethiopia and co mastered the art of exploiting Somalis along tribal lines. Che, Puntland as signs show has very serious internal conflicts coming to the surface. Cade is in LaasCaanood to solve an issue that has proved problematic-the issue here is the decleration of an Islamic Court in Laas-Caanood. His meetings with the Issimada and Cuqaasha reer-Laas-Caanood are to the effect. On another front, Cuqaasha reer Sanaag Barri have warned Cade Muse not to visit Badhan, owing to that fact that there are outstanding and unresolved issues concerning the failed Majiyahan project. As for Jubba, well today's news headlines contains the UIC's possible invassion of Kismaayo. That should've signaled something to you, if at least. As for reer-Gedo, the occupants of this region are known for their patriotic resistance to Ethiopian and since UIC is as fierce in their opposition to Ethiopia, I think there is a common denominator there. What this means is that except for Gedo, in other regions, there exist tensions that have the potential to result their fall. Last but not least, as far as Somaliland is concerned, I think, when other regions are pacified, you may be in for a big surprise. Contrary to the image Somaliland state portrays, there are sleeper agents within its framework-the very sleeper agents who declared an Islamic court in Laas-Caanood. UIC is more likely to find supporters in Somaliland that it would in all other regions combined.
  7. ^^ You could speak of external or internal difficulties that may be facing the UIC, however, according to current power distribution, these difficulties would disappear into the thin air. Eight-thousand or even eighteen-thousand African troops is really nothing. There once was over twenty three thousand more sophisticated troops in Mogadishu-if external troops would make any change. Plus the AU hasn't got a dime to support this mission. As for the internal difficulties the UIC may faces, they aren't worth worrying about that much. Those opposing the UIC seem to have their own internal conflicts that would see to their self-destruction.

  9. ^^^ I second that. Xiinfiniin: Islamic Courts is fait accompli, i say! Fait accompli, indeed! Today's dynamics of Somali Politics sure reminds me of the ancient Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta and Thucydides' Melian Dialogue between the Athenians and the Melians...where the Athenians give a superb justification for wanting to occupy the Melos Islands. The Athenian Generals (Cleodes and Tisias) believed that neutrality in any war isn't to the advantage of their imperialist desires, thus, must bring Melos under the control. In their dialgue with the Melians, Thucydides narrates: The Council of the Melians replied as follows : We see that you have come prepared to judge the argument yourselves, and the likely end of it all will be either war, if we prove that we are in the right, and so refuse to surrender, or else slavery. Atheneans : If you are going to spend the time in enumerating your suspicions about the future, or if you have met here for any other reason except to lood the facts in the face and on the basis of these facts to consider how you can save your city from destruction, there is no point in our going on with this discussion. If however, you wil do as we suggest, then we will speak on. Then we will on our side use no fine phrases saying, for example, that we have a right to our empire because we defeated the Persians, or that we have come against you now because of the injuries you have done us--a great mass of words that nobody would believe. And we ask you on your side not to imagine that you will influence us by saying that you, though a colony of Sparta, have not joined Sparta in the war, or that you have never done us any harm. Instead we recommend that you should try to get what is possible for you to get, taking into consideration what we both really do think; since you know as well as we do that, when these matters are discussed by practical people, the standard of justice depends on the equality of power to compel and that in fact the strong do what thay have the power to do and the weak accept what they have to accept. For the Melian oligarchs, this signalled a fait accompli. Fight or don't fight, the basic undisputable fact meant that the march of war against them was irreversable. Today, the Islamic Courts have set a president that is here to stay. Whether we like it or not, their success in Mogadishu is likely to be duplicated in other parts of Somalia. Whether local elders or authorities (or even overly dehumanized and clanist souls) object to the spread of the UIC or not, such resistance is futile . My advice to all other regions of Somalia is to prepare themselves for what is coming in the coming months. They would either accept the UIC as the single dominant power in the arena of Somali Politics or they would be made to accept it by other means. Time to build courts all over the country, and replace the TFG's so-called parliament to Baidoa's Islamic Court.

So this particular video could have been taped anywhere, by anyone, for any reason they so wish. If this video is what it says it is, then it shows an unacceptable behaviour. PS: I won't go as far as to claim that, the seclusion of one gender from the other's presence precipitates a desperate situation, in which grabbing body-parts becomes the past time of males, but I suppose such seclusion 'may have' the potential to highten the senses.
  17. Antonio Gramsci. The Modern Prince: Elements of Politics It really must be stressed that it is precisely the first elements, the most elementary things, which are the first to be forgotten. However, if they are repeated innumerable times, they become the pillars of politics and of any collective action whatsoever. The first element is that there really do exist rulers and ruled, leaders and led. The entire science and art of politics are based on this primordial, and (given certain general conditions)20 irreducible fact. The origins of this fact are a problem apart, which will have to be studied separately (at least one could and should study how to minimise the fact and eliminate it, by altering certain conditions which can be identified as operating in this sense), but the fact remains that there do exist rulers and ruled, leaders and led. Given this fact, it will have to be considered how one can lead most effectively (given certain ends); hence how the leaders may best be prepared (and it is more precisely in this that the first stage of the art and science of politics consists); and how, on the other hand, one can know the lines of least resistance, or the most rational lines along which to proceed if one wishes to secure the obedience of the led or ruled. In the formation of leaders, one premiss is fundamental: is it the intention that there should always be rulers and ruled, or is the objective to create the conditions in which this division is no longer necessary? In other words, is the initial premiss the perpetual division of the human race, or the belief that this division is only an historical fact, corresponding to certain conditions? Yet it must be clearly understood that the division between rulers and ruled – though in the last analysis it has its origin in a division between social groups – is in fact, things being as they are, also to be found within the group itself, even where it is a socially homogeneous one. In a certain sense, it may be said that this division is created by the division of labour, is merely a technical fact, and those who see everything in terms of "technique", "technical" necessity, etc., speculate on this coexistence of different causes in order to avoid the fundamental problem. Read the rest of it in Gramsci Archives . I was reading some of my old favourites and this article poped out. It has something to say about the Elements of Politics and actually enjoyed it very much. Sharing is caring..enjoy it
  18. ^^ Sxb, sorry to have given you the impression that I took it personal. I was speaking as I did because, with the new social research coming up about 'multiculturalism, it seems issues are going to get difficult for Muslims. It is so bad to be blasted on tabloid as being some sort of terrorists or digital ghetto dwellers but these things that are day in day out makes one wonder where things are going. With the talk of 'controlling', if that is the word to use, what Muslims watch has something more sinister behind it. So sxb, iga raalli noqo if I came across accusing.
  19. ^^^ Defeatist? Well, ain't that another simplification and assumption. I am in the UK right now, and considering the occurances of the last three weeks, I am well qualified to claim that the atmosphere has altogether changed for the worse. There is nothing defeatist about stating my observations. So, it is best if do not make sweeping generalizations about 'how' a defeatist attitude is creeping on Muslims. How you came to that conclusion, I don't know but what I know is that as with every thing generalized, it is a wrong conclusion.
  20. ThePoint, I think yours is oversimplication and over-reliance on assumption. It is not racists, immigrants or other disgrantled individuals who find faults in multiculturalism; it is the very people that advocated for it. Just google Sir Tevor's attack on multiculturalism or even kenan Malik's 'the problem with multiculturalism'. FYI, Sir Trevor is the head of the Commision for Racial Equality. Majority of the people may support multculturalism but as things are, and I am assuming you are not in the UK now, multiculturalism is under a strain. PS: UK 'was' considered decent but not anymore. If anything, everyday, more and more articles suggesting that the problem with 'extremism' lies with multiculturalism. These include academics and social commentators all alluding to the creation of mono-culturalism and iron-out foreign digital ghettos in the UK.
  21. ^^ I was just about to warn Umm of the potential interogation that may ensue such suggestions . Two months after sufficient recuperation , hmmm, good arrangement. Notes taken down for future references.
  22. ThePoint: And the UK is decent too. ThePoint, really? Is that what you think? Well, I guess you haven't been reading the tabloids in the UK. Multiculturalism is really coming across as failure in the area of London I reside. [Read]Near Forest Gate.

Or that they haven't been stationed in Gaalkacyo for the last two days? Second, isn't it really obvious that Cade's and Qaybdiid's militias are in preparation for a war to the south?
