As Reer Gedo is hard to watch Gedo region being so underdevoloped and not fully liberated yet from Alshabab and this whole Jubbaland crisis is taking away attention from what really matters in Gedo. Progress and development and these things will not come from Xamar or Kismayo but its up to us make our region better.  We should have a autonomous region with its own army, flag and constitution however its coming under the Somali  gov umbrella and when it comes to foreign issues Gedo state would allways back the central goverment unlike Madoobe who sided with UAE. Madoobe does not represent  me. I dont know if its possible for Gedo state to fit in the current federal constitution but you never know what will happen in the future.

Basic info about Gedo.

Gedo Region, the second largest region in Somalia, lies on the Somalia borders with Ethiopia and Kenya, and shares borders with four Somali regions of Bay, Bakool and Middle Jubba and Lower Jubba. It has an estimated total population of 590,000.

Gedo has six administrative districts: Garbaharey , Baardheere Ceel Waaq in the south and Belet Xaawo, Doloow, and Luuq in the north. Two major rivers run through the region, the Dawa and the Juba. The Dawa River runs along the border of Ethiopia into Somalia’s Gedo region. The Jubba River starts from Doloow, just north of Luuq district, and flows to Buur Dhuubo and Baardheere

What is with the Cuban calan, widaay? Anyway, the Gedo the gobol itself was last gobol created, out from the original gobol of Jubbada Sare (Alta Jubba) ee marka caadi iska dhig.

It has the same colours but its not the Cuban flag and I know the history of Gedo region but I dont see your point walaal. Noone will care about gedo unless we do it.

The lack of development and neglect by the concerned 'maamul goboleed' of Gedo gobollada kale ayee la wadaagtaa, gaar ahaan Jubbada Dhexe, Bakool iyo Galgaduud. Marka gobolka Gedo dhibka gaar uma aha; at least Buuloxaawo is growing and developing relatively as compared to other degmooyin in the region.

Dabaroow, nearly all the districts in Gedo are mixed tribally, right? If I am not mistaken, MMA's family populates 50% of Gedo, at least in most recent history. Not sure about today.

Why not have constitution for all of you in that part of the world. Make Kismayu join the international frenzy for ports, make Gedo join the international frenzy for roads connections between regins, countries etc.

The two of you seem to be locked in a never ending, one uping each other, only changing alliances in Somalia or outside. Even sometimes one of you going to extreme and not focusing or worst yet using Shebab power indirectly to influence the other.

Set rules, formulae, limitations and measurable programs and there will be less need for the Madoobe or Hs. Actually copy what in Ethiopia is called the Hareri solution, where the Somali and Oromo primarily but also Amhara and others all gave the area to the smallest in number the Hareri. It prevented war, it prevented conflict, and brought peace and development.

What at the time of mistrust and suspicion was thought as conspiracy of Tigray preference to the Hareri and Somali is now seen as great solution. The Hareri has been justicious, fair, balanced in their conduct to the Somali, Oromo and Amhara.

Sure Gedo is not alone but my focus is on Gedo and with its resources properly managed it could be a different place to what it is today.

Im not sure about the numbers but Gedo is tribally mixed altough one community have the political power but this would change with a state and fair representation. If MMA is from Gedo then I consider him family aswell.

Well I believe something needs to be done and logically its better to fix one place then to try fix everything at the same time. Its minimizing political friction and maximising development basically.

Every region is developed by it's own community but unfortunately the gedo community are not interested investing gedo. Before the civil war they invested xamar and now they're investing Nairobi.

I Am one of those who believe that the federal system could be made simple. The federal system was agreed during the road map of 2011 without detail specifics. Since the regional governments and their their governing system is becoming more centralized than the federal government, they should be made smaller and accessible the people they supposed to serve.

Regions like GEdo, Bakool or Sanaag have been neglected due to the concentration of power in the so called administrative capitals. In Jubba Land , there is Kismaayo and nothing else. Madoobe would not spare anything for Gedo or anywhere else. The real battle of federalism will take place sooner than later. The Somali people might want a federal system, but they do not want to create another a huge bureaucracy in one city while other places are neglected. I would have made it simple, like 18 regions under the federal system.

As I said before , these regions do not have the capacity or mechanism to build tax and income generating system , so, in order to survive and rule their subjects, they rely on the money from donors. Since the donor money is being regulated these days, they have to to the UAE and others to get some cash to fix internal problems.

The so called idea of security training both in Puntland and Jubbaland benefits directly for the leaders to control the salary and how it is disbursed.

The current system will keep regions like Gedo for ever poor, because the Gedo middle class and the elite will be either residing Kismaayo, Mogadishu or Nairobi. Also, there is large Gedo community, mostly students and their family in Borama who adopted well in the city just like others from Puntland and Mogdishu.

This community has paid a huge price to keep Somalia free from  total Krnyan domination and Ethiopian control of Jubba region. Without them,  Ethiopia and her allies would have taken Kismaayo and the region long ago.

They have also supported the national government whether the president is C/laahi Yusuf, Hassan Sheikh or Farmaajo. Without Gedo community Kenya would have annexed the Jubba regio long ago. Yet, without total peace in Jubbaland , Gedo will not prosper. The first step is to remove the Kenyan army from the land and recreate a new Jubba administration supported by the local people. Everyone knows that a Jubbaland administration created by the occupying army will not survive when Kenyan troops leave.

The Gedo people are fine Somali nationalist that must be helped in these difficult times.

This whole federalism is garbage.

Gedo needs to create their own maamul that reports to Mogadishu, directly without going thro illiterate Madoobe.

Maakhiri1,

It has to happen. Why would people have to remain poor and support a concept that creates a big fat bureaucracy. . People need direct democracy to elected their own regional leaders and go directly under the federal government.

The meagre resources can not be divided by these four level governments. For example, in Galmudug, you got "Gobol iyo Badh" and over hundred members of the local parliament. This is the money that supposed to build roads and clinics.

indeed, the story of Gedo Community is one of resilience and sheer willpower to forge ahead despite the difficult circumstances, there are a couple of other regions that are similar. Just a few months ago, we saw hundreds of ordinary people of Balad-Hawo facing off Kenyan troops and halting the so-called "Border wall"  of encroaching on Somali territory.

It doesn't matter what system of government we adopt as long as the constitution, legislations, rules and regulations are not adhered to and as long as there is no strong and independent judiciary.
