Prominent Puntland Politician talks about Tukaraq

Recommended Posts

From the creation of Puntland in 1998, there were two groups with conflicting thoughts

  • To include SOOL and SANAAG, and Cayn in Puntland ( Abdullahi Yusuf camp)
  • or Not to include, and  leave former British SOMALILAND regions undisturbed,  (Faroole and others)

FAROOLE , , and many others, still alive, and current Puntland politicians believed SOOL and SANAAG, Cayn, should NEVER be included in Puntland, to the point FAROOLE angrily left the conference in 1998,and  gave interview  with his objection to BBC, that is after Abdullahi Yusuf camp won, and decide to include SOOL and SANAAG and Cayn. During Abdullahi Yusuf , he was more of a uniter, and SL would not dare to attack SOOL.

Many years later Faroole became the president of Puntland, still has not changed his belief, and worked closely with SL, undermine Khaatumo, QAWda maqashi waxna ha u qaban style.   Shortly, after Faroole left office,  he was welcomed with  with red carpet in Hargeisa. why would any Puntland  former President ever deserve such welcoming?

Now close cousin of Faroole,  Mohamed Haji Adan discussed this interview, he dared to say more , than Faroole can say publicly. This is still an issue in Puntland, and will be one of the many reasons, Puntland may not go to war in Tukaraq.

At the end of the day, the group that has local support will win, and even though Khaatumo community gets big share in Puntland, for some reason that does not translate to much support, like Faratoon can deliver from JS.

Here is the interview.

He sounds incoherent and little tipsy.  Good thing this sort of person is not a position to do anything.

This sort of person would also recommend Pland leave Galkacayo:D

He does have a point these men switching sides.

The young folks might not understand, but In 2001, when C/laahi Yusuf clashed and defeated Colonel Jamac Cali Jamac, this Mohamed Aadan guy put checkpoints near Garoowe to become a warlord.

Fortunately, C/laahi crushed him and he run away to Somaliland. The move to add Sool and Sanaag to Puntland was smart idea from C/laahi Yusuf and others. Literally, it did blocak the session of Somaliland. As early as 1999, the international media and policy makers put these regions as disputed area.

Makhaayadaa Puntland ka ag furatay Somaliland waxa ay horjoogsatay kala go'a Soomaaliyeed. Waxa ay Puntland soo gaadhsiisay hadda Soomaalidii oo soo noqotay. C/laahi iyo raggii hawshaa galay waxa ay ahaayeen rag aragti dheer.

I could understand why C/laahi Yusuf joined SSDF and those who joined SNM , but I could never undersatnd what people like Faroole stand.

Galbeedi,

Faroole and likes wants to turn the Garowe into Unukaa leh sort situation and dismantle everything.

At this point, I would be happy to see Khaatumo to fully join Hargeisa or Garowe as one unit (obviously, I preferred them to join Garowe hence Somalia) but likes of this man only create confusion. Thanks God majority of his sub-clan don't share the same thinking. No body wishes conflict but situation can't persist.

I found his opinion in line with reality on the ground. The only people who are dreaming about creating clan based borders which no one knows exactly where it goes or how it will be managed. As the Somali nomads' clan borders are like elastic band either shrink or expand depending on season.

Anyway, the reality will hit these people hard on the face soon.

Somaliland will deal with Puntland very harshly this time. Whether Puntland wants to turn into clan or no clan, it really doesn't matter. The issue is about borders and the only border that will exist at the end of the day is the Somalia/Somaliland border.

Hanjabaad and overconfidence seems to be one sided. Bal intaas far waaweyn noogu qora hadhoow yaanan wax kale maqlin.

Laakiin, qofkii maanta isleh dhiig muslim ee soomaliyeed baa aqoonsi keenaya bal aan eegno waxa la dhaxlo.

Is there something from past history here?

There were independent sultanates all over this part of Somalia, some were the same as the kingdoms in Europe with professional state institutions of tax, administration and defense.

Then the Europeans came and one by one either enticed them or defeated them in an all out war.

And now due to weakness of central government people are reverting to regional, district etc they lost.
