The election process is not a process without flaws but one of the most crucial issues is that of the arbiter(the Electoral Committee). Without an independent arbiter, the opposition will always cry fault and they already have done so. See the letter you posted. Even after elections, they will say the process was not democratic, irrelevent if they have won or not.

Ilyria, you start a post on Puntland elections and you don't even know the Puntland electoral law and being a copy of the SL one except for the the parts that Faroole changed in order to steal the election. When one mentions those facts, you turn and turn and cry that one doesn't check the facts and its difficult to debate.

The good news is the Constitutional Court will be submitted to the parliament for approval, and will be in place before the Council elections begin. This should lay to rest main concerns by Midnimo and Udad parties. so after all Faroole is listening.

 

And the deadline for applicants for the local council elections is set on May 11th.

Faroole appoints a "Court", 5 years after his mandate started and just before his re-election. Just for the sake of ruling in his favour when there is a dispute on his re-election.

 

Faroole is a smart man and he will use any cosmetic procedure out there, but all will depend on the people and if they accept his 'charade' or not.

I hope it becomes a fair, impartial and most importantly independent court.

 

While I know everything won't be perfect, I hope these folks can at least aspire to get things right so that these elections shall have a modicum of legitimacy to them.

Faroole agreed to principle demands from the opposition : 1) establishment of constitutional court, and 2) inclusive electoral commission.
