Habartii ceelka ku dhacday waxaa laga sheegay bal shab-shablana igu daya,

Awoowe emotions about Ethiopia aside, this will be significant if it actually takes place as reported. SSC is used interchangeably to mean both the community and the movement. The community is not that homogeneous politically therefore some are solidly behind Puntland admin despite its glaring shortcomings. The movement which by all accounts shook the political tree of the region and effectively changed the conversation, may not be at the table but it will the elephant in the room. So its absence should not be a reason to minimize the significance of the meeting (again, it all takes place).

Bottom line: if the outcome is something that is close to managing (not resolving it, mind you) the conflict, it would be a reason to celebrate.

Who can say a peace call to NO. However, whether we like it or not Ethiopia is the de fact ruler of Somalia thus, SSC community must convince Ethiopians that they want to rule their land and people and not want to be in the sphere of neither PL nor SL. They've to initiate a bilateral relationship with Ethiopia. In all fairness, this announced meeting will not produce any meaningful progress and resolutions since some of the players of the conflict are excluded.

I'm thinking three things:

1) Its a shame that it is being held in Ethio. It should not be held in Ethio.

2) I welcome that they are willing to talk to each other to achieve peace.

3) SSC should be part of the talks.

Xiino,

You are taking a leaf from Duke's tree of thought process. Jumping to conclusions in haste. Sool and Sanaag are not up for negotiations. No government in Hargeisa is going to negotiate with an external party (read Pirate State in this case). However, there are plans to hold peace talks with the locals.

The new strategy from Hargeisa is to isolate the anti-peace elements in Sool and Sanaag - that is where Puntland comes in to the conversation.

This erroneous story is only a weak attempt to distract from the disaster looming in Kampala. Where is the corroboration of this story other than a piece on Hiiraan Online? Somaliland has conducted and continues to conduct talks when necessary with Puntland. They're right next to each other. They don't need to travel a thousand kilometers in order to discuss issues.

Faroole has thus far played ball when it comes to the issue of Sool/Las Anod (since he's come to power), just like Adde Muse before him - meaning concentrate on problems on his side of the border. Here and there he'll make the perfunctory statements on Sool in order to assuage the egos of the 'radicalized diaspora' , but he'll make no substantive movements where it really matters, which is on the ground.

Secondly, no government in Hargeisa can go into negotiations over the borders and expect to stay in power in Hargeisa! But as usual, many continue to think with their emotions rather than their intellect.

And so the saga of SOL continues...
