Satirical Side Of Sayid Cabdulle: Hyena's Advocate

Sayid iyo Daraawishtii oo taal ama degan tuullada Ayl, ayaa maalin maalmaha ka mid ah qof dumar ah oo ari-raaci ahi, u soo dacwootay nin la oran jiray Xusseen Dhiqle, oo Sayidka gabayada u qaban jirey, kuna tiri:

Gabar: "Arigii Waraabaa marsdoo, maalin walba wuu soo hororayaa."

Markaasuu Xuseen dhiqle ku jawaabey "Oo maxaad oran weydey:

Dhurwaa ariga Eebaa lehe

Eebiyo astaadkaa lehe

Oo niman dableeyaa lehe

Oo niman ku dili baa lehe

Oo niman ku deyn baa lehe

Gaaciyo mataan baa lehe

Cawrala dabeey baa lehe

Suubaan aan samreyn baa lehe

Markuu intaasoo majaajillo ah Xusseen Dhiqle tiriyey, oo uu waraabihii la hadley, ayaa Sayidkii yiri, "Xuseenoow bal dhageyso, Waraabihii baa isagana kuu soo gabyoo, waa aniga wakiil ka ahe" Sayidka wuxuu diidanyahay, midhkaa uu Xusseen ku soo daray majaajilloda ee ahi "Dhurwaa ariga Eebaa lehe, Eebiyo astaadkaa lehe ", Eebe wax lalama yeelankaro buu ka xanaaqey Sayidka. Markaa wuxuu yiri, Waraabihii wuxuu ku yiri:

Xusseenoow aqoon xume

Classic.

I used to have this poem but I lost it. Thanks for posting this Dhiqle vs Sayidka soft battle. Maybe we should dedicate this small thread to Sayidka and his men. I will add to it Insha Allah.

^^^ Classic indeed. Dedicating this threat to the Sayid and his men would be wonderful. Beyond that I think there is a need for literary project where the works of all Somali poets are translated, explained and studied. A worthy exercise, if you ask me.

PS: Glad you are familiar with the piece above.

Salaam,

Paragon,

I cannot figure out if this was from the Sayid or Hussain-Dhiqle, (satire)

Habar Dugaag sharing a She-camel!, but no fairness in this world as it translates - the equivalent of: The Winner Takes All!

Here it geos:

Qayaax Maash Libaaxba Dhurwaa

Qaybi yidhi Soore

Wuxu yidhi Hilabaha Jeex bal qabo

Qoon dhan baan nahaye

QabanQaabiyhi buu marka qoonsaduu dilaaye

Dhirbaaxuu il kaga so qaaday u hoor ka so qubayee

Markaasu Dawco so qabsaday sidii qisaaseede

Wuxu yidhi Qanjaafule xumaye tali qiyaastaada

Waxay tidhi Qumud iyo Dalool iyo Legg iyo Qawlihii kuruksa

Waxay tidhi islow qaybiyee Neefka wada qaado

Markaasu dugaagi qabasaday qoobab kadafleeye

Wuxuu Yidhi maxa sidaa ku qatalay qoon dhan baan nahayee

Waxay tidhi Qudhayduun baan u yaabe miyaan ina qasaareeyay.

Cannot remember the rest – its not complete

Sharmarke that was a nice poem. The poem was composed by Hussein Dhiqle. Some time ago, I'd seen on the Net the complete poem with some details on it, so I'm gonna share that with U here today.

Hussein Mohamoud Farah, the Taleh Spokesman, aka "Hussein Dhiqleh, is

said to have had pictorial retrospections. No doubt his talents contributed

to the cause of the Dervish movement immensely. The following piece,

"Qayb Libaax", is one of the last recorded poems generated during the

Dervish movement, an era charecterized as a great Somali awakening,

politically and culturally.

In section one, Dhiqleh explains briefly for the Arsi King, Nuuh Muhummud

Daadhi, how a hyena was punished by King lion when the former did not

distribute a prey, "Hal" or "Rati", collectively owned by the animals

according to the latter's wishes.

Qiyaashmaash libaax baa dhurwaa qaybi yidhi soore

Wuxuu yidhi hilbaha jeex bal qabo qoon dhan baan nahaye

Markaasuu qalbabaalihii qoonsadoo dilaye

Dharbaaxuu il kaga qaaday oo hoor ka soo qubay e

Afqashuushle goortuu dhintuu sii qataabsaday e

Qambaruursi iyo oohin buu qoob dunuunucaye

In section two, Dhiqleh relates the second episode of the legendary story.

King Lion instructs a fox "inay taliso qaddaarkeeda". Frenzy descends on her.

He rubs his canine tooth sharply. She gets the point. Using a series of

fractions whose sum, as the count of the fractions goes to infinity, equals

the complete "Rati", the fox concludes "kuu wada qorsheeyay Islaw neefka wada

qaado". Neat she is, was she not?

Dawacuu markaas soo qabsaday sida qisaaseede

Iyadoo qarqari buu ilkaha qoorqabkii xoqaye

Wuxuu yidhi qanjaafula xumay tali qaddaarkaaga

Adeer gacalle qaar iyo dalool iyo leg iyo qawdhihii kuruska

Kuu wada qorsheeyaye Islaw neefka wada qaado

Now, the rest of the animals complain about her unfair "Distribution of the

wealth of the nation". Perhaps this Somali thought contributed to Adam

Smith's "Invisible Hand" philisophy. As they say those who record their

inventions get the first credit. "Innagoo quruun dhana maxaa qado inoo

diiday?", argued the rest of the "Habar Dugaag.

Markaasaa wixii qaday qabsaday qoobab kadafley e

Wax la yidhi qabiil ma leh dayay qaybiyaha aare

Innagoo quruun dhana maxaa qado inoo diiday?

To which the articulate fox responded with:

Qacdii hore haddaan dayay kobtii weerka sii qulushay

Badh baa kuu qisma ah waa wuxuu eeday qaaryar e

Aniguna qudhaasaan ahoo lay qulqulateeye

Duqii noo qab weynaa wakaas qooqa loo dilaye

Qaddaarkii ilaah iyo Rabbaan quud ka sugayaaye

Anigaan qudraba hayn miyaan qumush ka soo waaqsan?

Qudhaydaan u yaabaye miyaan ina qasaarteeyey?

Apparently, as the fox explained, "Badh baa kuu qisma ah" was not a

satisfactory answer in the eyes of King Lion.

Similarly, Dhiqleh was afraid that King Nuuh Muhummud Daadhi may not buy

any justifications why he could not get married to Jamaad Sheekh Cabdulle.

Thus, like the fox, Dhiqleh concludes "Tanna qaata Naadaba rag bay qaac

u shidataaye".

Anna qayb libaax weeye taad igu qasbaysaane

Dadka igu qoslaayiyo kobtaan ka qalbi diidaayo

Qadayeey adduunyo uma socon waad I qaxarteene

Qadankii dariiqiyo haddaan qadimadii waayey

Labadii qofee nagaga hadhay qaafadii dumarka

Tii quruxda roonayd hadday Cali la qooqayso

Qudhoo keliya baa nagu hadhee qalabku yiille

Tanna qaata Naadaba rag bay qaac u shidataaye.

Meygaagow thanks for posting it; yours is a deep literary comment, saaxiib.

These are noble lines hidden in arcane arty words, indeed. The story of ‘Lion Justice’ was not meant to amuse literary connoisseurs to appreciate its subtleties; rather it was composed to address the plight of banished women under a lustful chief. Not to mention that Hussien Dhiqle was no man of light literature, known he was to disseminate and sprinkle his words of wisdom quite generously.

Sharma’arkow thanks for bringing them up.

This could as well be another literary avalanche :D .

Allamagan, adaa mudan sxb. Since you are a big fan, we should look forward to your future contributions sxb smile.gif .

Shar ma Arke, sxb, Habar Dugaag, siduu sxbkeen Meygaag sheegayba, waxaa iska leh Xusseen Dhiqle. Waana gabay uu Dhiqle ku muujinayo uur-laxaw uu ka qabo sida foosha xun ee ay boqortooyadii Caruuse ula dhaqmeen hablihii Sayidka la dhashay amba haray. Gabaygaa uu Dhiqle tiriyey ee gocashada ah waxaa kaloo laga dareemi karayaa 'cidlawga' iyo 'tayo-la'aanta' uu la kulmay kadib Sayidka jabkiisii iyo geeridiisiiba. Waa caloolyoowga maanta inaga na haysta oo kale, kadib dagaalankii sokeeye (post-1991). Majaajillada kale een aan soo kor ku soo daabacay wey ka duwantahay tan aad adiga soo qortay, Shar ma Arke.

Meygaag, sxb thank you very much. That was simply fantastic. You commentary and analysis on the poem tell me that you are quite familiar with suugaanta sxb. Hope we get more insightful posts from you...thanks again.

Xiinoow, you are absolutely right. Everytime I read or remember the poem by Xusseen Dhiqle, I cannot help but remember another piece from Xassan Sheikh Muumin's play (or least parts of it) 'Gaadhaa-bidhaan (FireFly), in which like Dhiqle, Xassan laments about the misfortune that has befallen our girls, albeit, strangely enough, his lamentation was toward Somali women of the 1960s, for which ina Sheikh Muumin has also composed the classic 'Shabeel Naggood'. In today's case, however, we have much more serious issues to lament about. Below is Xassan Sheikh Muumin:

Aduunyadu in ay iilatay

Ooy aakhir saban joogto

Ubadkii la eegani jiree

Loo arriminaayey

Edebtii yo asluubtii la bareey

kala illaaweene

Eraygii uu faro Waalidkood

Ma o ogolaadaane,

Aaba iyo hooyeey

Abaalkoodi lumiyeene

Ilmihii dadkoodii? ka tegay

Aayatiin maleh e'

Ikhtiyaarku meeshuu dhigo

Waaba la ogaan e'

Ayaanteey kacaanto

Eey sidi Ubaxa geeseeyso

Inantii, ardaagay fadhido

Loogu imanaayey

Ururkiyo Ijaabada gabdhihii

Lagu aroosaayey

Arooreey ka doorteen

Hidihii aaminka ahaaye

Ibliis-baa kaxaystay oo

cidladaa laga ugaadhaaye

Howlaha afduubaaya

Ee araxda goynaayi

Goortuu amaan been ah

Iyo sheeko ku afuufo

Uma fiirsadaan

xaarintuu dhigay asaagood e'

From Gaadhaa-Bidhaan (FireFly) Xassan Sheikh Muumin

Abaadir, Welcome Sxb. Abaadir, ninyahow macawiista haydo oo murti meel ka raadi, aan kala faaideysano e'.

Salaam,

Maygaag,

this is Classic, remarkable, this is extraodianary poetic superiority and oratory excellence, amazing indeed, and thanks for your comments.

Xiin,

This could as well be another literary avalanche :D , bear in mind Hussien-Dhiqle was a heavy weight Poet and wordsmith on his own right, since the Sayid told him long ago:

Mandhow luugooyada ka Da'a Lahasho waa ceeb

in that Sonnet i love the bayat which says:

Mandhow ixsaan lagam tago eed hadaad faliye !

in same gabay, since at that time xuseen was composing a mighty poems.

Abaadir,

Indeed rag waa raggi hore hadlana waa intay yidhaahdeen, all we need to just enjoy and reveiw their work, luck we are as we have been spoiled by choice!

Paragon,

Saxiib sugaanta waa national treasure, nin ba dhinac buu ka kulaalayaa,Somalis was never short of Eloquent playwrights and famous composers par excellence, from xasan Sh.Mumin to Ali Sugle better know as Dun-Carbeed., The author of the everlasting sonnet: such as:

Af qalaad aqoontu miyaa?

Maya, Maya!

Maahee af qalaad, aqoontu miyaa?

Maya, maya!

Mahee, waa intuu qofba Eebbe gashaa

Ayey nala tahay anagee, ma ogtahay

Dib looma abuuro dadkee!

indeed its a different story story altogether, have a nice weekend,am rushing out, Au revoir Mon ames :D
