P R E S S R E L E A S E :-Dangerous Attempts to Spread the Mogadishu Insurgency to the Hitherto Peaceful North

On April 12 a contingent of “Somaliland” forces, astonishingly led by ten ministers, made a swift and daring incursion deep into Sanaag and claimed to have captured Dhahar town. This surprise incursion provoked a rapid military reaction from Puntland forces which then routed the “Somaliland” contingent and sent them fleeing back to Erigavo whence they came. It is important to note that the “Somaliland” contingent was sent to Dhahar by the secessionist administration of Hargeisa against the advice and objection of the people of Erigavo on the eastern border between Puntland and “Somaliland”.

In consequence of its defeat at Dhahar the so-called Somaliland has now amassed its forces in the border areas, with the apparent intention of launching a major attack on Puntland. Furthermore, it is reported that Eritrea has been urging “Somaliland”, with promises to accord it diplomatic recognition later, to open a new war front in order to weaken the recognized Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and ‘destroy’ the home base of President Abdullahi Yusuf. There are confirmed reports also that some southern clan politicians who were leading the insurgency against the TFG in Mogadishu have sought refuge in Hargeisa. They are also in the thick of the conspiracy to involve the North in the civil war and, to please their hosts; they have already made pronouncements agreeing to the dismemberment of the country. The renewal of hostilities by “Somaliland” and Puntland is likely to suck Ethiopia into the conflict, Eritrea being already in it. Once the conflict in Southern Somalia is allowed to spread to the hitherto peaceful North there will be clear justification to deploy international peacekeepers along the borders between Sool and “Somaliland” on the one hand and Eastern Sanaag and “Somaliland” on the other.

In order to thwart these warmongering efforts the Coalition of Sool, Sanaag, Cayn and Highland Communities In the Diaspora calls for the immediate intervention of the African Union, IGAD, the Arab League, the OIC, the EU, the UN and the United States by exerting pressure on the secessionist Administration in Hargeisa so that it will desist from its preparations for war and opt for peace. We implore the international community not to allow the civil war which devastated the South to escalate and spread to our peaceful North. We hope and pray that sense will prevail.

Executive committee of the Coalition of Sool, Sanaag, Cayn and Highland Communities in the Diaspora,

Maakhir, any articles on the latest conflicts in the south?

This 'organisation' seems to be chomping at the bit to bash SL but no such bashing of the Ethio occupation, TFG incompetence etc. So much for 'unity' ey?

Maakhir, is Cali Kahliif Gallayr a member of this Organization? I think the organization should come forward and condemn the TFG. There is need for inclusive approach to Somali problems.

^ He is somali before all else and that shows in his political discourses. I was curious to know if he was a member. Thanks for the info.

Midnimo Soomaaliyeed waa sahlan tahay helitaankeeda haddii la helo dowlad qabiil ka fog oo kalsooni gelin karta soomaalidoo dhan.

Inta la leeyahay A/Y iyo Khashin la mid ah waa madaxweyne soomaaliyeed, Midnimo will take a backseat. Somalis have a reason to resist giving up their security and leaving it in the hands of criminals saxib. Marka dowlad xalaal aan kawada shaqeyno, ka dibna aan la dirirno wixii soomaaliya kala qeybinaayo.

TFGda needs to go first.

^What will replace the TFG? lets not go back to 1991, when we got rid of Siyad barre but didn't have anything to replace him with.

We need to find an alternative for teh TFg first, we need a shadow government, that can step in and take over from the TFG.

^ You should worry about what replaces the TFG if it was serving a good purpose other than the genocide of their own people. The TFG destroyed all chances of peace for the country by bringing violence to peaceful Muqdisho, its ministers engaged in clan animosity and on record declared the TFG and the Xabashi Amry is for their own exclusive benefit to the loss of others. The stooge Geeddi wants to continue the violence, A/Y is ecstatic with the situation and declared interest in seeing this war to the end.

Marka saaxib. I don't understand what is there to worry about replacing or destrtoying such group of murderous men and hanging them. Muqdisho did well without the TFG and it will do well again. No question about it. Whoever will be displeased with the TFG's death can go to HELL. Such people were not interested in Somali unity and governance to begin with anyway.

Once Xabashis are ejected, government formation and reconciliaton between clans won't be a problem. Awalba ninkii TFGDa u taageeri jiray dowladnimo jacayl oo daacad ahaa, they will still support a new government based on better system than the TFG crap. if people supported the TFG because someone holding a position in it related to their clan, it is their loss.

^Sxb calm adown and listen, I am not saying the TFG is worth anything.

What I am saying is instead of destroying the TFG and then working another 5 years figuring out what next, we should start working at what will replace it, that way we will be able to get rid of the TFG faster, because the people have a real alternative and we will also save time.

Because destroying the TFG now will solve nothing, we will be in the current mess, same tribal BS.

So work on a real solution instead of half measures.

There should be a real alternative, not the same old clan BS, no clan will be able to eject Ethiopia alone, so its time to reach out to other clans.

^ Saxib, Other clans are welcome to join anytime. They are part of the ongoing war although not in great numbers as we all hoped to see. It is not only one clan members fighting but other somalis who hail from nonlocal clans. I gave a lift the other day to a brother from Galdogob whose cousin is in Muqdisho fighting alonside others. His cousin informed him that members from all somali clans are there in the war. The clan "name" is a ploy to deny A/Y, Geeddi and Zenawi their benefitial "war on terror". It is a good cover for the good patriots. Besides, if members of the clans of Muqdisho don't speak out against the genocide, join the war to defend their people, who will? they need to get the ball rolling so others can join them.

I agree that destroying the TFG alone won't bring a solution but it is a start saxib. Leadership will be available as tangible progress is made on the ground. It is up to other somalis to work with those who oppose the TFG.

I am calm but spirited :D Adigaana iga fiican bro xagga wadaniyadda, aniga A/Y supporters dhiiqadaan la qastaa because si kaloo wax lagu fahamsiin karo malahan. Maantoo dhan ilaahaa sidaan yiri haddaad kuleedahay makala jeclo, so you hit them where it hurts them the most. Take care.

MJ,

The people on the plane were deportees from Saudi Arabia, not from Mogadishu wars.

If my memory serves correctly, Somaliland IS the one helping innocent civilians from Muqdisho who have found home in Somaliland whom plane was turned back by Puntland authorities. Meanwhile Puntland is the one who is rounding them up and sending them back.

Your memory failed. That event was greatly exaggerated in order to cash-in the unfortunate Mogadishu Massacre. The real thing however was a non-event. It simply was Mogadishu destined people could not land there because the airport there was closed, so was to wait for a while things settle there. It was a matter of choice whether to continue to Hargeisa over Galkacio (not as save). We all know how nice Hargeisa is, don't we? ;)

Galkacio asks visa no-one, unlike the newly-found-friend of the south called Somaliland!

Adeer, werent' those hundreds including women and children rounded up in Gorowe and accused of threatening the security of Pland?

The last time Somaliland deported somalis was way back when, even that was wrong and no one here is justifying, but you seem to be preoccupied with that more so with what is going on today.

BTW....Actually Galkacay and Pland did ask documents, it was just a month back remember? :D
