ONLF a failure of a community

His timing is indeed perfect. Waa raad baa'bin. He is trying to distract from the main issue.

TO ALL ONLF supporters,

Please, please refrain from replying to Duke. It is clear the guy has nothing new except recycled insults.

ONLF are true heroes of Somali people in that region, for close a century they fought for liberation of an entire region, not for a clan. they are the only leverage future somali republic when it finally gets revived have against Ethiopia.

viva ONLF

A&T and Jafe01 are online personas, and thier clannish talks can not be a measure of ONLF

ONLF are garbage, they are a clan entity, and their name states that simple fact. They need to stop sending kids to their death, much like the ****** in the south. The years of wars and fake national pride are over. Its time to develop the capacity of the Somali people. ;)

Comparing ONLF to those fighting in the south is nonsense. ONLF is fighting for the liberation of occuppied land, not for political dominance.

saying ONLF is a failure because they did not win is like saying PLO is a failure.

There you go gain lad, getting all confused. PLO is named after a nation, ONLF is named after a clan, most other clans specillay the ones in Jigjiga resent it.

The fact that ONLF itself refuses to recognise that fact highlights their failure.

Half of the clan is in ONLF, the other half in the Ethiopian government, hunting down ONLF. How on earth will this lead to anything but death and destruction?

Awoowe you need to read the history of any nation’s struggle and you would see that it has never been easy to unify a group of people around one goal, and that is not unique to ONLF. There are Chechnyains working for Russia just like there are Palestinians working for Israel. It’s not unique to ******ia, it happens everywhere. You are not the only one having problem with the name, and it could be important if changing it can win more resource for the struggle of these community. But questioning the struggle itself for a mere name is the problem…

^^^I think the word "struggle" has been wrongly Imbedded on the Somali psyche, but responsibility, accountability and a clear strategy is what has always been missing. To compare the Somali state of Ethiopia to Chechnya, and Palestine is misleading at best and criminal at worst. The failure of the Somali’s in general has been quite clear, look I think the whole ONLF, AL SHABAAB, and the other silly monikers we take up is a complete waste of time. This particular community need to think beyond the box, become more inclusive and outline a strategy where they can lead the other Somali’s and not stick to a clan name.

True patriotism is loving ones people and not land.

^^It’s very simple. ****** is an occupied region by Ethiopia; majority of its people has been fighting for independence for a long time. If thinking beyond box means giving up that struggle and that end goal it has a different name. Because the alternative is to Amharasize and assimilate just like the Oromo nation did. One needs to understand the true nature of Ethiopia. Ethiopia is neither democratic nor federal, it’s controlled by minority group backed by some western nations for historical and religions reasons.

ONLF alone cannot liberate ******ia. But what it can do, has been doing very well is to keep the struggle alive until strong somalia emerges and the question of ******ia is comprehensively settled.

No one doubts that Ethiopia is not democratic, nor Federal, but one also should not doubt how weak Ethiopia is, and how the ONLF “struggle” has been a complete failure to address the needs of the Somali’s. The fact that one wants to liberate the Somali’s and thus uses a clan name in that struggle, which disenfranchises a large segment of the Somali’s also can not be ignored nor downplayed.

The problem is not that I disagree with the liberation of the Somali’s, Oromo. Afar and others within Ethiopia, I think that such a struggle can not be done under a clan name. For if the Somali’s had a rebel movement based on the interest of every Somali, they would have achived a great deal, and would have had their country to themselves.

No what will a strong Somali state do for the ONLF, but to tell them to change the name and the nature of the struggle first into a pan Somali movement. Again should this community not think outside the box, and include everyone into the struggle or the liberation? This is the crux of the matter, while you say the majority of the population are fighting the Ethiopian occupation, the ONLF can only muster a few thousand fighters at best, while the country has 4 million Somali’s.

A rethink is in order and excuses and semantics will not do.

^^The name, which you repeatedly referenced as a sore point for the clan conscious Somali people in ******ia, is a legitimate concern that warrants attention. Renaming the organization will not be difficult in my estimation. From a historical perspective the name itself was given by colonial powers, thus the region has become known for it. It was not clannish but a logical move to name the rebel movement after the region for whose independence it set up to fight. So in the big scheme of things a rename is a tactical move, and will not change the large strategy of continuing the armed struggle unless Ethiopia either changes its character or grants impendence. If you know the region, this community has not sought to dominate anyone really. Every clan, even small ones, has their own historical settlements under their domain. The only source of this lingering envy is the fact this community is the largest in size soomaliduna waxba iskuma ogola runtii.

If strong Somalia emerges, it will have unparalleled influence on the final strategy and the organizational structure of the movement if the state shows commitment in terms of resources and diplomatic support of the large struggle. It could also negotiate with Ethiopia and address the source of this long conflict and reach settlement of some sort. Intaa taa laga gaarayyo raggu hasii celceliyeen ee ha la daayyo

General Duke stated what he doesn't like, the name, so the name should be changed, and Geeneral Duke would be fighting the front line along the rebels to liberate the land.

General Duke is on board ladies and gentlemen once the name is removed, that is his only concern!
