and now aljazeera turn.

Ethiopia breaks ties with Qatar

Al Jazeera has recently broadcast several reports

on fighters in Ethiopia's ****** region

Ethiopia has broken diplomatic ties with Qatar, accusing the Gulf state of supporting armed opposition groups across the Horn of Africa region.

A statement from the Ethiopian government cited Qatar's "strong ties" with opposition groups inside the country and fighters in Somalia, where Ethiopia sent troops in 2006 to support the government.

"Ethiopia has displayed considerable patience towards Qatar's attempts to destabilise our sub-region and, in particular, its hostile behavior towards Ethiopia," an Ethiopian government statement said on Monday.

"Qatar has left no stone unturned to cause harm to Ethiopia's national security."

The statement said Qatar had provided "direct and indirect assistance to terrorist organisations in Somalia and other areas".

But it also noted that Qatar had consistently rejected claims that it was supporting anti-Ethiopian groups.

The statement said that "all diplomatic efforts have been deployed to try and persuade Qatar to change its destructive activities," but that Ethiopia now had "no alternative" but to cut ties with Qatar.

"Apparently blinded by arrogance, the source of which is clear enough, Qatar has remained deaf to all our efforts," the statement said.

There has been no official response from Qatar.

Media worries

Ethiopia also said that its complaints included its support for Eritrea and
"the output of its media outlets".

In recent days Al Jazeera has broadcast several reports on the conflict in Ethiopia's ****** region, where ethnic Somali rebels are fighting government forces.

"Al Jazeera is using inaccurate and misleading information, fabricated by opposition elements backed by a state which makes no secret of its efforts to destabilise not only Ethiopia but also the entire sub region," the Ethiopian foreign ministry alleged in a statement.

The Ethiopian authorities have imposed a news blackout on the region, which is populated by Somali-ethnic Muslims and has restricted humanitarian work in the area.

"the output of its media outlets".

freedom of the press must be a very strange Phenomena for ethiopia. they just can't comprehend why aljazeera can broadcast their crimes and get away with it. war yey is modheen

Ethiopia breaks diplomatic relations with Qatar over TV reports on ******

Tuesday 22 April 2008.

April 21, 2008 (ADDIS ABABA) – Ethiopia has decided Monday to break diplomatic ties with Qatar over accusations of supporting terrorist organizations in the Horn of Africa. This decision comes following the airing of reports about ****** by a Qatari TV.

Woman says she joined ****** rebellion because she had been raped by Ethiopian soldiers. (photo Al-Jazeera) The Ethiopian government, in a statement issued today, said that Qatari media outlets become a source of support for armed opposition groups. This decision came after the broadcasting by al-Jazeera satellite TV of a series of news reports about ******.

Al-Jazeera journalists exposed the miserable humanitarian situation in the hot, arid and inhospitable ****** region which is home to Somali-speaking nomads. The Arab and International TV interviewed women claiming being raped by Ethiopian soldiers and farmers who say their properties are stolen by Ethiopian army besides their detention and torture.

"This has gone beyond Qatar’s strong ties with Eritrea." the Ethiopian government stated.

The Arabic and English languages channel also interviewed the members of the rebel ****** National Liberation Front (ONLF). The channel every day during one week advertised for Oganden reports before their broadcasting. The reports were aired first by the Arabic service during the first week of April followed by the English service in the second week.

"Qatar has, however, consistently refused to accept responsibility for activities of which Ethiopia has unequivocal evidence." The statement added.

Al-Jazeera, is often criticised in the Arab world for opening its doors for opposition groups in the region. During the first year of the occupation of Irak by the US troops, Washington exercised pressures of its ally the Qatari government but in vain.

Qatar does not have an embassy in Ethiopia, and Ethiopian foreign ministry spokesperson said he was unaware of any aid from Qatar.

All ethiopians know the TPLF is a tribal regime. Wa jilib meel boobaya who cares nothing about even the wider interst of ethiopia. That is why it is a pity Somali's say 'Ethiopia invaded us'. In fact, it is a Tigrayan Invasion.

The ****** National Liberation Front (ONLF) - a Somali-ethnic movement which has battled Addis Ababa for two decades - said its leaders were arrested on Tuesday.

"The two ONLF political prisoners were removed by force from their hotel in Garowe in central Somalia by security forces of the Puntland administration," the rebel movement said in a statement.

The rebel group said the two ONLF leaders were then driven in the personal vehicle of Puntland's finance minister back to the ****** border and handed over to Ethiopian security.

The twom men are martyers. Hadda waa la dilay. But Let us always remain calm and know that the people of puntland have nothing to do with the crimes of few 'maamul' ku sheeg ah. It was the same in Hargeisa-most of the people disapproved of selling fellow somali's to xabashi. Abdilatif niyadda uun aan adkayno-waa masiibo ina haysatee.

Makayte wuxuu yidhi:

Somalia elder arrested for denouncing extraditions to Ethiopia

May 4, 2008 - 10:22:32 AM

GALKAYO, Somalia May 4 (Garowe Online) - A traditional elder in northern Somalia's Puntland region was arrested by local police Sunday morning after giving an interview to the BBC yesterday, relatives said.

Abdalla Jama Jibril, an elder based in the Puntland town of Galkayo, was taken from his home by Puntland police and transported to an unknown location, his son told Garowe Online.

During his interview with the BBC Somali Service, Mr. Jibril condemned the arbitrary arrests of several Somali civilians by Puntland authorities, some of whom were later extradited to Ethiopia. [ READ: Puntland extradites more Somali civilians to Ethiopian govt: Report]

Mohamed Adan Muse, chairman of the Galkayo-based Abdullahi Isse Human Rights group, has condemned Mr. Jibril's arrest as a violation upon the right to speak freely.

The human rights group was also very critical of several civilians arrested by Puntland police for yet-unspecified reasons.

All the detained persons were unarmed civilians with clan ties to Ethiopia's ****** region, which has an ethnically Somali population and has been wracked by armed conflict led by ****** National Liberation Front (ONLF) rebels since the 1990s.

Last month, two ONLF political officers were the first to be arrested in Puntland and later extradited to Ethiopia.

The government of Puntland denies the allegations, but a senior Puntland army commander reportedly told Puntland-based news agency Horseed Media that the regional government has nothing to do with the arrests.

Col. Abdishakur Abdullahi, the acting military commander in Mudug region where Galkayo is based, said Ethiopian security forces have the "permission" to conduct operations in "any part of Somalia," according to a Horseed Media report.

The Ethiopian army invaded central and southern Somalia in December 2006 to oust Islamic Courts rulers from Mogadishu and install the weak interim government.

Ethiopia's repressive government has been widely condemned for gross human rights violations and war crimes, including mass killings in Somalia perpetrated by the Ethiopian army.
