These men are out of step with the public's views. It seems they want to hold on to their own power.

Isimada are not the cause of the problem, they only came in to picture when compelled to mediate in dispute that turned in to an open conflict.

The cause of the problem is that PL leaderships unrealistic last minute planning of ‘one-man, one vote’ elections, that leads one to perceive effort as insincere. Even the Electoral time table published last week, showed that the electoral regulations were not even in place, while 3 months left before election date.

they are redundant, their time and use is over,

any modern nation wants to move forward cannot rely on ancient system, there are still roles for them, marriages, small clan issues, blood money, which be solved once country is modernized, and everyone gets insurance.

This outdated system, the sooner it is erased, the better.

Issims have just complicated matters, overreaching their Constitutional powers, and thereby diminishing their role, but a solution could arise through the fissure.

Deni has been wrong on his managing, and in decision-making in previous matters, political or otherwise, most notably incl. his slighting of Issims more than once, but this time round, he is on the right side of history.

Issims have been right more than once in resolving disputes, political or otherwise in the past, but are dead wrong in this case.

It appears they strengthened the hand of the opposition by seemingly aligning with one side of the dispute, thereby becoming a part of the brinkmanship.

The vox populi demands 1m1v elections.

Following Issims of Bari, Sanaag, Nugaal, and Mudug are not on board, and not in agreement with the recommendations put forth by other Issims lead by Boqor Burhan.

Irrelevant of the populist support. Deni wasn’t elect by the people but was elected through the Issims system and the MPs they have selected, specially because his term has ended.  But coming up with this hastily initiative in the last months of his mandate, while it’s even practically impossible to organize elections in 3 months time, doesn’t give confidence.

He could have prepared the elections during the first years of his mandate and avoided this political crisis, as the Issims have also pointed out that a next leadership should commit to organise elections early on in their mandate.

Then who will settle conflicts and disputes, politicians?

Building institutions, moving to 1p1v. Enough is enough,25 years.

Do you think the opposition is honest and wants a fair free election? why are they so scared about seeking votes from the public?

I am telling you something, 1p1v will shake PL, there are many minorities, who have no seat now, but will likely win a seat.

You raise valid points, but are leaving out important elements at the heart of the dispute. The goal here is to move away from the legacy system of selecting MPs, and instead finalise the democratisation programme of implementing 1m1v, as has been done in District Council elections in May 2023. The process is in place, and if you glance at the timelines put out by PEC, Presidential and Parliamentary election could be held by Feb. 25th. This is within permitted timeframe, as provided by the State Constitution.

I shall let Axmed Saciid Aw Nur explain it better. He is more in favour of the MPs being elected, who in turn shall select a President & VP, a compromise in other words, as was proposed by 3 political parties.

I understand your points and they are all valid, but not 3 months before the end of the Presidential mandate. It doesn’t seem an opportune moment to be setting up a whole electoral system, let alone agree on it with all the stakeholders involved (Electoral commission, Parliament, Executive, etc) let alone the political parties.

I agree stakeholders must be consulted, included in the negotiations, and involved in the process, till the final day, and not just periodically, just as was done earlier on, with their recommendations being incorporated into the process incl: a) Constitutional Court, b) Doing away with the political party limitation, c) Extending PEC members  etc.

On the matter of timelines, there is plenty of time to hold the elections, and the deadline is BEFORE May 08, 2024, as outlined in the Constitution.

PEC has been tasked to determine as to the whats and hows, set the timelines, as in the Feb. 25th date, and could adjust it as needed. The problem is 'cos of his mismanagement of the Federal MPs, Issims and opposition alike have no confidence in his ability to remain impartial, fair, and transparent. And rightly so. The bloody man has tyrannical tendencies, and it is as if the past 50 tumultuous years has not happened in the Somali peninsula.
