  1. Modern -Of or relating to recent times or the present: modern history. Characteristic or expressive of recent times or the present; contemporary or up-to-date: a modern lifestyle; a modern way of thinking. Of or relating to a recently developed or advanced style, technique, or technology: modern art; modern medicine. ```````````````````````````````````````````````` In my humble opionion you can be modern in many different aspects of your life. It can be used to discribe the way you talk, the type of car you drive, your home furnishings, your ideals as far as technology or edcuation. But when it comes to Islam how does the term MODERN fit in?....you can't innovate islam nor can you re-develope it...just follow it as it is. Because Allah is all knowing he has made this religion followable(word?) in every time be it the 17th century or the 21st century. As for your previous comment about Being spiritual and drinking....thats not being modern...thats purely a comment meant to make oneself feel good about the wrong they are committing.
  2. Baashi You made some very good points and I am inclined to agree with you. But we need to seperate what is and what should be Below are a few lines from your post...the way I see it all though there are brothers out there that will do as mentioned below there is a greater number of brothers that won't or can't. In that case what is a muslim women to do? As for the income, suppose your husbands guarantee your financial needs and they wish you took care family business, would that be an acceptable proposition to you?

  5. ^^^ even those who have had no sexual experience? I bring that up because people are under the misconception that the only way to get AIDS is by having sex with an infected person. ALthough this may be the leading way to get infected...any exchange of bodily fluid will do.
  6. To a Believer, good fortune and misfortune are merely two sides of the same coin of life. Although we do not welcome hardship, we know that even in the noonday of life, we live in the shadow of death; in the peak of our prosperity, we are just a few short paces away from poverty and in the prime of our good health, illness lurks in the shadows nearby SO true! Jaza kalaahu kheyran lucky....that was needed.
  7. 3. And it is He who spread out the earth, and set thereon mountains standing firm and (flowing) rivers: and fruit of every kind He made in pairs, two and two: ....... 5. If thou dost marvel (at their want of faith), strange is their saying: "When we are (actually) dust, shall we indeed then be in a creation renewed?" They are those who deny their Lord! They are those round whose necks will be yokes (of servitude): they will be Companions of the Fire, to dwell therein (for aye)!
  8. War lords contracting HIV does not surprise me at all...but how reliable are those kenyan doctors? This also brings back an old question...should we get our selves and potential partners tested?...just to be on the safe side?
  9. Am I too late? Lucky hon I hope you and your family and the rest of the muslim people there in Cali are doing ok. Insha alaah I will pray for you. salaam.

    A reminder.

Assalato Wassalamo Ala Sayidina Mohammadin Wa Ala Alihi Attaibin Attahirin Wassalam.. Narrated Talha bin 'Ubaidullah (Radhiallaho anho): A bedouin with unkempt hair came to Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) and said, "O Allah's Apostle! Inform me what Allah has made compulsory for me as regards the prayers." He replied: "You have to offer perfectly the five compulsory prayers in a day and night (24 hours), unless you want to pray Nawafil." The bedouin further asked, "Inform me what Allah has made compulsory for me as regards fasting." He replied, "You have to fast during the whole month of Ramadan, unless you want to fast more as Nawafil." The bedouin further asked, "Tell me how much Zakat Allah has enjoined on me." Thus, Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) informed him about all the rules (i.e. fundamentals) of Islam. The bedouin then said, "By Him Who has honoured you, I will neither perform any Nawafil nor will I decrease what Allah has enjoined on me. Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) said, "If he is speaks the truth, he will succeed (or he will be granted Paradise)." Bukhari Vol. 3 : No. 115
  14. Og thanks sis that was really needed. Is there away I can get a somali version of that? Anyone?
  15. I think the most important thing to remember is that hanuunka ilaahay baa hayo. So if you pray for this person then insha alaha all will go well. Like sis Rahima said you can't change a person...only they can change themself but they have to really truely want it deep down in their hearts. But not praying is major deal....you gotta think about what your getting yourselves into. Take a page from the history of islam. Islam was first spread with an emphasis on tawxiid...once that was established then the rules on what was haram and halal came down. guidance comes gradually for everyone..we all make mistakes and there is no sin too big for allah to forgive. must admit, that I have come to a sad realization, my dream husband does not exist, That's exactly how I see it sis.
  16. Shaqsii thanks Walaal....I needed that. Ramadan Kariim!
  17. Interesting discussion! I have met many faarax's like the one described above. But if you really look at it many people have changed before even during the prophet's (SCW)time...is it that hard for a brotha/sister to change for the better? But then again are you willing to put effort and time into changing someone...how do you know if someone is ready to get rid of their bad habits? As can be seen...I am confused out of my mind....so i'll wait to see what the my fellow nomads have to say. salaam
  18. ok question: What if you pray taraawiix at home and you pray with a juz a night...does that count as a juz a day?
  19. Do you even hear yourself? this isn't about whabism and you know it. Its just a weak attempt by weak minded people trying to make excuses for their lack of adherence to the laws of Allah. First educate yourself on what Islam is, then and only then can you argue about what is and isn't islamic.

    Question.

What is the ruling on people who haven't prayed for a while? by that I mean what do they do once they have decided that they need to start praying. There are some people that believe that once you stopped praying than in aad ka baxday xerada islaamka. If that is the case then do you have to say your shahaada to show that you are re-entering islam? Some daliil would be appreciated.
  21. Bee I feel you hon...I'm addicted to t'v too! I'm working on that though...hopefully I can stop...but only if I keep myself busy with other things.
  22. Things in life happen for a reason you gotta have faith in God. Don't ever regret anything you might have done in the past...think of it as a learning experience...take the lesson and move on. ama Afeef hore lahow ama adkeysi danbe!
