  2. ^Slavery and servitude? Is the Horn like Apartheid South Africa or the Palestinian territories? I don't believe so. As to sitting and filling 'their bellies' - that is precisely the point. TOO many are unable to do so - because filling the bellies of your fellow citizens takes some semblance of organization and governance. And if you wanted to do better than just filling bellies - you need even better organization and governance. Note - militarism doesn't make an appearance in either scenario. As to an Islamic State of Horn of Africa - good luck with that - Somalis can barely unite among themselves - it is seriously naive to think thwy would unite with Oromos. It is apparent there is fundamental disagreement between us. But know this, I wish you every success with your military battle against the Ethiopians.
  3. ^lol - Mr Ood - you have outdone yourself with this missive
  4. O - I would like everyone to be free - but barring that - I would hope Somali galbeed and others would focus on improving their lives rather than battling constantly. Except in dire circumstances, the former is always better than the latter.
  5. ^I've never understood this need to secede or break away in order to achieve decent government. You can do good for the ppl of your region regardless of Addis Ababa provided you choose that route rather than constant militarism. Anyway good luck and Eid Mubarak.
  6. ^Straight forward - concentrating on governance not military adventures. The ICU is in control of the largest city in Somalia and its capital. 1 million ppl+ and the entire country would benefit if they focused on the everyday, mundane but vitally important tasks. They have certainly started on this but so much needs to be done. What a showcase it could become for them if they proceed in the right fashion.
  7. ^To destroy the rest you must attack. I doubt A/Y or the likes are going quietly into that good night. So same old blood lust eh!?
  8. Originally posted by Che-Guevara: LSK....Beautiful pics, but this doesn't make us anymore informative about this country. Do you mind looking into history and struggles of this nation for the benefit of all. Mabybe then we will have a better picture of their involvement in the horn conflicts. P.S one could still see the Italian influence in their architecture, reminds of xamar caddeey. Their involvment in Somalia is purely as a counter to Ethiopia and to make life harder for them. They have no other interest in Somalia. Their history: Late 1800's - colonization by Italy and set up as separate country 1960s - Independance granted and made a part of Eth 1970s - Dominant group, Tigre, in Eritrea started a campaign for independance because of Amhara domination of the united country 1990s - Independance granted as fellow Tigres gain power in Ethiopia 2003? - War with Ethiopia over a tiny patch of land - hundreds of thousands die; Eritrea disproportionately affected Post War - Eritrean prez introduces a raft of laws against media and shuts down most independant voices and clamps down in other ways Yet another example of an independance 'hero' becoming a dictator. Quel surprise!
  9. Fantastic pictures of the capital - but then that's generally the way of African countries. Nice capital, crap countryside. It's funny Somalia hosted both leaders of Ethiopia and Eritrea in opposition and now they're using, abusing and manipulating our country like some rag doll. So much for gratefullness. LSK - why the point about Somalis' lack of knowledge about Eritrea? I for one know all I need to know
  10. Originally posted by Paragon: As always, I don't think attacking Baydhabo would be productive to anyone. Just like Murad, I've always believed in kuwa Baydhabo jooga wada hadalo lala yeesho. Enough people have died as a result of the last months battle. Moreover, within the TFG there are some useful individuals whom the UIC can make use of. What a dramatic turnaround from your previous attitude - let's kill them all, let's get the ICU to take over the whole country. Adeer, ma caqliyotay? If so, waa khayr. Originally posted by Paragon: ^^ThePoint, who said the blood of those who stand in opposition to what is good is sacred? If it means shedding blood to achieve what is best for the nation then so be it. Originally posted by Paragon: Yes, if you stand in opposition to what is good and state your support for a Warlord, then your blood would be shed. Originally posted by Paragon: Again, after sixteen years of cheer-leading for a Warlord, if you are still insistant that I and others should join the cheering, then you are up to no good. And then so be it if your blood is shed. Originally posted by Paragon: ThePoint, I tell you one thing; if you or another Muslim or in this case the whole of Somalis, lost their mind and dwell in inhumanity, I will come to knock some sense and humanity into them.

There are Muslims in Albania, Bosnia, Chechnya etc etc and they are all part of Europe, why aren't the Muslims in those areas winning Nobel prizes? If it’s only about geographical location I might win a Nobel Prize. We are comparing religions so we are comparing two apples. The Jews are more active in the sciences then the Muslims and the Nobel Prize proves it. The Muslims are lagging behind because they are not as active in knowledge gathering as are other religions. Speaking about Jews and knowledge, there was this theory that the Jews enlightened Europe. Jewish scientists and artisans came with the Muslim conquerors of Spain and they settled in Spain. After the Muslims were kicked out of Spain the Jews remained and started serving the Spanish court and the rest is history. No YOU are wrong. Where you live influences your attitude and opportunity since the prevailing culture and society determines that. The Muslims in Albania, Bosnia and Chechnya live in the least developed areas of Europe. And if you wanted to make an accurate comparison - what Jews in those areas have gotten Nobel Prizes - then you could an appropriate comparison to Muslims. You are not comparing religions - religion has nothing to do with one's aptitude or ability for education and thus potential Nobels. The place where you live and its attitudes determine that. And Muslims live in the developing world and are, not suprisingly, less educated and deficient in Nobels. Nor is a Nobel the only measure of deficiency in knowledge.
  12. ^Comparing apples to oranges no? Jews have been living in Europe for centuries now - the heart of scientific discovery and learning. It is natural that they should absorb and make use of opportunities to learn. It's a bit like comparing African Americans' accomplishments with those of Africans in Africa and then shaking one's head. Rather useless
  13. ^Sheh dear, perhaps you need a spirtuality boost from Alle-Ubahane - he has dedicated an entire thread for you eyes only - I can only imagine what else he may 'do' for you:)
  14. ^Sacriliege warya - to even suggest such a thing during Ramadan. The ICU would disapprove mightily - and they may reconsider their appointment of you as their Chief spokesman on SOL. And you can bet that I will forward your post to them.
  15. ^What u doing here Kenyan? This site is for Somalis. That's the ME part of me talking : D
  16. ^30 days and you age that much - De bring the proof - nooh?!

LOL It's about your style of correcting someone K - most ppl don't react well to 'FEAR ALLAH' and 'SUBXANALLAH' - there is a better way than that. And where is Mr. Zu - on his honeymoon?!
  18. ^Well, Khalaf - I'm all for Islamism as long as there is no violence and excess. The Taliban were both - and I abhorred them. Nor do I think we need some massive supra national entity. But we do need to coordinate and work together and that means individual countries/nations have to reform first.
  19. ^Libaax - I just don't believe it. It looks like those wieght loss commercials where they put side by side 2 different ppl - and expect you to believe it.

Opinions that have little basis in facts are much like hot air - easily dimissed. Hot air? He's elected public official. It's his duty to broach any topic he deems of importance to the public eye. It don't matter one whit if the issues are spurrious or worthy. If he felt uncomfortable about members of his constituency covered head to toe save the eyes, he is justified to bring up for discussion the merit of people dressed head to toe in his community. It's only through talking that problems and misgivings can be ameliorated. Not ignoring them and letting them fester till they blow up unmanageably to the detriment of all involved. It is his DUTY to broach ANY topic? That most definitely needs some major qualifiers. One's discomfort with another hardly results in justification to air said discomfort(you certainly have the right but not justification). In polite, civilized society one gets over it and refrains from mentioning it. It's only through talking about problems etc? I don't see a problem with women who wear the face veil - the problem lies with Mr. Straw's discomfort and irrational fears regarding 'separateness'. If it really was Mr. Straw's intention to spark a debate - he could have readily begun it - with the women in his constituency who wear the face veil. He could've spoken with them and tried to understand their experiences in British society. At THAT point - when he has some basis of anecdotal knowledge - he could've taken the debate to a wider level. At the end of the day - this is about personal freedom - any fears about lack of integration/separateness have to be established before they can be included in a debate about face veils. After many years of dealing with these women in his constituency and the women obliging Mr. Straw's discomfort by removing their face veils - it is odd that he would choose this time to spark a 'debate' in good faith. I'm not sure - but my hunch is this yet another example of political opportunism. As to letting things 'fester till they blow up' - hopefully it is Mr. Straw's chances at Deputy Leader of the Labour party. Don't see face veiled women blowing things up anytime soon

I've no problems calling this miraculous. What divine knowledge? Retro-active science is not miraculous. Neither is post -dicted knowlegde miraculous. There's really no need to imbue the Quran what it isn't and can't provide answers. Quran is spiritual book, not science or medicine book. Why look for science in a holy/spiritual guidance book escapes me. It really is not all that complicated saxiib. There are numerous examples of God speaking about the workings of the universe in the Quran - and a number of those statements have been proven as scientifically correct by scientists. There are innumerable websites out there explaining it - search for them. As such there is no imbuing of any kind. I never said the Quran was a science or medicine book - the Quran is a book of guidance and knowledge . Thus, it naturally has aspects of both science and medicine as well as other fields of knowledge. As to things escaping you - I can't say I'm shocked.
  22. ^really more patriotic? Strange for a society that oppressed them for long. I wonder why they are referred as Somali 'Bantus'. They are as Somali as anyone except the society refuses. Are the rer Xamar referred to as Somali Arabs? Strange.
  23. ^What an interesting and hilarious article. I love the part where the sister of the bride says the bride is nervous because 'we're not like Americans'. After ruining their country and finding refuge in other 'African' countries - one would've thought Somalis would drop their ridiculous superior and racist attitudes to others. This story is going a step, albeit tiny, in this direction.
  24. ^?????????????????????????????????? Divine knowledge on the workings of the universe revealed in the Quran and later confirmed by scientists. I've no problems calling this miraculous. I don't think Muslims have all the answers with or without the Quran. What they have is the correct path to God and truth.
  25. ^Wow - I never thought it ever got that cold in Hargiesa. Didn't think it got much below 10 C. Hope those poor or homeless do not get too adversely affected by it
