Gebiley has proven its strategic position for the Somaliland politics after the dramatic score of the voters registration. More than 100,000 registered in the place, the shock as all over around about the totally unexpected outcome of the registration. Since then, the city has been booming with politicians both from the government and opposition parties each one trying to get more votes in the coming elections. Here are some photos taken last week when some politicians from the government and opposition perties visited the city for what is believed to have a political purpose rather than just a visit:

Alla maxaa idin haysta ,,,, There is a car picking me up from home exactly at 7:30am to the office. When i have a meeting or want to do a little supervision there is always a car with a driver. That car brings me home after work exactly at 3pm. Even if i decide to stay late, it is always there until i decide to leave even if it is 8pm which sometimes happens. During the work, my office is fully furnished with one desk and its side desk, a reading lamp, my laptop, color printer, a telephone line, shelves, and a small table where there is a coffee, tea and water. The toilet is just here inside my room so i don't need to go out for a piss or something. The office is located in the second floor. With a DSL connection, i can surf the net the whole freaking day but i don't usually do that coz i have to work hard ,,, -

By Akwei Thompson Washington, DC 25 January 2009 Over the last two years the situation in Somalia has deteriorated into one of the world’s worst humanitarian and security crises. But a report by the International crisis Group says the international community is preoccupied with the piracy phenomenon – instead of concentrating on the core of the crisis, the need for a political settlement. Meanwhile, the recent withdrawal of Ethiopian troops has opened up a new period of uncertainty and risk. In contrast, in the separatist republic of Somaliland, things are heating up toward a presidential election on March 29th. Paula Roque is a researcher for the South Africa-based African security Analysis program. She told Nightline’s Akwei Thompson the upcoming election is part of the consolidation of democracy in Somaliland. “Well, the election is very significant because it’s part of the consolidation and stability as well…she said.” And the election she said “stands in contrast at the statehood of a non-functioning government in south-central Somalia, comparatively two northern states.” Roque said that in voting for a government, Somalia is re-affirming that it’s got a constituency and identity that is consolidated by a popular mandate. The South African analyst said that a successful election in Somaliland would provide a lot of lessons for peace making at the grassroots level and at the consensus level in Somalia. Roque said Somalia is at a critical point. The success of the Djibouti process is instrumental to peace and stability of Somalia and Djibouti and needs to continue being implemented, she said. web page
