  2. The Somaliland government has described the recent comments made to the United Nations Security Council by Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon regarding the situation in Somaliland as "unfortunate, disappointing and ill-informed", according the Sub-Saharan Informer. The Somaliland Foreign Ministry recently issued a communiqué describing Secretary Ban Ki Moon’s comments on the security situation in Somaliland as being inaccurate and misrepresenting the situation in the country. Secretary General Ban Ki Moon described the security situation in Somaliland as “fragile. But in comparison to central and southern Somalia, much better”. The Secretary-General also stated that “the United Nations personal had attempted to reach Hargeisa, but were unable to do so due to some adverse security situations” According the sources close to the Somaliland government, the failure of the Secretary-General to mention that his own personal envoy to Somaliland and Somalia was recently in Hargeisa for consultations with the Somaliland government is unfortunate. These sources also stated that the issue of Las Anod has been resolved, and the town and its environs are currently under Somaliland administration. "According to the Sub-Saharan Informer, the Somaliland Foreign Ministry have described as “unfortunate the report given to the UN Security Council as it pertains the security situation in Somaliland which has no connections with the reality on the ground. The reality is that the security situation in Somaliland is not fragile and is not comparable to the situation in Somalia. Since 1991 the people of Somaliland have enjoyed peace and security, whilst at the same time building the foundations for a democratic and just society.” The Somaliland Foreign ministry communiqué, according the Sub-Saharan Informer, is critical of the UN Secretary-General’s personal envoy to Somaliland and Somalia, Mr. Ahme Ould Abdallah for neglecting to inform the Secretary-General of the recent visit to Somaliland and the discussions that took place regarding the Somaliland issue.” Source Geeska Afrika.

  4. Nothing is coming on a golden plates sxb ,,, one have to struggle not only 17 years but 17 centuries to gain what they want. It is a matter of patience and not giving up that matters. The mission started somewhere from 1981 until now going through different stages and policies. I'm glad it is at the best now. There are still more things to do before the recognition and the tough part will come after the recognition IA.
  5. A Leavenworth substitute teacher accused of unlawful sexual relationships with high school students is a Somalian refugee in the United States under political asylum, officials said Thursday. Mohamed A. Dirshe, 26, has been charged in Leavenworth County District Court with three counts of unlawful sexual relations and three counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor for illicit purposes, which are all felonies. Dirshe is accused of inviting two 16-year-old male students to his home and giving them alcohol. He then allegedly had sexual relations with them while they were under the influence, said Leavenworth’s interim Police chief, Patrick Kitchens. The incidents, which allegedly occurred between Oct. 19 and Dec. 30, involved students from Immaculata High School and Leavenworth High School. Dirshe also had been a substitute teacher for one day at West Middle School and at New Beginnings, a special education facility, according to a school official. Word of the charges surprised people who knew Dirshe when he attended the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth. Dirshe, who graduated last May with a bachelor’s degree in information technology, also played on the men’s basketball team. He attended the school on a scholarship, said Bob Uhlar, a public relations specialist for the university. Dirshe was well-liked by other students, though he was kind of quiet. Those who knew him said there was no indication that he was capable of this type of behavior, Uhlar said. Dirshe has a remarkable story, Uhlar said. At the age of 9, he witnessed the murder of his father, uncle and older brother outside his home in Somalia by militia men from a rival clan, according to an article in the winter 2005 edition of Aspire, the university’s alumni magazine. In 1996, when he was 14, his mother forced him to flee to Kenya, according to the article. “I was getting older and the chance of me getting hurt or getting killed was high,” he told a reporter for Aspire. “My mom didn’t want that.” Dirshe lived there as a refugee for a couple of years before his uncle made arrangements for him to flee to the United States. Police first became aware of the alleged incidents when officials from the Catholic school system alerted them. Dirshe was arrested March 17 and remained in Leavenworth County Jail on Thursday on a $100,000 bond. His next court appearance is today. Officials with the Leavenworth Regional Catholic Schools could not be reached for comment Thursday. Police are investigating whether there were more victims.
  6. A man who claimed to be the tallest man on the planet has failed to take the title - but he does have the world's biggest hands. Hussain Bisad, an asylum seeker from Neasden, north-west London, was aiming to take the world's tallest man title away from the current holder Tunisian Radhouane Charbib, who stands at 7ft 8.9ins tall. A spokesman for Guinness World Records said: "We are recognising his height as being 7ft 7.5ins, which means he is the tallest Somalian and the second tallest man in the world. "He also has the biggest hand span of any living man." Special measurements Guinness is also looking into the possibility that the difference in height between Mr Bisad and his twin sister Khardra, who is about 5ft 5ins, is a world record. The Somalian was measured using a standard procedure for recording official heights which involves taking six measurements during a single day and then finding the average. This is because people are at a different height when they wake up from when they go back to bed. The 27-year-old Somalian, who has been living in London since last year, has size 26 feet, weighs 33 stone and has to sleep in a nine-feet long bed. Doctors have, however, expressed concerns about Mr Bisad's health, especially if he is still growing. Mr Bisad came to the UK as an asylum seeker after robbers shot him in the knee in Somalia. He travelled by lorry to Ethiopia before getting on a plane to the UK, where airline staff had to allocate him two seats. The Home Office has now given him permission to stay in Britain indefinitely because he is deemed a legitimate asylum seeker. The world's tallest ever man was American Robert Wadlow, who died in 1940, at 8ft 11ins. Source BBC News
