For benefit of this conversation, I think we should not lump all Somalis together. The diaspora and people in the old country should be treated differently. And let's put things in perspective and within context!!

lool@raula....SOL has become center for grown men with too much sensitivities and not good kind. The poster is pissed at me for my actions in another thread where I merely questioned the relevance of news article he posted. I felt the excitement shown by him wasn't proportional to the actual weigh, importance or relevance of the article. Now MMA will be condemned for saying some of the people on the list are not great:D

A Mogadishu Rape Victim Finds Hope in Minnesota
Che -Guevara replied to Che -Guevara's topic in General
Good to know- God bless Maxaay and all those that helped. Help us nominate one of the very few Somalis who positively impacted people's lives. We need 2000 votes. Please help us to nominate Mr Abdiaziz Maahaay for CNN Hero Nomination: http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/cnn.heroes/2012.nom/ We need at least two thousand people to send this nomination. When you complete the nomination choose 'I have completed'. Bio Mr Abdiaziz Maahaay: Abdiaziiz Maahay, aged 42, is the founder and the current executive director of Somali American Healthcare Foundation (SOMCARE). This is a non-profit organization that started with heart touching incident in 2/19/2006 of M.M. who was a 7 year old Somali girl who was a gang rape victim which destroyed her life both physically and emotionally... Maahaay and his wife were touched by this heart-breaking news which they read in Hiiraan online (a Somali owned website). They immediately took action by contacting people and organizations around Minnesota- luckily Mayo Clinic took the initiative to sponsor M.M, with the help of other organizations, individuals, US senator and hospitals like University of Minnesota which helped B.M. who had developed a huge tumor on her mouth which made her unable to eat and speak. The next served case was Mohamed a 2 year old boy who was born with bladder exstrophy for which he got a medical service at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. One of the major challenges that Maahaay faced was to bring a conjoined twins whose situation had no hope in life due to inadequate medical facilities and due to unskilled doctors to help with this kind of problem in Kenya. Fortunately, with the help of SOMCARE they were brought to Mayo clinic which sponsored the medical need of the conjoined twins. Not only did SOMCARE lend hand to these individuals but it opened its way to many others that had no hope in life. In addition to that SOMCARE had succeeded to medically evacuate 210 patients to Nairobi, Kenya for medical treatment. Here is the link and the sources of the stories for the work Maahaay has done Please note when you are sending the nomination use the links below. 1- CNN interview in Mogadishu Somalia 2- Mayo Clinic helps for Somali Children.MSNBC Rochester Minnesota KTTC TV MSNBC Rochester Minnesota KTTC TV 3- The medical supplies from USA to Somalia 4- The medical project in Kenya. A Mogadishu Rape Victim Finds Hope in Minnesota

By Abdirahman Aynte Fellow, The Center for Independent Media Rochester, MN (HOL)- Just six months ago, Murayo Nur Ali was told that she has no hope to be treated from a severe injury she sustained during a gang-rape at age seven. That was in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia. But on Monday, she was full of hope as she stepped out of a private jet that flew her to Rochester for treatment at Mayo Clinic. Though Ali is 11, she looks more like half of that. Gaunt yet playful, she has the signs of languish in her wide eyes. Yet she manages to smile as she strides through dozens of people who waved encouraging signs and flowers at the Rochester International Airport. One sign read “the bad part is over.” It’s exactly the message that the couple who sponsored Ali wanted to send her. The Rochester pair, Abdi and Zahra, who wouldn’t give their last names because they didn’t want to be overwhelmed with all those in need, didn’t know Ali until they read her story on a Somali website. “We couldn’t sleep the night we saw [Ali] on the internet,” said Abdi, who began to mobilize a network of people and organizations to help Ali. “She’s just like my three-year-old daughter.” Severe Injury Ali was only seven when thugs kidnapped her near her family’s home in Mogadishu. She was going to a nearby grocery shop to buy cooking oil. “Before you reach the shop, you will have to pass some old buildings which were ruined in the civil war,” read a statement from her father, recounting the events of that fateful March morning in 2002. “After [she was] away for 30 minutes…., I heard screaming…I stood up and went outside to see the situation. Immediately, I found some people carrying up my daughter bleeding…” The Somali doctor who examined Ali said in a statement that “her genital organ and rectum was extraordinarily opened up beyond recognition.” She uses diapers until now. http://www.hiiraan.com/news2/2006/feb/a_mogadishu_rape_victim_finds_hope_in_minnesota.aspx

Chubacka.....As long as you don't start charging us for listening to your ideas:-) I wonder if two Somalis actually met on these Muslim singles sites or do the Somalis on these sites avoid each other like plaque?
