  1. Today's event was about commercial interest regarding a contract involving Puntland Development Group, an entity contracted by UAE to provide supplies to PMPF which is basically funded and run by the Emirates. The militia was led by Ciise Yulux who felt that he was left out of the contract. It really has nothing to do with redressing reer Bari grievances. A man like Ciise merely uses clan grievances to further his personal interest. But there's a larger problem in terms of governance. Puntland is at the same place since its creation in terms of political space. Some clans feel left out and the actual election process is corrupt. The man with the most money wins. As it regards to reer Bari, the argument is about resource allocation. They claim that they don't get their fair share as it relates to revenue collected from Bosaso port. But the reality is the port generates revenue because many Somalis that ain't from Bari use it. Without other Somalis, the port wouldn't generate that much. In the overall economic situation, reer Bari are not in any worse situation than reer Mudug. In fact, one can argue Mudug gets the least attention. Like the rest of Somalia, Puntland is stagnant. And without a new creative innovation, I don't see it getting better. And lastly, everything the UAE touches dies, it is time for them to leave.
  2. I met Sharif and spent time talking with him when he was in Boston. He didn't seem like rash person. This seems like a different person and politically immature.
  3. I remember it perfectly. We lived in Yaaqshiid, about couple of miles from Hotel Guurguute when the war started on the outskirts of Xamar. I remember what neighbors to other neighbors. I am merely referring to the nature of the killings. Somalis mostly shot each other or killed madfac, it was rare to see someone being hacked, burned, mutilated, genitals cut off, etc.
  4. Sad to see my dad/grandfather's hometown underwater. Donate if you can; we need longterm solutions.
  5. I hate to pile on Suldaanka but dude was saying in another post reer Awdal weey kibreen as if that community are guests in their own homes or owe Hargeysa anything.
  6. The emerging narrative is, nationalist Oromoo calling Amhara colonial settlers and Amhara calling Oromoo ultra-nationalists/Muslim extremists. The Tigray are watching from distance.
  7. I don't think they should get extensions. It just sets bad precedents. It didn't work well with Siilaanyo and Faroole tried to do that, Besides, if they were serious enough, Farmaajo and Kheyr could have completed the constitution by now among other things. Get a real multiparty system and end the evil 4.5 formula.
  8. Yes, they have murdered many people. In the last few days, while they play the victim in Adama and other places, their mobs were hacking people as well. They are killing minorities in Amhara but unfortunately for them, they are more Amharas living among other communities.
  9. Galbeedi, I don't know what talks about but the scenario is unlikely and it would actually be bad for Somalia. Farmaajo and Kheyr made many mistakes but the government itself has been stable. We can debate their achievements but I hate to see the days of Prime-Minister vs President days. Let's hope they finish the term together.
  10. Am I the only surprised by gruesome nature of the violence perpetrated by Oromo and Amhara mobs? Don't we get wrong we Somalis are violent but some of the things done by Amhara and Oromo are amazingly grisly by any standards.
  11. That says a lot about your attitude towards the good people of Borame.

  15. I have a friend who went to Borame. He noted that it is one of the diverse cities in Somalia. According to him, you can literally find a Somali from every Somali region.
