  2. Who is Ayaan Ali? Do you mean Hirsi? All criticism (even from Rushdie) can be turned into good contructive criticism. Muslimwakeup is an interesting site, specially when you consider that one of the founders is an agnostic  He's a brilliant man, who's done a lot for arab-americans, but why start an islamic site all of the sudden? ... By the way, just a recomendation (if you can find the link, I can't) an interview with Salman, where Irshad interviews him.

You go girlfriend. Ilaaheey ha kuu fududeeyo.
  4. Arab. Muslim. Islam. Arab. Woman. Opressed. Sex. I dont know about you guys, but my "Uncle Tom Pornography" alert is on high. She's pushing all the buttons, all but one, she claims she's a muslim. Good for her. As to her book, I'm waiting for a friend to finish reading it (yes, I'm so broke right now). She tells me that it's bordeline "okey", except for all the "sex-parts".
  5. Hibo: Yupp, ur a freak allright  *kidding* I'm all for pampering. I always put on my escada before I sleep tight. If you dont look after urself, who will.

[/QB] No actually, you can be non-somali, but still have roots in Somalia that extend back for centuries. That's what's commonly reffered to "carab isku dhajis"..you know "carab aa ahay" Just be glad you haven't met one of those confused souls yet. OLOL, OK, tribalism is a primitive ideology that isn't very successful in our world. When Siyaad Barre (ala ya Raxma) started to mess with qabyaalad, and proposed that we would start calling eachother "comrades" instead of "ina abti/adeer" is when things started to look bad for the poor dictator. You see, he violated the first rule of opportunism - you give the ppl what they think they want. So if the ppl want to adhere to a bilogical doctrine as their main religion, then let them! Give them their peice of desert land, and their very own clan-flag, and they will be over the top. Just a tip for all you future dictators of Somalia
  9. Some of Makka's most historic sites, possibly including a home of the Prophet Muhammad, are under threat from Saudi real estate developers and an influential Muslim group that view them as promoting idolatry. "They (Wahhabis) have not allowed preservation of old buildings, especially those related to the prophet. They fear other Muslims will come to see these buildings as blessed and this could lead to polytheism and idolatry." And listen to this.. Angawi, who founded the Haj Research Centre in 1975 to study and preserve Makka's and Medina's rich history, claims to have identified a home of Muhammad. But he is reluctant to publicise its location, fearing it would be demolished like Dar al-Arqam - the first school in Islam where the prophet taught. http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/A72A6C88-0492-4803-90AD-FC69482A6D56.htm Even thought I am against it, I have to admit that the so called "wahabbis" have a point on this issue.

Anyone that displays their behind will be escorted to the door and ushered out urgently. Are you kidding me? Niikiska is the BEST part. Everything else sucks. The "live" music is always way too loud..the weddings end way too late (forget taking a cab home..take the early bus), the food sucks..and all the brothas look like they just came from the nearest refugee camp (and I swear, in my town, most of them do).. so please, usher someone else out. tanks

Modesty and Jaz, have you two tried timo-jilciso? Or did you just hear it from friends? My sister uses timo-jilciso (she has a different hait type) and her hair grows fast, and looks healthy. oh and go to the hairdresser once a month and get them to treat it for you; just wash, condition, steam and trim; it does wonders; believe me; mmhhm, tell me about it.

What do you mean Z., that you followed directions but kept it in your hair less time than ur supposed to? Can you still make your hair curly?

So.. Exactly how do you tame your hair? My problem is this: after I've blow-dried my hair, and it's all straight and nice..five minutes outdoors and it starts to curl! Nothing seems to help. The last thing I want to do is timo-jilciso. My friend tells me to use the one for kids, but the problem is that my hair is curly, not rough, I'm afraid loose half of it (has anyone tried timo-jilciso for kids, what's ur experience?). So I always braid my hair, or I use mousse. WHAT DO U GIRLS DO TO KEEP UR HAIR STRAIGHT? Any good products I haven't heard of? Any good home cures? Anything? Danke.
  18. Zulfa, I'm happy to read ur post. MashLah, I can only agree with u girl. I hope u'll e-mail Oprah.

  20. Dawaco, I hear what you are saying, I almost had to kick someones *** to get my xalwo, but still, how come the white relatives got the food without even leaving their seats? And also, like someone said, judaism is not(like certain branches of) zionism. Rudy..I didn't see any faraxs in there..which is even more annoying. All the sheekh been been all the sudden didn't mind white dude (one in particular, looked drunk) running around in the kitchen. And to your Q, ma waxaa ka wadaa someone as black as you? Ofleh, if only I had courage enough to do what you say. I suppose as a bystander, I was no better. Afrosomali..I think the guys black relatives were muslims.
  21. Why are we somalis such racists? Sometimes it feels like even the dumbest of the rednecks are more civilized. I've been annoyed all day, mainly over two things. Yesterday, I was at a distant friends wedding. The guy she was marrying was half black half white. So during the wedding, his white relatives were mingling around, and ppl were friendly to them. A woman who lives near me even yelled at her daughter (gorgeous, mashLah) and introduced her to one of the grooms white relatives. She was like: naaya imoow!. And then she turns to the white guy and says "this is my daughter". Meanwhile, the grooms black relatives (the were really dark) sat at the enterence, they never once left "their spot". When the food was given out, no one brought them bariis and kimis..no one spoke to them. Walahi I didn't even see them on the actual dancing floor or anything, whilst the white ppl were getting their groove on to "woow woow". It was like the embodiment of white supremacy and black inferiority..in on room, you could see the answer to everything that in wrong with Somalia. And the other thing..today, whilst out waiting for the bus, I saw another somali neighbour. As always when Israel is brought up, she started talking about jewish conspiracies..I was like, uhum, what's new in the somali universe  But the thing that really made me go mad was when she said "yuhuuda waa nacbahay"..I mean naceeb..like hate....??! How could you claim to hate an entire ethnicity? And what makes your claim more rightous than that of the KKK when they say that you're worthless..the Quran?? What's wrong with us??
  22. I dont think the nigerian vaccine was contaminated. I mean, tests were carried out by nigerian scientists to prove the safety of the vaccine. There were very low ammounts (if any) of hormones that were supposed to cause infertily...but on the other hand, weren't HIV the result of a bad polio vaccine?..to my understanding this is a hypothesis layed forward by some scientists. That's to me even worse than infertily. I'm more interested of knowing how the vaccine is manufactured, do they still use monkeys? And also, I was watching a peice about poloio vaccination in Indonesia..the kids were gives the vaccine oraly, which I always thought was "the old" way of vaccinating against polio..I mean, isn't there a (very small) risk of that actually causing polio? Either way, having seen two small kids, suffering from this, it feels like suspicion is not enough to deny vaccinating the poor kids. Who knows, in 60 years or so, there might be news about how the africans were poissened..but without hard evidence..
  23. That's good mashLah. I've seen a couple of somali kids (born during the war) @ work, who suffer from poolio. I wonder if kids were activly vaccinated against it b4 the war? Either way, good news...hope they'll use vaccin from recombinant technic, to save us from yet another tragedy.
  24. Seriously, what is Halal Dating??? It's when you say Bismilah before dating and Alxamdulilah when you finish hehe. Good one.
  25. Nice list..but according to who? Why all these musts? It's a bit like someone is sucking all the 02 from the room. I have to agree with Zepheryne..being a house-wife is almost like slavery to me (and offcourse I realise that this is from a materialistic & patriarchal point of view..). Why put yourself in a situation where you are financially disabled? Most of womens work (worldwide) in the homes is for free. Most young girls (worldwide) spend less time on homework and more time on household work (opposite for boys)..and so on. Why work twice as hard for half the salary? Men are jsut as able to be @ home dads, regardless of what the "uterus feminists" say. And if housewives are employees, who are the employers? And why do they have lousy working conditions? Full salary..and half the power. *amiin*
