  1. Why do the Amerikaans know so little about the world? the world...? what about our own country....there were those embarrassing remarks about the citizenship test taken in the U.S....for several years, people went around asking ordinary people questions you'll find on a typical citizenship test....it was so shameful to see fellow americans not knowing a thing about american history or present day facts about our government...and instead of using these reoccurring incidents as tactics to motivate people to pay more attention to how their government works...they just used it as entertainment...at first i use to think it was funny...but after a while i just felt sorry for those *****s...its all about what we as americans prioritize...and sadly enough, your not going to find many people motivating you to learn "about the world around us"...its all about making our counrty the best, forget everyone else..... ( i know im gonna regret saying that one day, especially if i have dreams to be in congress ).....oh well...i guess this was one of the reasons i decided to change my major to foreign policies
  2. I personally feel that you have the freedom to identify yourself with any group(race, religion, culture)that wish to be associated with.....but I will also tell you that a few people in here made a lot of sense, and it might help to try and really PAY ATTENTION to what they wrote...even though there seems to be this fascination with connecting yourself to certain groups of people b/c of your shared interests....( i admit that i am guilty of that)...but just think about what it would be like if we didnt do that....we cant predict what the world would have been like...but we can have our ideas....

  6. this is a first for me....a guy saying he doesnt find Jennifer Lopez attractive   ...well the one person i always thought was pretty weird( inside and out), but still managed to get some decent lookin gals( and not to mention guys  !)....Dennis Rodman!!!......
  7. I'm well aware of that, but thanks for being so kind as to direct me to look over it once more. There's really nothing like being told what you already know do i sense some sarcasm....lol Is that you way of saying let's bury the hatchet? I guess i was being a bit muddled there too huh?.....well anyways, yes that is my way of saying that..so how about we just let bygons be bygons
  8. I realize that you declared our so called "nit-picking over, but i just had the sudden urge to clarify a few things..... hmmm let see now; lets not bicker, but argue is what your trying to convey or maybe I'm reading you wrong. After all what you did say was very muddled about. I apologize for not being CLEAR in my last post.....when i said that there was no use in us "bickering over it", i was referring to the mistake I made on my part when I confused the word “preference” and the phrase about “stating something is better, or one is uglier than the other”…saying that both the word and the phrase had no relation whatsoever……but that was it…I still wanted to “nit-pick” on a few other things( well actually just one thing!), which is why I also said” going back to what you said”….so if it did seem like I was bickering, arguing, challenging, nit picking…ETC, I was…but for now I could further challenge and maybe in due time I will, but for now I think we agreed to disagree. End of discussion. I see no use in a“further challenge” …….
  9. >"Lets get married so I dont have to lower my gaze everytime you walk in the room" LOL,that was so cute

No, there isn't think long and hard on it...its the same thing That's the beauty of preference. When someone has a preference for something they usaully think its better than whatever is the competition. OR certain names are just plain ugly preference is apart of opinion. You seem like a smart person so no need to explain Your absolutely right.....that was a mistake on my part....so no use in bickering over that anymore....but going back to what you said earlier about Entreprenuer not saying anything "bad" about the arabic names......i guess its just me then...but calling my name( whether its "endangered" or not), and over half of my relatives names "ugly" is pretty objectionable...but like i said, i guess its just me  ....and merely advising Entreprenuer that "maybe he shouldnt be so quick to down-play" these "old & traditional" names, shouldnt be as repugnant on your part......... but no hard feelings, like you said...everyone is entitled tp their opinion...or in this case "preference"

  14. It is simply a woman's assertion that judgment of her physical person is to play no role whatsoever in social interaction. Wearing the hijab has given me freedom from constant attention to my physical self. Because my appearance is not subjected to public scrutiny, my beauty, or perhaps lack of it, has been removed from the realm of what can legitimately be discussed. I get so sick and tired of hearing people correlating "the wearing of the hijab" to oppression, or anything else silly....if only these one-sided ignorant fools would read this article, they would understand what it REALLY REPRESENTS.....kudos to the woman who wrote this article...
  15. Some people canbe really ignorant....i think this "author" really let their emotions get the best of them this time....im not disagreeing with the argument as a whole...but there were some ridicules comments posted...like the whole SARS thing being developed by the "U.S." as a poltical tactic to end tourism...how ridicules is that....everyone knows that the SARS case were discovered in ASIA...so for anyone to say that it was created by the U.S......my goodness....and this comment... Next up for man made diseases being used as political chess: Monkeypox. As if at some point even in the most farfetched situation... monkeys have come across or possibly mated with midwestern animals? Right It was reported not to long ago that this disease came from prairie dogs....dont ask me why they called it what they did......but i cant even write anymore....this is just ridicules

  22. I know this topics about three months old...but i guess i just wanted to point out that i really enjoyed my stay in Toronto....especially the weather...yeah i know some of you are like WHAT! ...well i grew up in chicago so im used to the snow and the 20-30 degree below zero weather....and even thought atlanta isnt all that bad of a city, i still miss the snow ball fighting and the snow angels ...but anyways, the reason i brought this topic back up was, im going to Toronto for the carribanna festival, and im wondering if the city's thinking about postponing it b/c of the whole SAR's thing...im getting tired of hearing all these different stories about them "still having it" or" the whole SARS thing is freaking ppl out and they might cancel the carribanna thing this year"...so if anyone knows the answer to this, let me know, so i dont waste my time and money.....
  23. I thought it was posts like this that the admistrators specifically said not to POST????....  im not hatin or anything, but i guess im getting a little tired of hearing about the whole "we should say what we want to say...freedom of speech and all that other good stuff"...they created this place, and so they have the right to make whatever rules they want....you dont like it, then tough toenails...just stop whining about it

I don't mind having an arabic first name but a somali surname would definately be a welcome thing. Better??Well i guess thats your opinion ...To be honest I find the arabic names and to a certain extent the so called muslim names "very ugly" but that is my judgement. UGLY!!![b/]...well maybe your just talking about a few of those other muslim names....speaking of muslim, why are you guys referring to the arabic or the other non-descending somali names as the "muslim names"...what doesnt make somali names muslim?? Originally posted by Entrepreneur: If only you knew the meaning of some name, you wouldn't have said they were "nasty"! well im pretty sure you know the names of some of arabic ones....but maybe if you paid a little more attention to them, you wouldnt have said they were UGLY as well..... im only being a bit defensive here b/c my name is arabic, and though i admire your love for the somalian names...dont put other names down....though they may not have originated in Somalia, like my name, they were adopted by the somalians, and other nationalities as well.....especially my name...this white girl i knew a couple of years ago had my name, though it wasnt spelled the same...but her mother loved the name and gave it to her daugter....but anyways, dont be so quick to knock-down those ( what do u call them..) "muslim names"
