    Writing a book

Congrats Ibtisam!!! May Allah swt make it easy for you and your book a success inshaAllah! I think I'm speaking for many a SOLer when I say we're rooting for you. Also much success with your journal articles.

  4. A farah once told me he had planned for us to get married (don't you just love it when people paint pictures in their head). When I told him that that would unfortunately never happen, he shed a tear. It reassured me I had made the right decision. Bluelicious, stop trying to convince men crying is OK! It either makes people feel uncomfortable or being manipulated. Having said that, I personally do have one exception to the rule: men who cry out of love for Allah/mother or for the plight of poor orphans/street children. That's enough to melt any Jarvik 7 away.
  5. Being late. Unfortunately I myself am one of those people who're always running late. It's irritating and irresponsible. If anyone has any advice on how to overcome this terrible flaw, I'd be happy to hear. Long phone calls. I'd like to get to the point without 30min of (un)necessary idle chitchat. In an ideal world if I (or my friend) wished to talk for longer, we'd meet face-to-face over lunch or coffee... Speaking of food, indecision especially when ordering food is annoying. While we're at it, talking loudly or laughing loud in public places is also irritating. Unfortunately I myself am guilty of having a semi-loud laughter (though I try to contain it in public)

Totally just kidding, but it would be funny if some hack Rethuglican blogger picked up on this thread and took my first sentence. They'd be saying, "its an open secret on Muslim majority forums that Obama is a Muslim", and tons of bigoted sheep would believe it. +1 I'm actually much more sympathetic to Mitt Romney than Obama this election year. This steams from a deep sense of disappointment. Hold on a minute-- why do I care?

Parents can not force on their daughter a man she isn't happy with, and those girls who fall for the duca and habaar walahi they need to wake up. Hoyadaa habaarkeeda iyo abaha way kacayaan, but not in this situation. Ilaahay wa caadil. Yeah... It could be they are more afraid of being disowned. Aaliyyah;864628 wrote: Moving on from that I think it is extremely important how you met your future spouse, I think it plays a key role in how your marriage will play out. And when I say wedding, I don't mean you met a guy at a family wedding through your family or friends. I was talking about a random man chit chating a random girl in the hallway lol "hey pretty I saw your smile across the hallway I couldn't help it you have the most beautiful smile" balh blah iyo wixi la halmaala. Usually random guys chit chating random girls it translates that he probably gave his number to million other chicks in the same wedding. That's why there's huge divorce rate when people meet in that manner. She hardly knows him, and he hardly know her or her family. dariiqaas uu ka helay dariiqaas haduu kaga dhaqaaqona dee waa wax suurtoowda . lol you sound like habar waayeel Seriously though, most people hardly know each other when they start to get to know each other. I guess this is a personal preference. I think wherever you are is fine and you should be open to the idea of meeting someone, because lets face it, you are already there. Like attracts like. I have a lot of opinions on this subject but don't know enough about this area of life. I'll probably end up laughing at my comments/ideas in a couple of years, so I'm just going to be quiet for now . I can say however, that I completely agree with you on the sleazy men. But, I think people should be wary about where they meet someone. I think I've said this to you before, but I do have a single brother... *cough* He's a young, handsome *cough*, entrepreneur - I'm not even kidding. (Everybody in my family is kind of fabulous, except for me). Anyway, you're such a sweetheart. *cough* Anybody have cough medicine? This cold...

Ciyaala kudaaf ayaa inta badan aroosyada ka qaraabta (and I am mainly insulting the males..the girls are just naive and manipulated) ..For the most part when a girl meets a guy in a wedding or a party that relationship doesn't flourish to anything serious. And if they do actually get married which is rarity it is short-term wedding, they are divorced the next summer. When you start a relationship at the wrong foot Allah swt will not bless it. I'm not sure I agree with this, Aaliyah. There are those who were given two options: duca ama habaar and who instead of packing their belongings and sneaking out of the house in the middle of the night, chose 'duco' and agreed to marry odaw familka ka mid ahaa, oo laakin uultimada ka shalaayeen. I also know people who met at weddings who are happily married (of course neither of us knows what can happen in two years time). Life isn't always so black and white. I don't know why people divorce, but I doubt it's because of where they met: I'd say it has more to do with lack of effective communication between the husband & wife.

You know what Chimera, I actually loved Avatar. It was a great cinematic experience and I'll probably always remember seeing it for the first time - something I can't say for too many films. I ended up seeing it several times in IMAX and it was always as beautiful. Then I bought the DVD/Blueray box and couldn't watch it at home. It just wasn't the same. For me, Avatar is a film that only works in the cinema. But that's not what you want out of films. Avengers was a lot of fun. Joss Whedon is a fun writer (have you seen Cabin in the Woods? I hate horror but that's another hilarious gem). Speaking of funny films, have you seen Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter? It's so unintentionally funny, I haven't laughed so hard in a while. Pure unintentional comedy gold. (there's a fight/chase scene where the bad guy throws a horse at Abe Lincoln whilst they're running on top of horses, you gotta see it )

Hopefully, the tech should be amazing this time round. They see me trollin'.... On another note, Hobbit is probably not going to look good. It's shot in 48 fps. Let me explain: the standard frame rate for films is 24 fps (frames per second), with the Hobbit it's twice the frame rate which ends up giving the film a video-style appearance. It won't look like a "proper" film. It'll probably work with aerial scenic shots but not with scenes with actors (the intense clarity of costumes and sets are going to destroy the illusion, the spell of film) because naturally there is a blur, your eyes don't take in every detail as you watch. When the frame rate is at 48 fps the video is forcing your brain to see and process more than it normally would and the movie will end up looking 'wrong'. I was watching a quite violent ganster film. Then, all of a sudden, I saw my hand reaching for the remote controller. Then I watched as my finger pressed the off switch. I realized what I had done. I had turned the TV off. I had turned the film off because it was violent. I'm becoming my mother. *sobs* Gone are the days when I would want to watch films like these... Actually I've seen them all except for "Pusher".

    Writing a book

Chimera, I have to confess that I'm not entirely a first-timer, but kind of. The publishing house had already published a short story of mine. So there were existing relations. However, I haven't actually written the book yet. I was kind of thinking I could go in, pitch them my super-awesome-mega-bucks idea and leave the conference room with a million euro publishing contract in my pocket; throw a bif fat Somali xaflad in my honor and flee to Cuba the next day with the money. Alas, the plan didn't quite come together the way I had envisioned… Anyway, I can share a very short synopsis with those who are interested. Shoot me a private message. Chimera, if you need someone to read your manuscript and give you pro feedback, I'd be happy to do so. I've worked as a reader. I know it's not very chic, but a girl's gotta learn and no better way of learning what works and what doesn't than reading both aspiring and working writers' text.
