This initiative is designed to make a contribution to the rebuilding of a stable and prosperous Somalia and, in so doing, reduce the risk of piracy to seafarers transiting the Indian Ocean. Each company will contribute around US$500,000 over a period of two years. Grahaeme Henderson, Head of Shell Shipping, said today, “Ending piracy lies in part in helping the people of Somalia, and providing education and alternative livelihoods. Shell is proud to have contributed to the broader counter-piracy effort. We very much hope that others in industry will join us.” “Piracy is a problem at sea, which must be addressed by the international community, and requires a long-term sustainable solution on land. We are willing to contribute to the solution, which is why Maersk supports this initiative,” said Hanne B. Sorensen, CEO of Maersk Tankers, on behalf of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group. John Ridgway, Chief Executive of BP Shipping said: “This is a major issue which affects the safety and security of people working in global trade. We are pleased to support this initiative which will provide material help and opportunities for communities in the region.” The announcement coincides with the London Conference on Somalia being held today (23rd February) and hosted by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon David Cameron MP. Leaders from more than 50 countries and international organisations are focussing on seven key issues, including terrorism, piracy, humanitarian assistance and, crucially, what Somalis could do after the transitional government’s mandate expires in August. http://www.maersknews.com/?p=1705 These companies are helping, out of love for the Somali people...

  5. It has no even been a week. It's only Monday for heaven sake. Also if we go by the news conference, with the Oil, it has been a great week thus far.
  6. I see General Ilkajiir, Abdulkadir Ali Hashi, Juxa and Ali Abdullahi Warsame. Reer London staged a nice event.
  7. Wonderful stuff. Beautiful Bosaso may you prospour ever more.

  9. The Oil is a much sought after commodity, thus it will be those who want it who will forke out the necessary equipment and infrastructure to get it out to the world markets. You don't need to read a book look at the deserts that where Riyadh, Dubai, Doxa and Bahrain. Thus no matter how you spin it and no matter how much you get upset. The world is now interested in Somalia and rushing to show their support because we have something valuable they need. Also it's already being drilled and the equipment, millions of dollars worth is already there.
  10. Stop hating maan. The day a barrel is taken out it's game set and match for Somalia being a plaything to anyone. Oil is the worlds opium and we shall help with getting the planet it's fix.
  11. Who wants a free lunch? We are offering them what the Arabs have been doing. It's not magic Adeer, it's business.
  12. Calm down people. Things are going in the right direction. I'd we have 20 billion or 100 billion barrels it matters not. This is the begging of the transformation of Somalia as a whole and Puntland has every right to be proud ofthe hard work that it has done. Insha Allah Khair.
  13. It was always clear to all of us and the world who Al Shabaab were and this militia were part of Al Shabaab. It's time that we stopped this menace where ever it may raise it's head. Its a clear vindication for the admins action against this group.
  14. Lool @ Xaji, even though Osman talks a great deal of game. You know Puntland will not secede and will help all Somali's when the time comes. Even the brothers in Hargaysa-Burco-Berbera triangle will receive some stipends from the Oil money. Don't worry from Zaylac to Ras Kamboni every will get some love from the Puntland heart.
  15. It's all a desperate move. In the past we have told you Al Shabaab were Al Qaeda and that those fighting in Galgala were part of Al Shabaab. Now in the clear light of day you have Al Shabaab coming out and those who used to fight in Galgala also coming out. Now where is he argument about defending sub clan interest and resources? It was all bull. This was Al Qaaeda and the aim was to terrorize the people of the NE as a whole regardless of clan. It would be important if people understand who or what they support instead o being blinded by clan envy.
  16. Osman it seems you are confusing yourself. In one instance you are talking about a unified Kurdistan which does not exist, divided into four nations and with different sects example Alavi's, Sunnis and so on. Yet you are treating Puntland which is NE Somalia as a different from other Somali's when there is no real difference. Puntland is part of Somalia and it is richer in every way because it is part of Somalia. You really need to get better arguments than this, also quantity is not quality.
  17. When did Iraq Kirdistan region get a 30 million population ? Also Puntland is not a separate entity or nation but a State of Somalia. Also let's wait for the results of the Oil findings and wish that it is large and that other parts of Somalia also have large reserves of Hydracarbons and minerals. The future is bright, it's blue & white.
  18. Nassir a permanent and fair government is in the interest of all Somali's. As for Ethiopia it never was a big deal to begin with and as big players like Turkey their becong even less relevant. Lets keep our eye on the ball. The end of the transition.
  19. It's great news if Zenawi is upset at the outcome. He will hate the Istanbul conference in June even more.

  21. I remember clearly Cameron mentioning that " this is the first time that all the Presidents of Somalia regions are in attendance". That was telling and you can review the video of the PM opening remarks.
