  1. Breaking news Suicide car bomb hits Mogadishu+heavy casualties. Car bomb hits official convoy in Somali capital-witness ReutersReuters – Reuters/Reuters - A Somali soldier runs near the scene of a deadly blast in Mogadishu April 14, 2013. At least 16 people were killed as two car bombs exploded outside the law courts in Somalia's capital Mogadishu …more MOGADISHU (Reuters) - A car bomb exploded at a busy road junction in the centre of the Somali capital on Sunday, apparently targeting a convoy of vehicles carrying officials, witnesses said. A Reuters photographer said he could see three people lying motionless near the wreckage of four burning cars. There was no immediate claim of responsibility but the attack bore the hallmarks of al Qaeda-linked insurgents who have kept up a campaign of guerrilla-style bombings and killings since they were pushed out of the capital under military pressure. "A car bomb hit a convoy of official cars as they passed through the 'Kilometre 4' junction," shopkeeper Ibrahim Hussein told Reuters. Gunfire rang out in the Kilometre 4 neighbourhood, Mogadishu's commercial and administrative hub, immediately after the blast. The Turkish Embassy is located about 100 metres from the blast site.
  2. Naxar we yet have to see, if you closely observe the Somali peninsula it looks like the people and the political leaders are not ready for federalism. The transitional federal government was introduced in 2003, and so far we have one working federal state Puntland ,and even they are operating as an autonomous state sometimes competing with the federal government. The rest seems to be not ready. Galmudug failed to bring on board ximan iyo xeeb , and hiiraan does not want to be under galguduud, And it wants to be 2 regions these are the realities on the ground. The Jubbaland conference causes lots of controversy even between the said so called stake holders Gedo and the other clans of Jubbaland. And the government is not even supporting the conference and is calling it an illegitimate and ill influenced project. So where do we go from here Hassan has been in office and it seems that we will not see existing federal states with their institutions intact when hassans terms end in 3 years time. I think they will put it into referendum the whole constitution and then lets see if people want it or not. But so far no progress was made on federalism in Somalia.
  3. ^^ Naxar the central regions galguduud mudug and hiiraan have a hard time accepting the federalism notion of 2 regions or more. We are even having the debate to divide Hiiraan into 2 regions. Also there are many tribes for instance in the Jubbaland formation when we are hearing the noise of smaller tribes saying that they are being dominated against their will. Federalism is not bad but the regions should be mixed. As for Somaliland i can assure you for them that it means little being part of Somalia means the same to them, under a federalism structure or Confederate or unitary system. Means all the same to them. Naxar i will give you an example Khatumo they want to be part of the union but they don't care whether federalism or unitary system is implemented as long as the union remains intact right or wrong? They share the same views as the rest of Somaliland only they prefer to have a union.
  4. Naxar its not that federalism is a bad governing system but its about how is it going to be implemented certain blocks of Somalia have no interests to support a federal Somalia. Nor are the people of those regions being mobilized to support federalism. And than there is the tribal identity in Somalia where smaller tribes are forced to live under the mercy of the larger tribes under a federal state. As for your question on SL i dont think Somaliland minds a unitary or federal state for them its the same, if they cannot be independent than that is either way a loss for them.
  5. ^^ It is on paper but practically its seems to be hard to be implemented lets see if in 3 years time federalism is still intact
  6. ^^ Carafaat spot on , wa in gudaha lo dhadhaco meeshay ay sarto ka qudhuntay in la taabto oo si wanaagsan runta la isugu sheega. dibu heshisin maha in warlords intay tagan nairobi la yidha warqad sexeexa taasi dibu heshisin maha. You have to bring back the trust between the Somali societies but Somalia elites will never understand that.

  11. Somaliland: Country Urged to Capitalize on the Flexibility of the UK and Danish Governments User Rating: / 6 Friday, 03 May 2013 20:18 "Somaliland should encourage more partner countries to follow the lead of donors such as Denmark and the United Kingdom...." David ShinnAmb David ShinnAmb David Shinn By: Mahmud Walaleye WASHINGTON DC (Somalilandsun) – "Somalia's goal in 1960 to unite all five Somali-inhabited areas in the Horn of Africa under one flag was probably never realistic and is even less so today" This was termed by Amb David Shinn during an exclusive interview with Somalilandsun in which he also said the his take is that though the international community has been reluctant to recognize Somaliland, the governments of Denmark and the United Kingdom, in particular, are being flexible in the economic support they are giving to Somaliland while Turkey has also helped in a variety of ways. Below are the verbatim excerpts of the interview with Amb Shinn conducted by Somalilandsun's Mahmud Walaleye Recently, Somaliland president ended his visit to US, where he met both government and congress delegates as well as businessmen, how do you see this visit would enhance relation between US and Somaliland, would you got chance to meet, if yes what was discussions you had with him? Somaliland has a good reputation in the United States. Visits by its leadership to the United States and meetings with senior officials in the executive branch, Congress and business persons make a positive contribution to the relationship. I had an opportunity to meet President Silanyo in Washington on 22 April at a lunch hosted by the US think Tank, the Atlantic Council. Somaliland has been consistently making dramatic shifts for the past two 22 years. Some fair outside observers have called the rebuilding efforts and the developments that Somaliland has made for these past two decades, mostly with very little or no contribution from outside, "the miracle of Africa". Unfortunately, the UK, with a long historical link with Somaliland and rest of world, has refused to recognize this "African miracle". How do you see? I am reluctant to label any political development in Africa or elsewhere "a miracle." Good governance and peace with neighbors come after a lot of hard work AND COMPROMISE by all concerned parties. Both factors will be necessary as Somalia and Somaliland continue their dialogue. While no government has recognized diplomatically the government of Somaliland, it is my understanding that the governments of Denmark and the United Kingdom, in particular, are being flexible in the economic support they are giving to Somaliland. Turkey has also helped in a variety of ways. Somaliland and Somalia united on the basis of nationalism ideal. Since uniting all the five Somali-populated territories cannot legally and politically happen, by logical extension, the disbanded union of Somaliland and Somalia cannot be pursued legally, politically, and morally. How do you perceive? Somalia's goal in 1960 to unite all five Somali-inhabited areas in the Horn of Africa under one flag was probably never realistic and is even less so today. Djibouti, whose majority Somali population has been independent since 1977, never had any intention of joining a "Greater Somalia" and certainly does not intend to do so now. Neither Kenya nor Ethiopia has ever been inclined to allow its Somali-inhabited regions to join a "Greater Somalia." The passage of time has only hardened their resistance. This leaves only the relationship between Somaliland and Somalia and that will be determined in the coming years by the people and leaders of both Somalia and Somaliland. Lastly, how do you see Somaliland quest of international recognition be retained under current maneuvers? I don't believe recent developments have changed the reluctance of countries to extend diplomatic recognition to Somaliland. Today, it is more important for Somaliland to encourage more partner countries to follow the lead of donors such as Denmark and the United Kingdom to make assistance available on a more flexible basis. It is equally important that Somaliland continue to pursue its generally good record on building democratic rule. 12. Reconciliation will never happen in Somalia reason why is that the elites in Somalia believe everything is fine as long as you wave the blue flag everything is fine. Also the civil war is not over as many of you think.
  13. ^^ There is no record that the people who lived in the region were called Somalis before Islam, we need to find out what the people in the Somali peninsula were called before islam thats one thing.. The other thing is that how did Somalis became Muslims i think in the early stage in the 7th century i think Negashi protection of the sahaba played a role in the conversion of early Somalis to the Islamic faith in the northern Part of the Somali peninsula, All that timur said played a role and the Persian influence in Mogadishu did the same. I think also Somalis before islam had Jewish and Christian believers but people seem to hide that story.
