  1. Im doin Nursing too Nazra and like urself Im in my second year and 19 as well. I must agree wiv Ilhaam dat studyin is gettin harder rather than easier as u go along. Althou in terms of placements it gets easier as u gain knowledge ur competence and confidence increases while workin on de ward as u also get a better understandin of why things are carried out the way they are. I was in a similar situation and really wanted to get married but I thought long and hard, if u look at it, u'll spend de rest of ur life wiv dis person Insha Allah if dat is Allah's will, dere's no point in rushin things (not dat Im sayin u r) If he loves u, which Im sure he does, I bet he'd b willin to wait for u 2 complete ur course. Im sure u've heard de sayin, 'good things comes to those who wait'. Marriage, I believe, is a big step, not necessary a hard one to take but a hard one to keep up wiv. Just like any guy can father a child, it takes a man to bring it up. Any girl can enter a marriage but it takes a tough woman to maintain a healthy and happy marriage & DONT 4GET dats on top of studyin a hectic course which nursin sumtimes can seem like, especially when u get home around 8.30am after an almost 12 hrs shift and is expected to sleep when its practically day-imagine dat wiv kids, essays and exams around de corner too! I believe in de 'where there's will there's a way' theory BUT as a nurse we shud kno addin to de stress factor is not good for us, or de people around us for dat matter. Imagine kids around stressed parents-no good mix. But I also believe dat once u start a job finish it, before takin up another one, dat way u can ensure quality above anythin! Gal at de end of de day its ur choice, no1 but u, truly understands ur situation & all we can do is advice u. So I'd advice u 2 think long and hard, using ur brain & not ur heart. Also walaal dont 4get 2 think of de unexpected. 'Expect de worst and hope for de best' Therefore u shud prepare for the worst! Wateva u decide walaalo, weigh up ur options and do wats right for u, good luck. & let us kno (dats if u want) when ur gona get married.

  3. I agree dat a corpse in dis country mite not be treated wiv de appropriate care and respect dat it deserves & yeah its unfair dat sum organs (if wat u said is true) removed from the corpses durin 'unnecessary' autopsies of ppl of ethnic minorities. But if u think about it, around 1% of ppl of ethnic minorities are organ donors. Howeva a much larger proportion of ethnic ppl require vital organs daily. We expect de NHS to provide us wiv a kidney or a heart but we dont wana giv anythin back. Well I was wonderin if these ppl hav heard de sayin 'u get wat u giv'. So next time an uncle or aunt hav a major operation or even a simple blood test remember it all comes from another person, so wat makes us (ethnic minory ppl) any better than them?? I am not entirely certain about the religious aspects of donatin organs or blood, but wat I do kno is dat as Muslims we hav to do everythin we can in order to maintain the life of another human regardless of their race or creed. As Savin 1 mans life is like savin all of mankind. If any1 else knows more about wat the Holy Quran says about this matter plz share it wiv us all (or PM me) Pearl I agree wiv everythin u've written & sorry for puttin a different angle on de story
  4. I speak Danish (fluently), Somali(quite fluently), German (gettin a bit rusty-havent spoken it for years) and English (fluently) See the difference with me is that I prefer learning the nice words first when it comes to foreign words such as nakupenda sana or nakupenda keshensi (swahili) kunichua [thanx] and nihow [hello](approximate sound spellin-either chinese or japanese) mercy (french), kam hada (arabic-shoppin) and so on. By the way OG-Moti dont dispair ur not de only1 who dont hav a first language mine is either Somali or Danish cant remember how I learnt either of them.
  5. I.e de first pic; none of women on de front hav Somali features except for maybe the lil kid, the only person whom I think look slightly Somali is de woman at de back wiv de scarf on her head. The one wiv de men look even scarier! I mean yeah, maybe they sit a bit like de reer miyi ppl but dats about it, they all look like they've just had an electrical current run through them. Howeva it doesnt mean to say that there werent Somalis around in those days As for de second one (the beauties) come on be realistic! They dont look Somali AT ALL + THE WOMAN is showin her breats (I cud understand if it was de lil girl dat wasnt wearin a top but the women-Hell NO!) and for de clothes they're wearin soo not Somali!

Look Haystak b4 u turn dis whole argument into whether or not ur a coward, think about dis, why wud u run out in de first place?? Aint dat being a coward? I mean u'd hav 2 go out first to decide whether or not u shud in fact help ur family? Why did u turn ur back first time round???? The best option in ur worst case scenario wud be (In my opinion) to go out think things through accept wat has happened and move on unless u become soo stable u believe u can carry out sumthin in there (2 help ur family) u cudnt do b4 u ran away-sumthin like a miracle! Plus remember there's no help for miles & no1 else really cares! Originally posted by LANDER: If southerners were serious about unification, the biggest step they could take towards that goal would be to respect the self-determination rights of somalilanders. I agree wiv dat statement once they accept Somaliland as either a nation or a state or wateva as long as they can say Somaliland is a self-governing institution in its own right dat neednt any assistance from any1 else but themselves, things shud b aight! Insha Allah I pray for dat day but dont get me wrong Im still a great believer of 1 Somalia for Somalis but as any career advisor wud say; Break ur final goal into smaller chunks so u can feel gratification more often! Im out...
  7. mz-alpha-soup well said sis I've always held dis view and hav been frowned upon even when I told my cousins I wasnt gonna hav a wedding when I get married. I mean as ya'll said waste of money and time but I've said all dis before sumwhere else in dis forum but also b'coz of all de dembi associated wiv it I mean I've got enuf why wud I want every guests dembi too?? Plus when u get married u hav completed half of ur religion wat worse way to do it in a hall of zina? Ooh and about de honeymoon I wana go on a round de world trip for about 2 or 3 months & de last destination will be Mecca Insha Allah 2 complete Umrah or Xajj but we both gotta work hard 4 dat to happen. (Any donations wud be welcomed) JK! P.s mz-alpha-soup I kinda like ur nick rather unique eh?
  8. I think 'somalian' is used because many ppl r not familiar with Somalia at all therefore they use wats commonplace, i.e Canadian, Norweigen, Italian, Brazilian, African, American, European, Asian and so on the ending 'an' is used all ova de place whether its to name a country or continent anyhow its caused by differin personal preferences, ignorance, lack of knowledge and understandin- u take u pick (coz it varies from person to person) Personally I prefer Somali it sounds better!
  9. How come hardly no1 has mentioned Xassan Aden Samatar?? He's not only a brilliant singer but a comedian on stage too coz he knows how to entertain his peepz! Mad propz for him. Also Magool I remember hearin her a lot when I was younger! She cool & her voice is truly unique!
  10. I dont kno bout Switzerland but one of my patients said it was nice there but I cudnt figure out whether they were on a high or low at de time so I wouldnt kno whether he was lyin or tellin de truth. Howeva I sooo agree wiv Originally posted by QueenSoccer: 1.Denmark  But,, Originally posted by QueenSoccer: 3.england(ever it rain alot their)   R u 4real?? Nah my friend England--dats a whole different story & I bloody live here so I shud kno! 3.england(ever it rain alot their) [/QB] By the way I was gona say Somalia especially Hargeysa when I first read dis. But I was gona vote for Sweden & Norway too coz Scandanavia is off de hook!

Maybe my gain aint money but rather the happiness of my people! Doin sumthin for them that they otherwise wudnt hav been able to do! Dats my abitions and my reason for studyin! I originally said Originally posted by ExDane: Dont u think dat we are helpin by gainin education & takin it back wiv us? Thanx Baashi dont worry my dreams and hopes of Somalia and Somaliland will neva die! Originally posted by idil: As Ex Dane said yes Somaliland "was betrayed"...but so was the rest of Somalia. Dat is pretty much self-explanatory when Somalia had a DICTATOR & I neva said dat other parts of Somalia wasnt effected but imagine dis.. I hold u and all ur class mates hostage at gunpoint in ur classroom, u manage to escape, wud u stand in de corridor and wait until the rest of them got a chance to escape or wud u keep runnin and get on wiv ur life?? I must say dat a lot of people (not just SOL members) for 1 reason or de other cant stand de name HARGEYSA. (I guess dats their problem) Wat if we said Burco became the new capital instead wud dat change sum minds?? Burco compared to Hargeysa does hav better & bigger road conditions but then again Hargeysa is more known and easily accessible from other cities. Originally posted by zynab: if you want somalia to unite why have hargeisa as the capital. ex-dane dose it have proper roads , electricity,in place. and what goverment are you talking about . please inform me. Zynab sis wat wud u prefer?? Obviously Hargeysa's got roads and electricity. U havent heard of de government there well then I guess u listen to de next Somali BBC coverage or if dats too much of a bother check de other pages here on SOL particularly de Politics section. Originally posted by Ameenah: Somaliland has peace because the people of Somaliland want peace.. True say! But since we hav peace why not try to include de rest of de Somali people and try to help them out a lil? I mean if it doesnt work we can always go back to being Somaliland. I guess de reason why dis whole united Somalia thang is in my head soo much is because I only just recently got used to de term and ideaology of Somaliland when I went there last summer. I grew up lovin all Somalis for being Somali and I guess I always will to de day I die! Howeva I also hav great hopes and dreams for Somaliland.
  12. I dont think there's is sumthin wrong wiv marryin ur first cousin although I'd probably NEVA do it myself. Howeva as Naziha said its haram to marry wivout proper consent. Ooh and Rahima asked a great question exactly wat I was thinkin!
  13. Gediid why dont u explain how we cud help?? Instead of just sayin we shud help? U r doin wat ur tellin us not to do. I kno I hav done wat I can & I kno dat my job havent finished yet but right now there aint much I can do but dream and share my dreams wiv u guys and de thing is my dreams are attainable if sum1 in power tried. At the end of de day sum1 has to do de talkin and I dont mind. But plz do explain to me how we cud help?? Put our pens and books down and fight wiv dem?? Dont u think dat we are helpin by gainin education & takin it back wiv us?
  14. Well said MiZz_LeXuS! Death is a perfect chance to self-reflect & realise wat u need to improve on!
  15. Inaalilaahi wainaa Ileyhii raajicuun.. Samar iyo Imaan! I feel real bad just readin dis post has brought tears to my eyes. It seriously makes u think! how a perfectly healthy person simply passes away without reason other than Allah cause-but as Libaax-Sankataabte said "Allah has his own plans" May Allah forgive all his sins as well as forgive all the sins of the dead and the Muslims alive Amiin. I pray dat Allah (SWT) will grant him Jannah hopefully Insha Allah let him dwell in Jannat-al-Fardaus for all eternity-Amiin.
  16. The origin of my nick was Denmark A Danish national is called a Dane hence Im an ExDane (well I am on paper still a Dane coz I refused de British Citizenship) But Im an ExDane because I hav truly discovered my roots i.e I went 2 Somalia & found de home I'd been lookin 4 all my life!
  17. Hey I dont kno bout u guys but I dont hear no cat I cud swear dat everytime I go to Page2 I hear Homer (from de Simpsons) sayin; "To start, press any key,,, Where's de any key??" Can any of u guys hear dat too?
  18. Okey I'd probably say if u feel de boy go 4 it howeva as u said dont giv advice u wudnt act upon. Well dis is wat I feel-I kno 4 a fact dat I wud NEVA approach a guy and tell him dat I was feelin him! I dont think I'd hav de guts to b honest but there are as Lakkad said other ways of gettin around it so do it de girlie way sweetie & good luck!
  19. Originally posted by HornAfrique: Exdane I don't think it's possible to have Hargaysa as capital, I wonder why?? Originally posted by HornAfrique: what if Muqdisho was named the executive capital, Hargaysa the legislative capital, and another city the judicial? Would it help to ease unification amongst our people? I hav 2 admit I was thinkin sumthin similar a bit like Saudi Arabia (Riyadh & Jeddah), Swaziland (Mbabane & Lobamba) South Africa (Pretoria & Cape Town) Howeva since Somaliland at de moment hav a government in place and hav worked extremely hard towards re-building their land and restorin peace I think its only fair dat they get they're just reward! Many countries hav in de past changed capitals and it wudnt b much of a problem for Somalia to do de same. I wud love to see Hargeysa as de executive capital, Muqdisho the legislative capital, and Gerowe (Puntland) the judicial capital. On top of dat hav offices all across de country. Baashi cheers pal-lets keep de dream alive!
  20. I am not ready to declare defeat as such howeva a major shake-up is needed in order to save Somalia as a whole! Former Somalia now hav no official government which is recognised by other countries and neither do they hav official seats in de UN. Howeva Somalilanders de most determined people eva whom has been betrayed time and time again and hav proved ova and ova again dat they are not willing to giv up and has thru drastic measures shown dat they can and hav created stability and some sort of democracy (regardless of how biased) only dream of being recognised but chances are that wont happen. Although I believe they deserve it! In 1960 Egal brought Somaliland to unite with their fellow Somalis unconditionally. Maybe the only hope of bringin Somalia as a whole back together is to repeat history but with a different twist. Wat if the Southerners handed their Transition government ova to Hargeysa and said its your turn to save Somalia! Let de North take de lead for once wat do ya'll think? We can't seperate Somali people ? Just take de word SOMALI and spell it backwards u'll get ILAMOS in other words 'if I go down u go down wiv me' Im not too sure bout de meanin (heard it from a friend) I actually believe dat ignorance and misunderstandings are de main reasons why somalia yet havent come to peace! If all de other regions come together and go to Hargeysa it wud b cool because we wud b rewarded for all our hard work-get together and make Hargeysa the next capital of SOMALIA! So Somaliland wud become a state as well as Puntland, Southern Somalia and so on-states within 1 country. Dats de only way we can gain control of our people in Ethiopia and Kenya the amount of Somalis dat live there in land dat used to belong to Somalia is unreal apparently approx 8million Somalis live in Ogaden alone and de population of de entire Somalia is approx 7.5mill so dat means not only wud Somalia grow in de amount of land they hav but also de amount of people wud dramatically increase! Lets all get together and create one Somalia the original Somalia with all de land we hav been deprived off for soo long (dat way we wud also gain control of de oil rigs in Ogadenia!) Let Hargeysa become de Capital and Insha Allah everythin will work out like separate states in 1 big UNITED country! Damn I sound a lil like a politician now dont I? Sorry it wasnt my intention but this is just a dream which I share wiv a few other people from other places and forums and I thought u guys mite like it too. Does any1 else share my dream??
  21. Nah dont worry its all good! But u still havent told me wat u think...
  22. I believe men are threatened by womens steady success in practically all walks of life even areas previously seen as 'mens only'. I also believe this go waaaay back even when Pharaoh (Fircaun) was around which is apparently one of the reasons why circumcision (mutilation-style) came into being. This was because men was threaten by ladies ability to enjoy themselves and their talent to seduce men. Another example is dat of almost every tradition where women were not adviced to study past a certain age and even to de extend dat girls used to be marked down by at least 10% on their 11+ exams because a higher percentage of girls passed these exams & since they wanted an even number of boys and girls enterin higher educational institutions they thought this was de best thing to do another theory is dat girls matured faster than boys around dat age! Women who work & even 2day, dont get as much money as men do although the difference is significantly lower its still present. Now a days women are more career minded and less women actually hav children, less women get married and therefore we pose a great danger to men because in other words -- they are no longer Needed! -- So an educated women is more likely to be hardworkin or earnin herself a good wage, more and more women live in their own homes or hav their name on de contract so a man may ask himself wats my job now?? To aid in producing kids and I guess dats about it This is a serious role change & I guess its just another sign dat Judgement Day aint too far fetched after all.
  23. Hey thanx a million Ameenah dat was very well written! The funny thing about Somali traditions and culture is de fact dat u cant really research it without askin de somalis themselves I mean if u wana find out about Asian traditions its quite easy to do so but we need somewhere we can refer to ourselves. Coz I dont personally kno too much about Somali traditions. Ooh and Libaax-Sankataabte ur a bright star keep shinin down on us-Thanx walaal I was kinda worried dat no1 wud reply coz they cudnt access de topic due to lack of replies and dat it wud quickly fall to de bottom of de chart but walaal tell me wat do u think??
  24. Someone asked me whether or not I believed dat de somali culture was old fashioned? I believe dat de Somali culture is old fashioned just like any other culture which havent been reviewed or has changed ova de course of 10years! Okey then there are all de immigrants who hav migrated to de west in search of a better lfe or simply peace. I am speakin generally & dis does not include every1-myself for one coz I was neva born in Somalia and therefore didnt experience such a culture change. Now dis is when culture comes into play. I strongly believe dat Somalis are de worst type of people when it comes to integration. Most Somalis who think they are 'ill-bax' are merely copyin de western people which aint integration but actin! To integrate u need to adjust urself to de new lifestyle in which u find urself and expand on it or improvise! U shud take wat u believe is good from de western society and mix it wiv ur cultural and religious beliefs.. to me dat true integration. The Somali culture is not old-fashioned as such u just need to integrate into it and use wat u prefer and disregard wat is umimportant and dis varies from givin camels as mehr to female mutilation and from usin too much oil (subag) in food to believing women are baby machines. Howeva dont forget de religion! This shud come before anythin else which is why we now appreciate de fact dat women shud go to schools and learn things and that they shudnt b mutilated. Tell me wat u think..?
