Problem in Somalia has never been money but security, safety etc. With Shabab's attack last week what company will settle in Xamar? Be realistic! Focus on securing the city. It's only a 'new era' because there are African troops in each area making sure HAG doesn't chimp out. The people investing are Turks because they want their influence in Muslim countries to increase and UN to make sure people don't join Shabab and HAG diaspora that build hotels etc. So they can come back every summer. The economic situation for the locals hasn't changed that much.

The people deserve to celebrate it more than SOmalians deserve to celebrate 1st of July, which I think is disgusting. Half the country is in refugee camps. Shabab fighting Kenyans/Ethiopians/Ugandans. Starvation. And people spend thousands on some meaningless celebration.

They rape women refugees and extort poor people out of their money. You can't compare them to Somaliland's police. I can go the zoo and dress monkeys, and teach them not to fight each other. It does have modern telecommunications and towers, and the economy is getting a lot better because Iley wants to bribe people not to support ONLF. They are even building a 5-Star hotel in Jigjiga for all the foreigners and diplomatic visits. Have to disagree with you there Abbaas, Arabic is an official language of Somalia, but due to there being years of civil war most people don't know it except Dugsi students. But it was an official language and official documents were printed in Arabic, also a lot of Somalis understand Arabic due to Dugsi upbringing and the only accessible language is Arabic (= education, deen, and even entertainment) Even in cafes you'll see that a lot are watching Arabic TV. Of course it's not the same for people that grew up in the baadiyo as camel herders and refugees.
