  2. Originally posted by Cara: What's really impressive is that he wrote the whole thing himself. No speech writers! That's what they all say. He has a speechwriter (Jon Favreau). The ideas within the speech might have been Obama's but I doubt if his speechwriter didn't have any input there. You know, the more I see, hear and read about Obama the more I remember Tony Blair just before the 1997 British elections. He too was young-looking, charming and talking of hope and a change in the way politics in the UK was done! Young women all fancied him and young men were impressed with his speeches. Yet, after ten years in power, the rhetoric was proven to be nothing more than that, pointless rhetoric! This speech is not very likely to be forgotten. He will always be remembered for it. But soon, once the dust has settled and the arguments have moved on to the next State to be won, his opponents will start picking bits of his speech to attack him back with. I wonder what he'll do then? Shout "Not this time."
  3. Should have saved this speech for later. As it is I feel it will not make a whole lot of difference to his goals in the long term. How is the media taking it? Do they keep playing constant repeats of the Pastor's comments as a result?
  4. ^^ It was not subtle enough for my liking. Don't panic, it was not out of a sense of supporting women's rights or anything.
  5. ^^ Stop causing trouble between myself and Marcus. He knows I got nothin but love for him.
  6. North, Still, with Serenity's obvious soft spot for him, I get the feeling his complaint of your 'interfering with his affairs!' went far beyond how most of us understood those words.
  7. ^^ Are you trying to get me in trouble with reer Borama? There is nothing wroing with Bombay.

  10. A couple of unique demonstrations are taking place in London today. The larger one is held to celebrate the long-awaited recognition of Somaliland. The smaller one is taking place to denounce this recognition! There is rioting in the near and far south of Somalia. A couple of assassination attempts on the life of the Somaliland president have been thwarted. The Somaliland opposition MPs have started criticising the government for its handling of the recognition proceedings. They particularly questioned the need for those dancing girls, elephants draped in the Somaliland flag and the fireworks displaying the names of Somaliland and its president before the latter gave his speech! In deepest Burco, a young man is sowing the seeds of the first proper Somaliland rebel group. He's calling it The New SNM! The idea came to him as a result of a perceived slight after his meeting with a distant relative of the current president. Puntland lobbies the international community and demands equal treatment with Somaliland. The TFG president resigns his post to spearhead the Puntland effort. The Union Of Islamic Courts declared its opposition to this secession and blames the USA for breaking up the Somali Union. In a speech, a representative urged the people of Somaliland to rise up against this wicked imperialistic plan and overthrow their own government. Al Shabaab promised to behead the Somaliland president. A firefight broke out in Laas Canood after the son of a prominent Somaliland supporter teased and mocked the nephew of a Puntland sympathiser. Both administrations promised to send extra troops to the area to avenge and defend their oppressed people. Scores of Somaliland expatriates flew back home to take advantage of the various business opportunities that sprang up as a result of this recognition. This resulted in an unexpected windfall in the takings of Airport duties at Hargeisa's main Airstrip! Ethiopia welcomes the international recognition of Somaliland and laments the fact it were not the first to recognise it but tries to explain it with words pertaining to the neighbourly proximity and the stirring of a hornet's nest! China dispatches a large delegation to Somaliland. It is led by the first ever ambassador to this newly recognised country. The Somaliland administration announces a national holiday and makes use of the Elephants again, only this time they're draped with the Chinese flag. A consortium of Somali and Somaliland businessmen bid to open Somaliland's first internationally recognised bank! The EU, UN, NATO, Commonwealth, Arab League and the Organisation of the Islamic Conference all pledge monetary aid and political assistance to Somaliland. The Somaliland opposition parties demand the creation of a national committee to oversee the fair distribution of such aid. The ruling party dismisses these demands and talks up its own efforts and openness in the dark days before recognition. It promises to carry on along the same lines. The New SNM acquires two new members and all three huddle around to plot the plan to bring down this government. Somaliland applies to join IGAD but its efforts are blocked by Uganda. The waning TFG hails Uganda a beacon of common sense in the foolishly dark horn. Al Shabab pledge not to attack any Ugandan soldiers anymore. Overwhelmed with offers from several global oil companies, the Somaliland government enlists the help and expertise of Ethiopia in choosing the most profitable deal. The Dubai government attempts to purchase the city and port of Berbera. After facing strong and raucous opposition to its offer, it concludes a clandestine yet lucrative long-term lease deal with the Somaliland administration of said city and port. Borama is twinned with Bombay.
  11. ^^ It means 'don't care'
  12. ^^ This one is prettier than all of them (well, at least according to her people).

  14. ^^ It's obvious that I found me a new toy (it's American sign language). I may never type another word ever again.

Tell him to man up, pull up his trousers and haablaah nacnacad kaal taag plz. What kind of story is that?? You missed the point by a long shot there, my dear. This looks like, smells like and sounds like a badly veiled dig at women that agree to be second wives.
  17. ^^ It had to be you, didn't it? Have a nice evening all. I shall brave the tube and may see you on the other side.
  18. ^^^ A glorified carpenter.
  19. ^^ Heh. You're a typical old Somali woman, silly. Stoic is not a doctor yet and even when he finally becomes one he'll only work with teeth. You're as bad as the ones that keep asking me about the exchange rate and morgtages.
  20. ^^ How have your results been in your last six games? How has your form been? Enjoy playing in the last eight. That's the most you'll do this season.
  21. ^^ No idea. I lost touch with him years ago. I think he's been in EVERY house in North and East London. Last time I saw him he was making progress in West London. He was indeed a very sociable guy. CL, la tewiswis, mpenzi wangu. I said don't know any women that speak your lingo.
  22. ^^ Talking of knowing the entire community, did you hear about the young man that passed away recently? The one suffering from stomach cancer! Very sad really. He was a very nice guy.
