(Reuters) - Israel marks the anniversary of its founding on Thursday, 60 years by the Jewish calendar since the declaration of statehood on May 14, 1948. Following is a list of key elements of planned public celebrations: * At 8 p.m. (1700 GMT) on May 6, sirens and state ceremonies mark start of Remembrance Day for Israelis killed in conflicts. Sirens sound for further two minutes at 11 a.m. on May 7 * On the evening of May 7, displays combining light, music, lasers and special effects held simultaneously across Israel * On May 8, a public holiday, Israelis will attend picnics and barbecues, the traditional way of marking Independence Day * Air force aerobatic display over 10 cities on May 8, along with naval review off the Mediterranean coast, mass parachute drops and an international gathering of military bands at Haifa * On May 11, Israelis turning 60 on Independence Day will attend a birthday party with President Shimon Peres in Jerusalem * U.S. President George W. Bush visits May 14-16. He will meet Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to review progress on peace talks with the Palestinians, address Israeli parliament on May 15 and also attend conference on "The Future of the Jewish People" hosted by President Peres that runs May 13-15 * Twelve other heads of state are officially listed to attend. They are from Albania, Burkina Faso, Croatia, Georgia, Latvia, Mongolia, Poland, Rwanda, Slovenia, Togo, Ukraine and the Pacific island of Palau. Other notable guests include media mogul Rupert Murdoch, Google Inc co-founder Sergey Brin and former Cold War statesmen Mikhail Gorbachev and Henry Kissinger. * Last week's launch of Israel's Amos-3 satellite was made part of the celebrations -- it bears a 60th anniversary logo. * Israeli children are collecting 1.5 million marbles -- for the number of Jewish children who died in the Holocaust. * On May 8, voting ends to choose a national bird. President Peres will announce the winning emblem on May 29. * Other anniversary events will be held later in the year. These include mass dancing on streets of Jerusalem, a mass wedding for new immigrants, restoring 60 war memorials, building a 60-km path round the Sea of Galilee, building 60 playgrounds, launching a children's theatre in Jerusalem and a march by some 45,000 youngsters that will pass through key battle sites. * On May 15, Palestinians will mark the 60th anniversary of what they call the "nakba", or catastrophe when 700,000 Palestinians fled or were driven from their homes at the creation of Israel. Public employees and students will stop work at 11 a.m. to join rallies in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Sirens at noon start two minutes' silence. I had a bit of a bad dream last night. I dreamt that my wife had killed someone with the back of her shoe. She hit them on the head and the entire heel got stuck there. He stumbled out into the street with blood pouring out of his head and the shoe still dangling there. He fell into a gully! I was there and not there. She told me about the dead man with a shoe in his head. I told her we should phone the police, she said she was scared. I suggested we run away, she still said she was scared. I felt guilty about wanting to run away and told her I'll report this crime to the police but say I'm the one who killed the man in the gully. My breathing must have got very loud at this point, because my wife woke me up and asked me if I was ok. I was very irritated and didn't reply. After coming out of the toilet and calming down a little, I decided to tell her about the nightmare. I told her I was irritated because she woke me up before I could find out why she killed the man in the gully. In fact, I'm still annoyed about that. She on the other hand went to work all happy and thinks it was a great dream! No, not because she's a murderer. But because I volunteered, IN A DREAM, to take the punishment for a crime she committed. When I get home tonight I'm going to ask her if she was having an affair with the man in the gully. ps I'm boycotting the site for now. My hoyo told me to concentrate on my future.

Originally posted by STOIC: Heh Ngonge, I don’t think Hillary is genuine either-she is a glib. Indeed, so skilled of A POLITICIAN she is even after a loosing streak of primaries and drying up of funds, she is still able to shake the Obama camp. But, Saxiib there is no way to separate the wheat from the chafe here. The same sense of self-assured politics won’t be found in Clinton camp either. I don’t expect Hillary to redefine the American politics by bringing a momentum and face the real issues without resorting to campaign tactics of not so subtlety! We can marvel at how Obama personality has got him where he is today, but it would be unfair to deny his political skills of bringing a new breed of voters out from the closet. Every day as we get closer to the decision day sure we came to see new weakness that emerges from Obama camp. Hillary can wiggle and waffle at every little hope she gets, but it would not shake the Obama momentum as she wants him to disappear in the thin air. Dismiss him all you want, but look out for Obama to make a swath in the upcoming primaries. I'm not denying the skill, saaxib. Neither do I hate the man. It's just that I've seen the same fake message with Tony Blair and it would be foolish to fall for the same ruse twice. It's obvious that Obama is not what he claims to be. He's just a politician like all the others yet tries to dress himself in some sort of virtues, new man garb. If you support him for his politics, his ideology and plans for the future then good for you, saaxib. But if you support him because he's black or the drivel about change (with no real policies on how this change it going to be brought), I would say think again. Even worse, if you support him because he says he does not like to play the game of 'old politics', I'd suggest you watch and listen to his speeches of the last fortnight. He's an unkown quantity. He speaks well and gives (the young) hope but every passing day reveals a new stinky trait, link or association. Mrs Clinton is not any better to be honest. But since she's not putting any airs and graces on, most sensible people are likely to follow the adage of 'better the devil you know'.

Originally posted by STOIC: It is not a surprise that Obama, bloodied and bowed by the recent gaffes, lost the Pennsylvania primary. Although Hillary didn’t cause a major dent to his pledged delegate leads by any objective standard this win will clearly create a doubt on the unpledged super delegates minds. Hopefully Indiana will wrap up Obama for a win, as he is expected to win North Carolina. Obama has clearly given Clinton many opportunities of doubt about his capability to be a leader even as she was herself wrapped in controversies about her lies. The Clinton Machines are out in full force to demonize and personalize this election. Obama can still be smart and try to outspend her in the next few coming primaries. He should be smart enough to not plant any more seed of doubt in blue collar workers in the state of Indiana. He should be focused and try to avoid to say things that “off message”. In an election year where even good messages may turn out to be not so you have to be careful to choose the right wordings. The blue collar workers response for voting for Hillary typifies the Americans response on what the media spews, and fairly so can be headed sometimes as in the case of Obama’s chided remarks about small townies. With the Gas prices hit record high I think economy becomes the central to domestic policy. Each candidate’s policy of economic recovery will make the difference of who is going to make to the finish line. As an open Clinton Hater I hope she loses. Go Obama!! Nonsense, saaxib. It's a popularity contest. Always has been. Obama wins when he does all that fake 'change' crap of his but loses every time Clinton goes for him and forces him to reveal a tiny bit of his real personality. Whenever the mud was thrown about and he was forced to retaliate, he lost. Yet, he has no choice but to retaliate. He really should ditch the holier-than-thou attitude and roll his sleeves up for a proper political bout. But he wont.

I'll be watching it alone. Did I tell you about the shiisha I bought? I did Kids in bed. Wife upstairs writing her notes. Windows open. Shiisha on the ready. Me, my cat and Clive Tyldesley having a great old time.

^^ (it was an accident).
-
^^ I had nothing to do with it. A friend of mine sent me the e-mail and phoned to urge me to vote. The man has a doctorate in biochemistry and was a lecturer at imperial college. It's funny what sort of people fall for such scams!
-
^^ Really? There is an e-mail going round asking people to vote on the issue of banning the quran in holland! You mean these people have been voting for highways?

^^ When was the last time you saw a snake, saaxib? A real, normal, minding its own business snake?

It's a natural Somali reflext, silly. No Somali worth his salt would allow a 'piece of meat' in their mouths and yet manage to supress the urge to chew! ps You do come up with the strangest questions, saaxib.

Makes things all the more interesting in that part of the world. Now they'll all panic and try to root out whoever was behind this crazy act. We can say all we like about the foolishness of those in the SL political party (Udub, Ucid, Kulmiye or even Qaran), but one thing is for sure; none of them would want to lose the stability and comfort they live in right now (not to mention the accompanying benefits of such stability). The people may shout and promise hell fire but I predict that Silaanyo & Co will submit to the unfair demands of Udub and the ship shall merrily sail on once again.

Silly man. He could have donated it for medical research and got enough money to get his wife back.
