  2. Glad to hear you've had a nice time, saaxib. This got me thinking though; you're either a student, unemployed or self employed. You spent 45 days back home. FORTY FIVE DAYS!
  3. ^^ See, now you put the spotlights on yourself there. School boy error, saaxib, school boy error.
  4. ^^ You don't understand the meaning of 'objective', do you? Come on, admit it, I wont tell.
  5. ^^ All great points. I just don't think Somalis can get past the first two to be honest. 14 is a darn stretch. Paragon, I am a proud secessionist. I see no point in jumping into the sea when thousands around me are drowning. Better stay aloft my rubber duck, says I. Ps Ethiopians would have been good masters if they were not resisted. But what man would explicitly and openly accept such a master (well, other than you know who - and no, I'm not talking about his excellency, the most illistrious, Mr Dhahir Riyaale).
  6. Duke seems very irritable today. He usually ignores all the sniping and carries on with his TFG spin. talo maxa ku dhacay? Is he a fan of Xasan Adan?
  7. I'm not the one being melodramatic, saaxib. The death threat suggestion was put there for argument sake (worst case scenario so to speak). Do you people actually read what I write? You believe they would apologise because of some poxy e-mail but would not have done it after the bad publicity they got in the Times? You people are really starting to worry me now. It seems that not only Ibti is the militant here.
  8. Thierry, Can those in the middle of things count to 14? Horn is just having a moment, people. Let him vent a little. ps Che, it's all about interests and a man that does not think about his own interests is a fool to be honest. It's best to come out with it though. No point in hiding behind words.
  9. ^^ I'm assuming your question was a rhetorical one and therefore I shall not answer it directly. However, what I'll repeat is that I believe posting their e-mail on a public discussion forum to be irresponsible. Look, you need to get your anger about the mistreatment of the man out of the way and think, dispassionately, about this. First of all, what will a collection of poxy e-mails from irate Muslims achieve here? Is it a way for you (and here it is plural) to let off some steam and tell yourself that you 'at least did something'? Is it going to embarrass that organisation? Is it going to stop them from repeating the insult? Would you really think sending the e-mails would achieve any of this (ignore the one about yourselves)? What, more than an article in an Irish popular newspaper and the UK's famous Times newspaper? Not to mention, of course, the various websites and e-mail alerts. Now, if no good is going to come from it what is the other likely result? Actually, lets turn it all round and find out what you feel about this African Centre. Try to be truthful with your feelings. Imagine that they're reading this website and that the ugly baby has had his milk and is now fast asleep (i.e. no danger of censorship). What would you say to the African Centre? Ps The YOU is plural here. Always plural.
  10. ^^ I thought would be more your thing, saaxib. Aaah! 1990 world cup. Salvatore Schillaci. Ceaucescu died and the Berlin Wall fell a year earlier, Saddam invaded Kuwait around the same time. 1988 to 1990 was when this new world was born.
  11. ^^ Sabri was as bad as Laham, saaxib. Ramos was not that good either. Arda was the best player for the Turks followed by Samih(sp?). Nihat comes a distant third. There were many players better than Silva in that tournment but Senna and Xavi were sure the stars of Spain (Xavi more so). Snieder was not even the best Dutch player out there. That honour goes to the big black guy they had in the middle (what was his name again?). Modric was also the man.
  12. ^^ I think you're the type that would sell his left kidney for the chance to get on one of these shows. I'd vote to keep you in too.
  13. I think this thread is dead. A&T has left SOL and is not coming back. It's a real shame. If only Spain didn't win, huh.
  14. I had the same thoughts in another thread. I could never take Somali songs seriously. All the love songs sound extremely petulant. One talks about not loving any other women. Another tells his beloved not to have airs and graces and yet a third tells her not to be like an iron that wont break or a mountain that can’t be passed. The women singers are worse! The one that has Burco and Bosaso in her song always makes me smile. I just keep imagining the character in the song called baxsan rolling her eyes at the singer and thinking what a pathetic woman she is. The most nonsensical of the lot is the one that says ‘jacaylkina ka weyn’! That line could be an answer for everything. If you break a fart and the wife complains about the stinky smell, tell her that jacaylkiina ka weyn. You offend your in-laws and your wife complains about feeling isolated, tell her that jacaylkiina ka weyn. You devour the last bits of ice cream that your woman was keeping for herself and she complains about you being a greedy pig; tell her that jacaylkiina ka weyn. She spends all your money on an ugly set of gold, be prepared to accept that jacaylkiina ka weyn! There is even a song that could easily, in any other world, amount to child abuse . In it, the singer talks about the fruits of some woman's chest, her gums and calves then goes on to reveal that she's still a child! Another sings about his beloved's hairy arms. The same singer, in another song, tells his beloved that if they can't get on, they should part and lessen their troubles! One singer describes the way his beloved took her scarf of her hair and let her hair fall! He must be in love with an Indian woman. All the ones I wrote about above are mentioned in your first post. Somali songs thread
  15. Where the hell is JB these days?
  16. I'd avoid it if I knew, silly woman.
  17. ^^ They miss lady ''member I told you', Sue. That's why they're all acting bad and hard.
  18. CL sings? In public? One of those chief mourners at funerals I bet. Can't for the life of me imagine her singing happy songs. ps North, Did I tell you how much I hate Dubai, saaxib? I am NEVER going on holiday there again.
  19. ^^ That's beside the point though. He's free to choose who he shakes hands with and who he does not. As long as he informs the other person politely they have no reason to be offended by his choice (religious or not).
  20. Some of you Somalis are made in China. You talk about being Somali but you daily display your ignorance of how the tribal and clannish system works. This tradition was a jaahiliyah tradition that preceded anything found in Somalia by thousands of years. In fact, some people even argue that it was first introduced by the Pharaohs. But, that in my opinion is a far fetched argument. The Pharaohs were more into direct incest rather than brother's marrying their dead sibling's widows. The ancient Arabs on the other hand applied and followed the tribal system that we find in Somalia today. Almost all of the traditions that your average Somali would puff his chest at and mention with pride are and have been Arab customs. The idea of someone marrying his brother's widow was introduced to primarily keep hold of the family's (and of course the clan's) wealth. For if the widow remained single there was always the possibility that she'll marry an outsider who would get hold of her deceased husband's wealth. The additional benefit of having to look after your brother's children might have also been a factor but, not usually, the main reason. Furthermore, the tradition of marrying one's cousins would have meant the new brother would not only marry his brother's widow but his very own cousin (this, I concede, is not a popular habit amongst Somalis). I may write more about the old Arab tribal systems if I get time in the morning. It will clearly be educational for some of you.
  21. ^^ That was not the point I was making and you know it. But, if it got you to reply anyway, I'm happy.
  22. Originally posted by Al Burcaawi: ^^Why not? Why support Djabouti vs Eritrea a week later? Surprise me,,,,, North, You're mixing your arguments here, saaxib. It has always been the policy of Somaliland to distance itself from anything to do with Somalia. That policy becomes even more apparent when it comes to Somali peace efforts. Remember, the rest of Somalia does not recognise Somaliland as a separate country. Therefore, for the president of Somaliland to comment, publicly encourage or get involved in any peace efforts regarding Somalia will only come across as a tacit acknowledgment of Somali sovereignty over Somaliland. Only if they would recognise him as a sovereign neighbour would he be able to make friendly announcements. Or, of course, if he were grilled by a journalist and asked direct questions. The case of Djibouti is different. There are no crossed wires there and Riyaale is at liberty to make any number of comments or announcements regarding that country. I don't think highly of the man (as you already know) but I think in the past year or two he played the politics game quite perfectly. In fact, he's been brilliant and left the opposition at home and Puntland (and Somalia) in his wake. Give credit where credit is due waryaa.
  23. ^^ I'm going with the Germans. They can't possibly play as bad as they did with the Turks.
  24. Originally posted by Ms DD: ^^ That really happened? Ibti I for one am glad you posted this. Some people here are brainwashed...strange mentality they have here. We are muslims right? therefore we should get upset when we feel we are attacked. Besides we shouldnt belittle smaller battles as they do add up. Get upset all you want, dear. That was not the point of my brainwashed self. She's posting the e-mail of the place in a public forum and expecting people to send e-mails voicing their displeasure with the whole thing. Can you, my good muslim lady, ensure that nobody is going to send death threats that may eventually involve the police and create a story that goes beyond a simple sheikh refusing to shake a woman's hand? The sheikh himself did not seem to be bothered enough to make a fuss about this storm in a tea cup. I fully understand yours and Ibti's intentions but I tell you clearly that they're wrong and help nobody (least of it all that sheikh). Nothing but impotent pride that causes more harm than good.
