I'll break it down for you: Somali guys are FREAKY (not the sex-crazed freaky..the other one). Not all, but some. They see you at the mall, and they stare you down. regardless of whether they are wearing the kufi or the bling-bling. Oh, and tell me why I got stalkers calling my house. I never give my # out. Could it be somali people who I know and trust, who pass my number around. And the ones calling me, think its cool/alright to call me in the middle of the night talking about "Hi, How U doin'" (in the Somali Joey from Friends kinda way). I'm like " who the flipping f* are you?". They can not be trusted. So, lets say I do go to the club and see a Somali dude. First, I look for the nearest exit before the hound gets a whiff of me. So I can somewhat understand why these girls are GLAD that the dude aint somali.....cuz then she could talk freely and not with the consequence of the whole community knowing who the f* she is. Or Some girls are just horny. Hey, but with all this talk about reputation, its not just about the girls....the guys are the worst perpretators And you thought I couldnt start a gender-war with this topic ha?

The funniest and the saddest movie I've ever watched.

508, at the end of the day, who cares what he is called? He was responsible for the deaths of innocent men, women and children. And I personally do not care how they dispose of him.
-
underdog, Well by some, are you talking about those who actually address the issue of women's rights? Another thing underdog, what do you mean we walk around wounded? Just because some of us are AWARE of the mysogyny that we encounter, does not mean we are "wounded" and in need of sympathy. Don't sell us short like that, "brother". I find that SOME SOLers are outright sexist, and that brings out the advocacy in me. You need to get out of the cave sometimes, UD.

Saddam had it coming to him. And I feel no sympathy towards that evil man, neither should anyone.

First to address Ngonge, I simply did not see you Maybe you need to invest in platform shoes or something Mansoor, First, I am 101% female..I don't know what made you think I'm one of you We take this issue seriously because it affects our daily life, living in this mysogynistic world. Loving women and knowing about women's rights are two separate things, "brother". You can love a woman and still be a sexist pig, for example. As for your little theory: from the rib where Xaawo can be protected in Aadan's arms. Here is my take: Ribs protect the insides of humans. Ribs are made of bones, which is the most strongest element of a human's body. Ribs supports humans to be erect. In conclusion, if ribs symbolized women, not only are we protectors, but we also strong and have the burden of supporting the MAN. Underdog, by saying "Sexist is the general ammunition used around here when "SOME" of these ladies run out of valid points"...You are undermining and putting down the women's fight for their rights since the Prophet's time....and that includes the Prophet's wives. Please "brother", if you look like a duck, walk like a duck, well you know how the rest goes. **brushing the dirt off her shoulders** Hey Ameenah, pass the polish when your done girl.

^ Welcome back. Mansoor, I really didn't think your post was a joke. By making references to how Eve was made from Adam's rib, you came to some dangerous conclusions. Adamn was not just a man, he was the FATHER of man. He was a prophet. He was not a regular man. So to suggest that we women were born from a man's rib, is well, idiotic (for lack of better word). In any case, I hardly doubt you wrote an entire essay to "tease" the women of the forum.

Originally posted by NGONGE: My personal view is that not many of us will be going home. I believe that like many of those before us, who moved to the Arab world or the seamen that worked in the West in the early parts of the last century and spent all their lives in foreign lands, we too are not likely to go home. Furthermore, I believe that if by some miracle we do manage to go home, we will find it very hard to fit in! I think Somalia would be a foreign land to me. For the main part, I wasn't born there. Visited a couple of years to my father's side of the family's region. Then came to Canada as a kid. I consider myself as Somali by blood. But I don't really consider Somalia my country. That's the honest truth. I don't feel the connection, or longing to a piece of land. And if I did, what region would I identify with...? So the answer to your question is....I would continue being a true nomad by heart, but I wouldn't go back to a torn-up country that I can't relate to.

Sorry. We have similar american foreign policy here. I move to deny the motion on the table to accept refugees from Somalinet. Any seconds?

Vin Diesel turns me on. Ngonge, You gonna post a picture up?

Can't wait to see that movie. I never watched Bowling for Columbine, so I am not fimiliar with his style. As for Bush/Kerry. They have the same background, so I don't think there will be much change, but then again, I would prefer him because his bush cabinet will be replaced. But I would vote for a democrat over a republican anyday. It's too bad I'm canadian....cuz I really wanna vote..

Originally posted by Amaanimeenah: DA I don't think your doing justice to those sahabiyaat by referring to them as feminists. The feminist ideology rejects many tenets of our Islamic teachings, so it isn't fair to attach devout Muslim women to it. The basic concept of feminism is the social and political movement for equality of men and women. Feminism is not a religion, its an idea. And a damn right good one. Now, liek every school of thought, it evolves as times goes on. I might not agree with everything about feminism but I will stand up for equality of both sexes. Feminism is not a lesbian movement, its a women's movement. But then again, that propaganda and hate is being perpretrated by the male species 508, Your just a sexist!

Q, they might be. I heard Barawanis (?sp) come from different places, like indian, yemen, etc. I heard of the Portoguese one as well.
-
Why are you so shocked and surprised that Somalis arent just muslims? Thing is, who cares? People are entitled to their choices of religion, just like we are!
-
Xisbi, While I don't appreciate that lovey-dovey ish ...I would rather have love in my marriage than just like or get along with the hubby. How boring! If you are willing to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you might as well love 'em.

Ngonge, Congrats!!

Originally posted by Nur: Devils advocate You worry me by agreeing with me, because whenevr the devil agrees with me, I question myself, but waht is your trick this time, because we sure agree? Nur Nur, Hmmm **how to put this lightly** I'M NOT REALLY THE DEVIL. Devil's advocate is just an expression. But I guess to you, having the world devil in a name is a major SIN, ha? Figures. And here I thought you were making the least bit sense.....

err... I like to put it this way: Men and Women: Different? yes. Equal? yes. One weaker than the other? Only in strength, but even that fails with age! Women have been fighting for equality even when the Prophet was alive. The biggest feminist/spokesperson for women were Aisha and Umm Salama. So all the men who like to dominate and control their women need to go and open up a book. And do not give me that "feminism is a western concept" crap. Thats another form of propoganda;) I thank God that I was born FEMALE!

Thought about it. Nope, it does not seem to be a play-on words. Sorry sue!

*ouch* curly-sue! Well I do aim to please!

Nur, Your post was an interesting read. I agree that world-wide autrocities and terrorism (guerrillas, rebels, cults, fanatics, etc) is nothing new. TruthSeeker, I'm sorry. I don't look at it as a war against Islam. Its a war nonetheless. But muslims and/or arabs being wrongfully targetted is a sad side-effect of war. And these psycho al-qiedas aren't helping much! I think these wars are about material gains, power and control. Period.

Is Qadaffi out of his f* mind? International conspiracy kulaha. Well, if they thought AIDS wouldn't happen to them because they are a muslim country, then they are WRONG. Maybe that will give em a clue that they need to equip their facilities against HIV. *shaking my head in disbelief*
