Black Panther is beautifully made, cinematically powerful and the actors truly embody the iconic, larger than life superheroes many of us grew up with, but the caviar here is that they reflect so many of us who rarely see ourselves on the big screen. I have watched this movie three times now and every time, I leave the theatre thinking about what could have been if Africa was not colonized and exploited, including how past and current African leadership have consistently failed its people. What I have not considered though was the argument made by some Muslims about it being Islamophobic. Specifically, the opening scene of the movie, where Black American actor Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia and Zimbabwean actress Danai Gurira as General Okoye rescue young Black girls kidnapped by men who seem to be members of the notorious Boko Haram. The film clearly states that the scene takes place in the Sambisa Forest, which is believed to be where Boko Haram is hiding many of the girls it has abducted leading some to claim that it reinforces the negative stereotype about Muslims as inherently violent. Musa Bihi Abdi said that despite the fact that many of the people who are officials in the government and intellectuals are privy to the country’s history of the past three decades most of the populace ere not well informed about it, especially the youth. The Head of the State thus proposed the indispensability of the fact that the members of the public ought to be informed about the happenings of the revolution that brought about the rebellion that had various aspects of monumental incidences with impacts in the history of the of the struggle for the re-assertion of the independence and nationhood of Somaliland. The President gave the sentiments when he met the surviving members of the revolutionary youth organization, UFO, in a special luncheon he treated them to their honour on Friday . UFO happened to be a vibrant organization of the youth who were mostly intellectuals who took to their initiation to rehabilitate state institutions that the then Barre administration overlooked and by thus bore the brunt of the police-state’s wrath and were jailed or sentenced to death. A major monumental happening in the wake of UFO uprising brought about the famous pelting incident on the 20th of February 1982; an incident which had the students fraternity and youth amongst Hargeisa population throw stones to the authority of the day exuding their defiance of the totalitarian state and demanded the release of the detained UFO members. By thus, Dagax-tuur which loosely translated means stone-throwing or pelting with stones was dubbed the incident which has since engraved itself into the country’s history hence ultimately became the official National Youth Day thereafter. The President’s sentiments had it that such a day and many others in the eventual armed uprising that changed the country’s history were issues that the majority of t he members of the public had no details of, if at all, or were not aware of, all together. The then youth who were members of UFO took a historical get-together picture with the Head of State. “The gentlemen assembled here today have converged from far and different places,” said the President. “90% of them were either incarcerated with life-long sentences or committed to death row hence they at least spent five to six years in seclusion cells”, added the President. The President who is himself a SNM war veteran and leader noted factually that the photograph was a dear treasure. “The photograph will be a sentimental national treasure which will be something to be cherished by those amongst us who were in the struggle but were not incarcerated”, he said. He told the UFO survivors that the nation acknowledged their heroism and as to such their history should be engraved formally in the country’s journals. “40 years later we still haven’t taught the populace of such realities all this while”, lamented the President. He said that it was quite malicious and ironical that when UFO or one of its individuals was mentioned people had surprisingly no grasp of the history hence just wondered. The President thanked them profusely hence reiterated their standard of heroism and acknowledgement of their place in the country’s history. A speaker amongst the UFO survivors, Dr. Mohamed Sh. Hassan thanked the President for treating them to the special luncheon at his residence. His compatriot Abdi Ismail Yoonis (Duse) highlighted the imperativeness of unity in achieving development. The UFO survivors generally pledged to support the nation in whatever way it may be deemed hence thanked those who rose up to the occasion and pelted stones in solidarity supporting the then youth who were being taken to court on February 20th 1982. They had been arrested several months earlier and convicted on the 23rd of February 1982 on trumped up treason charges.

Unfortunately, Somaliland has some of the world’s worst health indicators and health care system beset by problems at the institutional and individual levels. There is a shortage of health workers, recently estimated at 197 doctors, 1,256 nurses and 344 midwives, serving a population of around 4million. The equipment unimaginably low The Challenge Somaliland is undergoing a health workforce crisis. There are not enough well-trained, well-equipped doctors to serve its growing population of 4 million. Once out of university, young medical graduates – often still in their twenties – enter clinics and hospitals underprepared but are expected to make life-or-death decisions. A major problem is lack of funds for basic equipment. The Somaliland government can’t afford to pay for the tools young doctors need to treat their patients. We are looking to raise £26,000 to equip every doctor who graduates in Somaliland in 2018. Residents in Gabogabo district are yearning to establish a cement plant in order to exploit abundant cement in their region. The residents have said that the ministry of energy gave the green-light to start the exploration of cement in their district. They have expressed their concern over ministry of trade which has refused to go ahead with the exaction of cement. The residents have cited that unemployment among youth in the district is rife and the govt failed to implement development projects in their district. Some of the traditional elders in Gabogabo, a district that lies north of Burao, Togder’s provincial capital said that they inked an agreement with a Chinese company when it comes to setting up the cement plant and the training of employees.

 Puntland Focus Group concerned about Current Situation in the State, warns Election delay We, the Puntland Focus Group, would like to inform the Puntland people and Government of Puntland State of Somalia, that we remain extremely concerned about the governance and current situation in the State. It has come to our attention that the President of Puntland State is now entertaining an illegal extension of the Government’s five-year term. This behind-the-scenes political effort contradicts Article 79 of the Puntland Constitution, which limits the Government and Parliament’s term to five years. We all remember that, in 2001, when the Government attempted to extend its term it lead to the Puntland Civil War (2001-2003), leading to hundreds of death and displacement. We strictly warn that, any attempt to extend the Government’s term shall incite public unrest and political instability. We agree on the following Recommendations: 1. The Puntland Constitution should be respected, adhered to and practiced – by the Government and people of Puntland State. The term of the Government of Puntland State of Somalia ends on January 7, 2019, and the Presidential Election should be held on January 8, 2019. 2. The security of Puntland State should be strengthened and given priority. Puntland State boundaries should be defended and protected, as required by the Constitution. 3. The Federal Constitution review process should be inclusive, transparent and serve the best interests of the people of Somalia. Once reviewed, negotiated and completed, the Federal Constitution’s referendum process should be delayed, pending a successful negotiation with Somaliland Government. Until then, Puntland Government shall retrain and exercise powers enumerated state constitution which was adopted by constituency assembly in April 18, 2012, and granted under the Provisional Federal constitution. 4. The Puntland Government is elected to represent the will of people and it is the sole authority responsible to represent the State’s public interest as required by the Puntland Constitution. No other individual, authority or group has been delegated or authorized to speak or negotiate on behalf of Puntland State in any manner of public interest, and in particular, if the issues have the potential to impact on the Puntland State’s border, economy or its internal political structure. 5. The Somaliland must withdrew from Tukaraq town and Sool region immediately, without delay or condition in order to avoid further instability, conflict and violence in the region. HARGEISA—Almis Construction company is to start the installation works for the new 23-km water supply pipeline from Geed Deeble to Hargeisa. This was disclosed by Hargeisa Water Agency and UN-Habitat yesterday in a press release after Calami Construction firm failed to accomplish the installation works signed in 2015. The agreement that Hargeisa Water Agency in conjunction with UN-Habitat inked with Calami construction firm was to finish it. Hargeisa Water Agency gave warning to firm twice but it failed to live up its promises to accomplish the project on time. The Hargeisa Urban Water Supply Upgrading Project (HUWSUP) is jointly funded by the European Union and the Somaliland Development Fund to the tune of EUR 15 million and USD 8.6 million respectively. The project is implemented by UN-Habitat, in partnership with the Hargeisa Water Agency and the Somaliland Ministry of Water Resources. On completion, the project will increase the amount of water available for Hargeisa city from 9 million to 14.5 million litres per day.
