  1. It is not just propane gas, but petrol price dropped by 25%, cement price hit its lowest by 37% price drop (I think from 19$ a bag to 7$-8$ in Jan), the same applies to construction material, other imported goods etc. Size might be a factor, I'll check it in my next trip. In my previous trip, I conversed with a young man working for one of the local companies, who popped in to replace an empty tank, and a mother next door about the switch from dhuxul to gas. I am not intimately privy to their books, but as they are not open for business yet, one would not expect a steady stream of revenue, but then ships and boats do pay some taxes on arrival. No idea how that works. To the best of my knowledge, there is not, but then, never say never. As noted in an earlier post UAE tried, wanted shares, but not accepted.
  2. I understand the initial phase has started, and the initial batch of the construction equipment has arrived, and the rest is en route. The original plan was a private investment where a toll fee system would be implemented. The Wadaagsan annual conference is now in session, and more shall be known at its end.
  3. Consider qualitative measures of the project from an environmental perspective in benefits and gains. When the first gas tanker arrived, propane gas prices were very high, I think a propane tank was at 50$ for the household, and now less under 20$ (lasts up to 3 months for a family of 7), still high, but greatly reduced, and because of that, more and more people are opting for cooking with gas rather than "dhuxul", which in turn means less trees being cut down for cooking. Now, consider the environmental positive impact in 10 years time. To see it in action, just visit Sanaag to see the quick transformation in a short period, thanks to Fatima Jibril & Co., Allah yahfidhaa wa barik aqlahaa.
  4. I agree, it is inefficient. Storage tanks are being built nearby, which will remove the manual process out of the way. They bought a couple of cranes for cargo loading, and are in negotiation with a Stevedorking company to better manage cargo. The GGG road is the focus now.
  5. That could only come to pass if and when there is an agreed upon government, with sound institutions, and with political leadership entrusted with, and earned the confidence of their constituencies, yes, but not whilst the likes of the self-serving HSM advised by neophyte lasses barely out of their xafaayado, or tyrant wannabe Farmaajo counseled by rogue online agencies, are at the helm of this fragile nation. Till then, it is ground zero.
  6. Hold on, you contradicted yourself without realising it. If IOG wants to depose Bixiye, and Bixiye deployed militia to the area to defend against an imminent danger, as you posited, therefore it would make sense for IOG to dispatch his own militias to preempt, as Daljir reported. It is as if whoever penned the bulletin was briefed by intel from a source other than the one which briefed you, yet, according to you, it is fake news. Having you been frequenting the bile well far too often to realise the folly in your step? I though Daljir were supportive of the Awdal movement, or were they supporting the wrong clan, in your computation. Damn clan politics. Postscript: Here are the correct verses of the poem, of Qamaan Bulxan, you seem to be having trouble with. Baadida ninbaa kula deydeya daalna kaa badane Oon doonahayn inaad heshana daayin abidkaaye Dadkuna moodi duul wada dhashoon wax u dahsoonayne Dallo malaha aakhiro haddii loo kitaab dayaye Adna gabayga waad nagu danqiye daacaddii maqane Dubkaa nagaga kaa yaal haddii lagugu deyrshaaye
  7. 480 CLAN MILITIAS TRAINED IN DJIBOUTI TO TAKE CONTROL OF SAYLAC Daljir has learned that since Ethiopia declared its intention to take control of the Saylac Coast of Somalia, President Ismail Omar Guelleh (IOG) @IsmailOguelleh of Djibouti has been busy developing a parallel plan to also take control of the Saylac coast. IOG has recently convened Awdal clan and business leaders for a meeting in Djibouti. The meetings were initially advertised as a reconciliation conference for the two major clans in the region, the Gadabuursi and the Isse clans. While the clan leaders are still meeting in Djibouti, reliable sources are now telling Daljir Media that they eventually turned into meetings to strengthen Isse clan unity. So far, there is no reliable information if that was by design or a result of IOG getting cold feet in confiding his Saylac plans to the Gadabuursi clan. In Djibouti, with Isse clan unity strengthened, IOG asked his Isse clansmen that he will train and arm 480 clan militias who would take control of Saylac and environs. IOG selected a Colonel by the name Elmi to run the operation. With all 480 clan militias fully trained and armed, the militia leaders have now been ordered to depart and take control of Saylac. However, there is a slight problem. Somaliland has been closely following the events in Djibouti and has brought in few hundred heavily armed militias at the Lawyacade crossing. Colonel Elmi, not wanting any armed confrontations at the border crossing, now ordered the clan militia to head south to Geestiir and then trek all the way up to Saylac. With Somaliland aware of IOG's plans, there are now reports that some of @musebiihi's militias at the Lawyacado crossing have been ordered back to Saylac. If that happens, Col. Elmi of Djibouti has been instructed to take on the remaining Somaliland militias at the Lawyacado border crossing and move on to Saylac as a backup for the clan militias. This points out to an imminent clash taking place between Djibouti army and Somaliland militias, either at the Lawyacado crossing or in Saylac. With Saylac on the crosshairs of Ethiopia with the backing of the UAE, some questions are worth asking: what is IOG's purpose of creating an armed confrontations against Muse Bihi, when that could be an excuse for Abiy Ahmed to come to Muse Bihi's rescue? Why is the Gadabuursi clan not part of the trained clan militias that are supposedly to take control of Saylac? Is the Somali government party to the taking of Saylac, or is it solely an IOG military operation? Do the Gadabuursi clan leaders approve of the Saylac operation? We don't have the answers yet, but as sources close to IOG's Saylac operation tell Daljir, expect answers in the next couple of weeks or even earlier. > Daljir Media
  8. SOMALI PARLIAMENT APPROVES A NEW SECURITY AGREEMENT WITH TURKIYE Somalia is once again back in the Turkiye security umbrella as the Somali parliament earlier today overwhelmingly approved a Defense and Economic Cooperation Agreement. While Turkiye for the last ten years has proved to be a reliable friend of Somalia and has contributed to the rebuilding of Somalia's armed forces, President @HassanSMohamud has sidelined Turkiye in favor of UAE. UAE, a close friend of Ethiopia, is alleged to be backing Ethiopia's ambitions of seizing the Saylac coast of Somalia; hence, a new security agreement with Turkiye to help safeguard Somalia's territorial integrity and maritime boundaries. Meanwhile, there are no details if the security agreement with Turkiye supercedes the one with the UAE and Ethiopia, as the parliament just rubber-stamped the new security agreement without knowing the details. Similarly, the parliament has yet to receive the security agreements with the UAE and Ethiopia. > Daljir Media https://twitter.com/radiodaljir/status/1760339828057498075?s=20

  10. I am all for treaties with Muslim nations i.e. Turkiye, Masr, Emeraat, Qatar etc, but it MUST be UNDER the right circumstances, BY the right leadership, and AFTER the nation has reached political harmony. Not a knee jerk reaction, as is the case now. More importantly, and in practicality, from Marka to Ras Kamboni (SW/JL), from Garacad to Las Qoray (PL), and from Xiis to Zaylac (SL) fall beyond the purview of the Federal government, under SW, JL, PL, and SL administrations, two of which are not even on good terms; how is Turkiye going to operate in those waters without their involvement and agreement? Agreed.
  11. A brief sample of Natural Resources of the Somali peninsula. Uranium Somalia has an estimated 10,200 tonnes of uranium reserves, with 7,600 tonnes of it potentially commercially recoverable, though at relatively high expense Oil & Gas According to 2D seismic conducted by TGS in 2014, there could be 30 billion barrels of crude across 15 blocks. "I think the potential is there for multiple tens of billions of barrels, recoverable, or even more over time," Anderson said. "Just the areas we are looking at would be in that range, in the upside case, and that is just in our blocks." HydroElectric dams It is imperative to note that an estimated 100 to 120 MW of hydropower is said to be available in Somalia, yet the country is currently only extracting 4% of it. Wind and Solar The Stimson Center explains that “Somalia has the highest resource potential for onshore wind power in Africa and the country experiences 3,000 hours of sunlight per year with daily solar radiation ranging between 5-7 kWh/m2 per day, which equates to strong solar photovoltaic electricity generation capacity.” Furthermore, Somalia “could potentially produce up to 45,000 MW from wind and 2,000 MW from solar power.” Geothermal Djibouti has a geothermal potential estimated at 1,000 MW, enough to meet the country’s electricity demand, of which 50% of the population does not yet have access to electricity. Salt Somalia once had the biggest salt factory in the world. The Hafun Salt Factory was established in the Hafun area in northern Italian Somalia. Before the destruction of the salt factory, the plant produced about 200,000 metric tons of salt which were mainly exported to Far East Asia.

The new bases will be associated with the Somali military's Danab Brigade, established in 2017 following an agreement between the U.S. and Somalia to recruit, train, equip, and mentor 3,000 men and women from across Somalia to build a strong infantry capability within the Somali army. The brigade has been pivotal as a quick-reaction force in efforts to repel the extremist group al-Shabab. 13. Statement by Special Representative of the Secretary-General Catriona Laing to the Security Council on the situation in Somalia Political developments Madam President, I will begin with an update on political developments. The National Consultative Council (NCC) proposals of 27 May on the proposed new electoral model continue to be debated intensely. On the positive side, there is broad public support for the transition to One-Person, One-Vote (OPOV) elections, but there is also a realisation that the timelines proposed by the NCC are too ambitious. The UN is working with the Ministry of Interior Federal Affairs and Reconciliation to develop a realistic plan which will ensure the momentum towards OPOV is maintained. We welcome the recent approval by Parliament of the procedural rules for constitutional changes. This sets a clear pathway on process. It is now urgent to reach an inclusive consensus on the electoral framework. On the constitution, we encourage all parties to engage in the spirit of compromise to finalise the process. Without an agreed constitution, Somalia remains vulnerable to perennial crises with no agreed rules of the game to enable resolution. I commend the people of the Federal Member State of Puntland on the peaceful conclusion of the electoral process on 8 January 2024. President Said Abdullahi Deni – the sixth President of Puntland – was re-elected by the Puntland State Assembly to a second term in office. The presence of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and three Federal Member State Presidents at the inauguration on 25 January was a positive signal. We hope this has created the foundation for a reset of dialogue with full re-engagement of President Deni in the NCC process. The planned Garowe conference on the future of Somalia could be an important part of this reset, with the opportunity for wider consultation with key stakeholders, including women and youth. In Laascaanood and the Sool region, the situation has remained calm since the violence of November 2023. There is, however, no formal ceasefire. We continue to urge all parties to work towards an immediate exchange of detainees, a commitment to no further violence and to start dialogue to address the underlying drivers of the conflict. We continue to provide humanitarian assistance to those affected and to support the de-mining and early recovery. Statement by Special Representative of the Secretary-General Catriona Laing to the Security Council on the situation in Somalia | UNSOM UNSOM.UNMISSIONS.ORG (As delivered, New York, 19 February 2024) Madam President, Distinguished Members of the Security Council, I welcome this...

  15. a) The principle of shared sovereignty, at the Federal, State, and district levels, had been scrubbed where now almost all powers and decision making rest with, and lies within the Federal government institutions, where the principle of Federalism ONLY exists in name. b) The principle of check and balance had been scrubbed: In the Executive, it was originally designed where powers and responsibilities for the Presidency and Premier are shared and split to introduce a requisite parity, where a leader could not overstep, or abuse Powers of the Office, but under the newly proposed: The entire power rests in the Presidency with no oversight. In the Legislature, the Senate ( the Upper Chamber - majlis al shuyukh) was intended as an oversight body, a safety net for the House of Representative in ratifying laws prior to their being passed, or becoming law. As recently transpired, the two have been collapsed as one with there being zero oversight. Under the current format, in principle, the function of the Senate is reduced to a name only. The Judiciary, originally designed to oversee the other two branches of government, is yet to be formed. c) Under the monstrous National Security doctrine, backported from the dark military days, allows State security apparatus and agencies of the day to imprison citizens without legal representation, nor process, and with the Miranda rights now scrubbed, one could languish in prison for years, no questions asked.
  16. Another day with no flights to Hargeysa or Berbera. Whilst I remain strongly opposed to half-pints interfering with flights in motion, I too am against the gov't in Xamar exceeding its power instituting air blockade to regions. This happened to Kismayo before, could be applied to Garowe tomorrow, Xamar, Baydhaba etc. the days after.
  17. The same A Navalny, who equated immigrants with cockroachs.
  18. I do not have the backstory yet, but when it comes to the surface, it will not serve Somali interest, but US/NATO interest, and none of us will be content, satisfied, or happy with it.
  19. Trully unfortunate, if sad. I must applaud you for once in your life thinking like a true nomad, a son of Somali . Well done, mate. Just do me a small, tiny favour, please, could we just not ever mention colonial legacy? Not in name, nor in passing! And instead focus upon the Somali peninsula, and whatever political configuration or set-up is agreed upon, be it UAE style, German, US, UK, German etc, so be it. I personally prefer Ardu Somal / Dhul Somali (yeed). Pure and simple, Somali affairs ALONE!
  20. I would have said you were being harsh questioning his patriotism, but then I saw this clip recently, where he is equating Somalis in DDS and NFD with those in the diaspora, technically teaching kids in mainland Somalia that Somalis in occupied Somali territories are similar to refugees settled in the diaspora in foreign lands, in other words those territories are not ours.
