Cigaal was the man who spend 6 months in Kenya negotiating without authorization regarding the status of NFD, a role in which he played a weak hand for Somalia, eventually losing his cabinet seat because of it. Or is it the same Cigaal that during the negotiations of NFD in Kenya 1967 believed Somalia had no right for NFD, cause if NFD became part of Somalia, his secessionist aspirations would be weaker. We can look at this secessionist aspirations all the way back to 1962 a year after he lost his cabinet post when 2 officers staged a coup attempt in Hargeisa led by Xasan Kayd, funny enough Cabdulaahi Yuusuf was one of the senior officers present during that attempt under Mudane General Caynaanshe, in fact he actually recounts it in his book. Cigaal was the most senior politician from the north, are we to believe he knew nothing of 2 senior officers attempting a coup after he loses a cabinet seat? One has to wonder whose word he should take, the qaldan who seceded from Somalia based on I was hurt once in the 80s or the people keeping Somalia together.

Puntland keeping Somalia together through reconciliation and compromise. One must appreciate the lack of secessionist denial in this topic, but the original poster makes a good point, they want nothing to do with Somalia, so it's up to the custodians of the Federal Somali Republic to keep us together.
