I suppose all TFG fans will cry that this is all false even those all media outlets are reporting this with information from UNHCR!!! Somali conflict has displaced a million: UNHCR by Bogonko Bosire Tue Nov 20, 3:52 PM ET NAIROBI (AFP) - Some 600,000 people have fled the war-riven Somali capital since February, bringing the total number of people displaced inside the country to a "staggering one million," the UNHCR said Tuesday. Nearly 200,000 people fled Mogadishu in recent weeks amid some of the heaviest fighting between the joint Ethiopian and Somali government forces and Islamist-led rebels, the UN refugee agency said. Government troops continued to patrol Mogadishu, as relative stability returned days after dozens of people were killed and thousands wounded, witnesses said. "Sixty percent of the population or some 600,000 people are believed to have fled from ... Mogadishu since February this year," the UN High Commissioner for Refugees said in a statement. "The numbers of displaced this year are in addition to some 400,000 people displaced by previous fighting," said the statement. "Families continue to lack proper shelter and consistently resort to using any material - mostly plastic bags and rags - to patch up their 'tukuls' - flimsy dome-shaped shelters," the statement added. An estimated 200,000 people were living rough in squalid camps along the road to Afgooye, 30 kilometres (18 miles) west of Mogadishu -- a 50 percent increase over the past two weeks, the UNHCR said. Some of those sheltering there had had to give up some the aid they had received to gatekeepers, individuals who act as self-proclaimed managers in some of the settlements, the statement said. They were also being charged for the use of the latrines which were often too few for the numbers there, it added. Aid workers were delivering supplies in Afgooye, but complained that fighting was preventing them from accessing civilians trapped in Mogadishu. "It is impossible to estimate the number of people remaining in Mogadishu," said Catherine Weibel, the agency's spokeswoman for Somalia. A statement issued by the donor-funded Food Security Analysis Unit said child malnutrition was rising in the Shabelle region -- Somalia's breadbasket. The region had suffered the worst crop in 13 years, leaving nearly a million people there on the edge of starvation. At least 45,000 children under five were acutely malnourished, of whom nearly 8,500 were severely malnourished and in desperate need of specialist care, the FSAU added. "Humanitarian assistance for the displaced populations, host communities and rural populations in crisis in the Shabelle region is urgently needed to avert a slide into a humanitarian crisis of increased magnitude," it said. The UN and other independent aid workers warn that the crisis in Somalia is the worst in Africa, a dubious distinction in a continent where catastrophes are common. The transitional government, riven by in-fighting, has been unable to exert control across the nation and some provinces have declared independence. The bloody clan bickering and power struggles that intensified after the 1991 overthrow of dictator Mohamed Siad Barre have undermined numerous bids to stabilise Somalia. source

Court sentences man to two years in jail for stabbing wife 15 times By Bassam Za'za', Staff Reporter Published: November 21, 2007, 00:22 Dubai: A husband, who stabbed his wife 15 times for seeking divorce will spend two years behind prison bars, ruled a court on Tuesday. The Dubai Court of First Instance also fined the 23-year-old Somali husband, identified as A.H., Dh5,000. He will be deported after serving his term. The Public Prosecution charged the accused with consuming liquor and attempting to murder his 20-year-old compatriot wife, F.A., in a hotel room. Presiding Judge Saeed Salem Bin Sarm referred the accused to the Court of Misdemeanour where he will be prosecuted for consuming liquor. "Killing you is better than divorcing you," the husband reportedly shouted, who was drinking heavily at the time, the court heard. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "How dare you call the police. I am your husband. You are an impolite woman," the wife, F.A., quoted her husband in her statement to the Public Prosecution. F.A. who was saved after she was rushed to hospital said: "My husband asked me to come to the hotel and meet his uncle. We quarrelled over a juice bottle which I suspected contained liquor." She said her husband was outraged when she asked him for divorce "He locked the door from inside... then repeatedly stabbed me until I passed out," said the wife who was treated for injuries in her thigh, wrist, belly, chest and face. gulfnews

^^Are you following the news here in UAE? Rape suspect 'must be charged for bid to murder' By Bassam Za'za', Staff Reporter Published: November 19, 2007, 00:02 Dubai: A suspect with Aids and Hepatitis, being prosecuted for having forceful sex with a French boy, should've been charged with 'attempted murder', the boy's lawyer told a court on Sunday. "The suspect knew he has Aids and Hepatitis which are fatal diseases. When he reportedly had forceful sex with my 15-year-old victim, he was aware that those diseases are sexually transmitted. This is a murder attempt. The suspect continued to have sex with my client against his will though he was aware that he could kill my client [if the diseases got transmitted]," lawyer Hussain Al Jaziri, of Jaafar, A'alwan and Al Jaziri Advocates and Legal Consultants argued before the Dubai Court of First Instance. He told presiding Judge Fahmi Mounir that the 35-year-old Emirati suspect, A.K., (whose medical reports confirmed that he has Aids and Hepatitis) should have been charged with premeditated murder or attempt to murder. The Public Prosecution charged A.K., his 18-year-old compatriot, I.M., and a 17-year-old teenager (being prosecuted at Juveniles Court) I.S., with deception and kidnapping the 15-year-old student, A.R., and his 16-year-old compatriot, F.K., by offering to drive them home. The three suspects were also charged with having a homosexual affair against A.R.'s will after threatening him with a knife and a stick. Besides having denied his charge during his first court appearance, A.K. told the presiding judge yesterday: "I was drunk at the time of the incident." The other two suspects also denied their charges. Public prosecutor, Ali Mohammad Al Naqbi, argued: "The suspects gave their blood samples about three months after the incident. Obviously they were afraid of getting exposed and put on trial." Al Naqbi said the prosecution is seeking the toughest punishment applicable in this crime. "For two and a half months the police couldn't control A.K. to get a blood sample, so how would it be possible for A.R. to escape being sexually abused! My client cries day and night. He wishes he dies normally instead of dying of Aids," said Al Jaziri who is seeking Dh20,500 in temporary compensation. gulfnews.com

^^You dont have to wake up every morning to realise you are earning less in 'real' money because your currency is pegged to the dollar! 1 GBP was equal to 7.7 Dirhams last week (highest ever I think). Today its 7.53 so at least its fallen a little.

They will win and finish top which will make them seeded for the draw in Dec.

Interesting,,, I knew a lady Allah Yarxamha who refused a heart by pass op. She died a month or so later. Then you have the other extreme of wanting medicine even when the doctor says you dont need any  . Being prescribed medicine seems to have some sort of reassurance rather being given the all clear and exercising.
