Hmmm Rape victim was an adulteress - Saudi ministry AP Published: November 26, 2007, 00:33 Riyadh: The Saudi Justice Ministry announced that a girl gang raped by seven men and then sentenced to six months in prison and 200 lashes for adultery had confessed to cheating on her husband, in its latest response to the negative international reaction to the incident. The statement confirmed that the flogging sentence against the rape victim would be carried out and condemned foreign interference. "The Saudi justice minister expressed his regret about the media reports over the role of the women in this case which put out false information and wrongly defend her," said the statement. "The charged girl is a married woman who confessed to having an affair with the man she was caught with." In 2006 a Shiite Saudi 19-year-old, known only as the 'Girl from Qatif,' said she had recently been married and met a high school friend in his car to retrieve a picture of herself from him. While in a car with him, two men got into the vehicle and drove them to a secluded area where others waited, and then she and her companion were both raped. She was sentenced to prison and 90 lashes for being alone with a man not related to her and when her lawyer, Abdul Rahman Al Lahem, appealed the sentence, he was removed from the case, his licence suspended and the penalty doubled to 200. The Justice Ministry maintained, however, that the ruling was legal and followed the ''the book of God and the teachings of the Prophet Mohammad [PBUH]," noting that she had "confessed to doing what God has forbidden." The ministry's account of the incident differed substantially from that given by the woman and her lawyer and largely glosses over her rape by seven men, focusing instead on her plan to meet her lover for tryst in his car "in a dark place where they stayed for a while." gulfnews.com

A very good man and a great leader for his people. Dubai - The half-billion dollar man Dubai - His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, yesterday pledged a phenomenal dhs1.7 billion to the 'Dubai Cares' charity. The contribution is equivalent to the funds raised by the rest of the campaign, bringing the grand total to dhs3.4 billion. “I am a leader and I normally lead. But this time I waited so that I could equal the budget raised,” said Sheikh Mohammed to a packed Madinat Jumeirah auditorium. The announcement was welcomed with a huge round of applause as the Ruler of Dubai ended the eight-week drive, the aim of which was to raise enough to educate one million children in poor countries around the world. He started his speech by thanking the thousands of people who participated in the fundraiser, but added that the real work had just begun. “It is now our priority to ensure these funds are allocated in an efficient and appropriate manner. I have directed officials to manage the money and channel our contributions to educate millions of children around the world,” Sheikh Mohammed said. He was joined at the ceremony by his sons and daughters, who acted as ambassadors for the campaign. They toured several impoverished countries - including Yemen, Djibouti, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Chad and Sudan - to gain first-hand experience of the problems faced and met with government officials and students to personally review their requirements. And earlier this month a team from Dubai Cares offered help to the more than 100 children in Chad who were allegedly kidnapped by a group of people from French charity Zoe's Ark. “I now ask the United Nations to follow Dubai's model of charity work. We are leading the march for human welfare,” said Sheikh Mohammed, who had launched the fundraising drive on September 19 with the aim of helping the United Nations reach its goal of providing primary education to every child by 2015. Thanking all those who contributed, Sheikh Mohammed specially mentioned the outstanding gesture of a young Emirati couple, Yousuf Yaqoub and his bride, who donated their wedding party expenses of dhs150, 000 to the initiative. “This couple has made me feel proud and I am confident their values represent the spirit of a large number of the Emirati youth,” he said. Based on a long-term strategy of investing in community-based, education programmes, Dubai Cares will use the donations to build and renovate schools, train teachers, provide teaching materials, sport and recreation equipment, offer scholarships, organise school feeding programmes and encourage physical education in some of the poorest countries in the world. source

^^We can forget about the World Cup in 2010 aswell England have been drawn against their Euro 2008 nemesis Croatia for the 2010 World Cup South Africa qualifiers. It gives England a chance to avenge last week's defeat by Croatia which eliminated them from next summer's Euro 2008 finals in Austria and Switzerland.

I didnt know until I walked to the meat section of the Carrefour today  Waryaa Hunguri, tell your Filipina (or was she Sri Lankan?) house maid to make some good old Somali Goat! UAE lifts ban on frozen meat from Somalia WAM Published: November 14, 2007, 00:18 Dubai: The UAE has lifted the ban on the import of frozen meat from Somalia for three months. Several rules must be adhered to such as a medical certificate which proves the animals come from a disease-free area, have been quarantined for 30 days before their slaughter and have been tested in a laboratory for Rift Valley fever. The decree also stipulates that a joint technical committee from the Ministry of Environment and Water and The General Secretariat of Municipalities must visit Somalia to evaluate the health condition of the animals and slaughterhouses after the three month permit. Dr Mohammad Saeed Al Kindi, Minister of Environment and Water, also issued another decision banning the import of all livestock, their products and byproducts from the eastern and central region of Sudan until further notice. This decision was based on reports issued by the World Organisation for Animal Health, that cases of Rift Valley fever have been discovered in the eastern and central region of Sudan. gulfnews.com
