Globalisation Vs Nationalism: which side are you on?
Paragon replied to KritiKal-Mind's topic in General
I thought its worth bringing back this topic, since I need the views of other nomands on the 'Mythology of Globality/Globalness or Globalization.'. On the debate about the mythology of the reality of globalization, I often tend to align my thoughts with the antagonists's of the globalization thesis' camp. Writers and Theorists such Paul Hirst and Grahame Thompson, Sholte and McGrew and others, do emphasize strongly on the points that surely misplace and dimiss arguements that claim an unprecedented change - indicative of a phenomenon like globalization - to be taking place. Often, we are told 'markets must obey free-trade', but is there really such a thing as free-trade? Or could it be 'genuinely' argued that the so-called 'free-ness' that characterises globalization is just late capitalism as neo-marxists claim? Is globalization a reality or 'just a new buzz-word to denote the latest phase of Capitalism' hence a myth? Coming back to address the topic at hand, hyperglobalists would like us believe that globalization constitutes a new epoch of human history, making nation-states unnatural! However this is an arguement which has been frequently refuted by the likes of Hirst and Thompson who claim that, though states might seem weakened in terms of control and soverignty, they still remain the highest legitimate actors in the international arena.... to be continued...sorry -
Man Shujui-- nice articles son... Regretably I did miss the respect festival... "these figures are also now being bumped up by hih numbers of somalis" Northerners, good pointers bro. The funny thing however is, when Ethnic minority is mentioned, Somalis are not counted. Strange.

Metrosexuality is, in my own opinion, a bufferzone between hetrosexuality and homosexuality. And as older Somalis would say, its 'Nimow-Naagnimo' or 'Qorqode. Once you're described as 'a metrosexual male', you are one step away from becoming 'a homosexual'. Metro-sexuality has now become a phenomenon or a buzz-word in all entertainment mediums...

sade exactly...ur right. Mama Africa trust an african lol ... check out this joke : Nairobi, Kenya -- A Kenyan doctor who removed a bean stuck in the ear of a young girl forced it back when her parents said they couldn't afford the bill, local newspapers reported Wednesday. The Daily Nation said the doctor successfully removed the bean from the child's ear and then presented the parents with a bill for $5.75. When they said they did not have enough money, the doctor grabbed the child, forced the bean back into her ear and ejected the family from his workplace. The Kenya Medical Association said it was investigating the incident.

The convo went from ...simple questioning to: Tst! TSt! Tst! Ati nyinyi binadamu, heheee! *Phew-phewwwww* ... wee kitoto! unadhani hatujui kama nyinyi ni humani-beingsi? so your are calling us punch of fools? huh? What follow cannot not be revealed ... pure harrassment walaahi... I didnt say anything to start with but they were harsh on the poor girl... and i can still remember the slap fingers marked on her face the next morning...damn those were experiances!

Originally by Kowneyn: Jamaal-11: Guraad's contention is technically speaking wrong at many levels and from different angles as well. For example, 'the state that was called the Somali Republic has ceased to exist ...Second, this state was formed by two independent states--Somaliland and Somalia ...third "Somalia" currently has no administration and we could keep going. Kowneyn, I think I do follow your reasoning very clearly, but unfortunately, I must confess, I do defer in believing that guraad's contention is 'technically wrong'. My first reason, among others, is the fact that the contents brought forth by guraad arent entirely of his making; he merely built his arguement on Yasmine's one. So if he's is wrong, so will Yasmine's one. And if her's is wrong then both are wrong, since there is a similarity of analogy. Next point is, you mention the inexistence of Somalia's administration which is a fact that cannot be ingored or refuted. However, since existence seem to rely on recognition, and that Somalia is still internationally seen as a nation, can we not assert that Somaliland's lack of recognition puts her in the same place as Somalia, in terms of legitimacy? Still talking of statehood, let me quote you (thats if you don't mind again). You said: "this state was formed by two independent states--Somaliland and Somalia...third "Somalia" currently has no administration....." Sxb, let me say that with the absence of a union, there is 'technically no such thing as somalia but South and North. PS: have you nomads pondered this scenario: in the year of independence, Northerners joined Southerners. This time shouldn't it be the other way round? Southerners joining Northerners?

Yasmine's perspective Based on my understanding, those 3 regions are within the boundaries of Somaliland and I don’t think anyone’s disputing that fact. So I can understand why the admin in Somaliland is trying to maintain the integrity of the borders upon which they were once recognized. Versus Guraad's perspective Based on my understanding, somaliland is within the boundaries of Somalia and I don’t think anyone’s disputing that fact. So I can understand why the admin in Somalia is trying to maintain the integrity of the borders upon which they are intenationaly recognized. Hmmm!

Lol Mobb deep. I happened to be there, filming among the jubilant crowd that raised chants and flags over anything else. I, being an observer, was much impressed by the manner in which organisation was uptight. I have taken 100 photographs with a digi-camera, because the simcard became full. Pretty ones too. I have also had the chance to film the event and interviewed people whom, I was told by Jamhuuriya newspaper reporter, were members of the parliament, belonging to UCID among others. Insha-allaah I will try to post them here, meaning some of the pictures. PS: If there is any kind of a Somali crowd somewhere I'llbe there with a semi-professional DV-3CCD ..... -
lol Dawoco.... What a combination, eh? Keats and congestion . As they say, experiances form us or break us!

You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in the NBA is Chinese, the Swiss hold the America's Cup, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance, Germany doesn't want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are named 'Bush', 'Dick', and 'Colon.' Need I say more? LooooooooooooooL absolute crazyhouse indeed! Every town has the same two malls: the one white people go to and the one white people used to go to. Wasn't this quote in his 'down to earth' movie..very funny movie lol
