Darman bro, i am glad you have come to your honesty ideology. the issue with the schooling is that when people get accepted in the universityies here, they take that as an advantage of thats it, when am done with uni, its landing them big jobs and money, which in reallity it does not work like that. you have to do both firstly get yourself in the working field while you are in school. so by volunteering etc etc, i know its hard but it is doable, where there is a will there is a way. and about the issue of the nomads having their dreams crushed, i don't believe in that for in a sense they could have gone to other institutes, colleges and basically there are othher ways of getting around to what you actually want in life. I think one of the dilemmas sometimes of our fellow nomads is that, we give up too quickly, or is that we don't have an open mind to the issue of Allah's will. Mind you i am talking also from a personal experience when it comes to issue of engineering and so forth. For the brothers who will be warming up before the games and so forth, one pointer make sure u drinking lots of water inorder to have a good game. the weather here could be un expected. especially on those smogy days. hope the game days the weather will be nice.

Welcome for the newcomers to the city! Toronto is a great city, lots of space, parks all over the place. Darman bro, please don't praise detroit like that, u know very well that Toronto is in no way to be compared to Detroit, for Detroit isn't even a city to compare with T.DOT. bro, u might have not gotten job or what not, but Toronto is a live city, for the young and old. anyways i'll stop my praises, but they aren't really, its just honesty! Now for the soccer players, anyone has the schedule for this somali week, or have an idea of where i could get one?

T-DOT-O-DOT is the place to be in the summer! Check this, we start of with Canada day celebrations, and am telling you every weekend there is soemthing hype happening. the yonge street festivals in july, African festival happening at the same weekends with yonge festival. so you get some latina tastes and african tastes, plus some canadian things, and alot of music and food. big stars usually appear in these festivals too. Then comes, CARIBANA, the taste of the Islands, music and jams like crazy, a lot of americans come up here for that.the food, and to finish it off, we got the taste of the Danforth, which is the Greek festival, lots of yummy food again. and moreover it continues to september with fireworks at wonderland, and the art shows in the first weekends of september. Now interms of chilling, lots of beautiful parks in the city, the beaches, but be warned with the lake ontario, sadly we have no salty water, alittle bit outside the city nice locations for camping, if there are any campers in here. haha. For those interested on going to canada's wonderland, i would suggest for a good enjoyment of rides day, go during a weekday, because mostly its empty and not long line ups. For those gallery goers, and museums, always fuun stuff to see, moreover for those in sports, there are always competitions happening, basketball, and soccer. And how could i forget, the big somali soccer event that happens every July.Talking about Nomads, the City of T-DOT gets packed with NOMADS FOR THIS EVENT.and as usual parties all over, mind u the finals mostly happen at the same weekend as the yonge and African festival. Anyways, that was a little something something for those who are planning to tour the city, and check out the city. oops, one more thing, there is THE FORMULA ONE competition too, and CNE the exhibition place, all in end of july for the indy race, then caribana then cne end of august to september. O and for those hiphop fans, there is going to be a thing down at Harbourfront Centre, thats another place to check out, every weekend there are events running there, a world food tent, and bunch of the toronto multi-cultural theme is covered there. and the Latino festival, which includes orchestra too, for those classical music lovers, and some salsa and merengue. Northener, T.DOT is the place for the summer! i wrote a whole post on the events that are happening in T.DOT. If u want to experience diversity and exposure to almost everythin in one time, the toronto is the city for that. i mean somali's from all over have created a world wide tournament, this si amazing. anyways, i'll try to post the link of the info for tdot in the summer.
  6. Sister, best of luck on your journey. one pointer is, keep an open mind, for u don't know what to expect. Another thing, Ngonge, the issue of sending back money, when you go there, and see how it is, then u the sender have a different view of firstly who the people u are dealing with and the environment and the whole socio-analysis of the surroundings etc etc. I mean, we learn from travelling. Even if we don't end up leaving there, the exposure to a certain lifestyle, and the experience you get from it, helps everyone to understand more about life. and this is when you look at your personal life, and see what we take for granted there are others who can't even imagine it in their creativity of the mind.
  7. Ngonge, it is not that i was arguing with you with the word 'diaspora', but it is just curiosity, and wanting to know more.and thankyou for ur input.i shall not go back to that, for the topic must go on. I am planing on going back home, to the usage f what i said before. by living abroad, i do not ignore what it is waited for me, and at the same time, am putting the dream of heading back home, into play. And inshallah, by the ways of Allah, if i am meant to touch the earth of the land then i shall, and if not my life will still be continuing.
  8. that is interesting, about the word, on where it came from. because also now it has everything to do with the africans, from the caribeans, to the africans like us, who leave far from home, wether driven awaydue to country's turmoil, or just personal choice, etc. So if the word, has everything to do withthe jews spreading, could it have been that during that period, something like this was the first thing to happen, and in doing so, he proclaimation of the word, becomes the forebearer to the rest of the societies? and another thing, if a word like this is taken a back to those eras, how about our daily words that we use everyday, in a sense it will make an english language full of hatred, for us who are non caucasian, don't u think? sorry, went away from the topic. o back to the topic people, haha.
  9. Garaab Tuujiye- my apologize, for what i shall say, for i have been getting a lot of negative responds, when i ask someone to write in english. we speak of the language and culture, in english due to that, english is the language of the world, and for some of us who do not know the language, are also able to learn on what is out there, by the use of the foreign language. So please, if u had an addition to more info that is out there, and u shared it in somali, could u please translate it, or somehow take down the necessary info and post it in english. thank you
  10. Hey checkmatte, stop spoiling the song, and givin it a somali remix, please, don't.
  11. We are the diaspora, eventhough u hate to say it, but we are, and so as the ones who left even before the wars to arabia and so forth. The dream of going back, should not be the barrier for someone not to live their life in a foreign land, now being their home, whether permanent or temporary. You should always make something of yourself, no matter where u are, for if u don't, u cheat yourself out of 'life'(whatever life might be to you). Question, why do u hate using the word diaspora?
  12. J11-correct, that is what is needed, and the issue is how to start it, and encourage one another on doing this. But SOMALISM SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO SLEEP. for this culture is one of the ancient cultures that with time, the societies are working to erase it. and that is where i believe, this should not be allowed!
  13. Qac Qac, thankyou for your input and comments, for sure, what u said about the revival of wedding praises per say, and all the histories, and folklores are important. But i disagree with your comment of if a language is lost, so is the culture. that is not a true statement, for i have seen that even without the assertive knowledge of the language, the traditional practices, still take place amongst the people, and cultural practices.
  14. SISTER TO THE REAL-thank you very much, and have no fear, if we are not able to share, how will we communicate, feel free to shpill about anything. so i guess in the uk u guys are sort of established, alot going on over there, i am definetly looking into the sites u provided, now a question, have u taken the course u provided the website for? and the june festival thing, is it every year on june, do u know the exact dates? anyways, from where i am i haven't seen a strong structural foundation as of yet especially in the performing arts, and artistic expressions. but more research needs to be done. haha until then. thank you. and by anychance,m the playwrights, have u seen these plays being performed? u see the issue, is not only about the community getting involved, it is introducing these small literature books/plays to small theatres, and let the people experiment. that is another thing we lack from. we categorize our own productions per say. you see, when we produce something, there is that, we are doing it for somali's only, and that is one thing that the literi's(don't know if its a word, but sounds good! haha) could break away from, and hear what the world has to offer on there works. i could see a play being performed but diverse students in the schools of theatre, for even if the writer is somali, and has to do persay with the somali culture or watever it is,it is not necessary that the actors should be somali's.
  15. AWESOME OG_GIRL! now for CHECKMATE, u didn't translate those words OG_MOTI posted, u just jumped into sentences, we need to understand, remember. i have more questions, when reading the words, aa= a a? or just a long a sound? or is there sort of c in it? another thing, is the dh=dha in the arabic letters, is that correct? and since i don't know the words up there, i'll contribute to this, whoever knows it, it will be awesome! haha Caambabuurkaa
  16. Hello my fellow sol members, firstly i believe everyone is having difficulty with logging in to sol. hope they fix whatever the issue is quickly, it is all about the servers i guess. Anyways, i just wanted to bring in this topic, of the notion of somali language and the performing arts. i believe we need to revive these things, inorder for the young ones to see what it is about somalis and their culture, i've met a lot of kids, youth and older people, who are very submissive of the performing arts, of the somali people, and they were somalis themselves. Didn't believe on the cultural dance, for it ain't a big thing they say. and the only place you see these dances per say, are in weddings. So my fellow SOL members, when is it that we will stand up and be proud of our ethnicity and culture? when is it that we will show the world, that the cushtics from the eastern side of AFRIKA have exquisite dances and languages that could be shared with the world? NOTE: if u know of organizations which are established in this sort of environment, please share.
  17. As i said before, SEE YOUR FAMILY DOC. HE/SHE WILL GIVE U SOME PRESCRIPTION CREMES FOR UR FACE, AND ITS GOING TO WORK WONDERS! FORGET ABOUT ALL THE STORE MONEY SPENDERS!
  18. hey, about time ic my sisters into soccer. haha count me in, if a team is in need of a defender! played in highschool, and now trying to get back at it. anyways, i think if in need to check out some ball techniques, one of the teams that i enjoyed watching play is the female japanese team in the women's world cup, those girls are off the hook, they know how to play with the ball like no tomorrow. my greatest player is Pele still.
  19. O another thing, for those coming back to the city within these couple of weeks and feel like going out to chill and have a downtown welcoem experience,YOU GUYS ARE MORE THAN WELCOME, TO COME CHECKOUT A PLAY. mind u not somali, Canadian premiere, It will be great if u guys who can make it to come, the openning is the 18th and it runs to the 30th. 22. Read with an Italian accent (my apologies for the bad words) One day am gonna to Malta, in a bigga hotel. in the morning i go down to eat breakfast, i tell the waitress i want to pisses of toast, and she brings me one piss. i tell her i want to piss, she say you go to the toilet. i say you no understand, i want to piss on my plate, she say you better not piss on the plate, you son of a *****, i don't even know the lady, and she call me sonna of a *****. Later in the afternoon, i go to have lunch. the waitress brings spoon and knife, but no (fork)**** . i tell her i wanna **** , she tell me everyone wanna **** . i tell her u no understand, i wanna **** on the table. she say you better not **** on the table you sonna of a *****.i don't even know the lady and she calls me a sonna of *****. In the evening i go back to my room, and there is no shit on my bed. i call the manager and tell him i wanna shit, he say you go to the toilet. i say you no understand, i wanna shit on my bed, he say you better not shit the bed you sonna of a *****. i don't even know the man and he call me sonna of a *****. I go to the checkout, and the man on the counter says 'peace(piss) on you', i tell him, piss on you too sonna of a *****, i go back to Italy.
  23. this is a neat questioning, i cannot answer due to that i have more questions and queries. eventhough there are positives coming out of a democratic state, i am still tingled with the notion, is democracy good for African nations? Seeing alot of issues and problems being caused by the introduction of a new governance since the independence eras, i cannot help but see, the defaults of democracy. why i say defaults is because, what has happened most of the time, the governments forget the cultural rule of law and involving the full society. it still feels like the African States are still pawns in the board game. mind you i am not only talking about Somaliland specifically. It would be great to hear what the brothers and sisters in here, who know more, to elaborate on this, or hear their point of views.
  24. SOL room, when is it that this room is functional? cause i never seen it. lates
