  1. ^^Tallaabo, I am not clueless. You are projecting on a unity that does not exist Oodweyne, as always you are writing more grammar than truth. Dismissing the elephant in the Somaliland room is akin to the proverbial ostrich. You owe us an explanation why Mr. Waraabe is speaking out in the manner he is doing, why attempts have been made on Mr. Kaahin's life, and why Madam Fowziya is getting the reception she is getting from Somalilanders abroad every time she travels to the world capital. Explain that. And this time you may want to focus on the ball, not on the man
  2. This is what I am telling Oodweyne and Xaaji Xunjuf I will not be surprised if Fowziya becomes Somalia's next PM. That is the thinking of Dammu-a-Jadiid
  3. Xaaji Xunjuf, Consider the following: 1) The Hawd clans who share Burco with the Love Mother, have been surveying, like a hungry crow, which (political) tree to land. 2) Accusations of Siilaanyo's folks to have looted the coffers of the state are rampant. 3) The Mogadishu charm resulted in many landers coming back for properties, for jobs with the goverment, and for the International agencies Use your head, not heart, boowe and you will see that your clannismen are unsure what the future holds for them, politically speaking.
  4. Oodweyne somehow convinced himself that D-block has been defeated In reality, there is no difference between Fowzia (the Foreign Minister from Hargeysa) and Saacid Shirdoon (the PM from Gedo). The only difference is Saacid's clan is high on Somalia's food chain, while Fowzia is (in the unfair Somali clan settings) the daughter of a politically weak clan , namely that of Oodweyne. If we were to take Oodweyne's conclusion of the outcome of Somali civil war, the "Pashtuns of Somalia" have 60 parliamenterians from Somaliland and few ministers in the "back of the bus" as well . But of course that is a bizarre oversimplification from an old SNM fighter from Gaashaamo
  5. From what I am hearing the Oodweyne folks are warming up to the current Mogadishu seduction. After all, the Madam at the top of Somalia's foreign office is one of their own. Even the Sand-Dwellers as Mr Waraabe's rhetoric manifests are getting excited about this prospect
  6. ^^One motivation in my posts in SOL is to educate impressionable minds like STOIC. I am a caring man, Classified,
  7. STOIC, If you have been following the news, the president has conceded on Jubbaland issue in Addisababa. It was obvious Saacid was left out in that grand compromise. His hastily arranged visit to Baydhabo was a desperate move on his part to sabotage the Ethiopian deal. So Jubbaland is no longer a conflict for the president to continue --much larger players are in the field . To his credit,Hassan Sheekh rightly saw the writings on the wall. I only mentioned the Kismayo debacle to signifiy the missed opportunity this PM was presented with to show leadership. For Allah's sake we are talking about a man who thought Barre Hiiraale was a political card that could withstand with the political cyclone that was Jubbaland drivers Add that to the current Puntland vs SFG issue. He is missing in that discussion. Talk about presenting a comprehensive strategy to defeat Alshabaab . Zilch. On Somaliland engagement, he is absent and seems to not care. On Refugee issue. Zero. On constitution and federalism discussion, I dont know where he stands. Hassan Sheekh has many shortcomings and I have been quite vocal in highlighting them. But we all know what he stands for. He is stands for Mogadishu centeric Somalia --a Somalia that is no wise possible. He is for saving the legacy of the forces that defeated and expelled Barre regime from the capital. A legacy that could only be described as the ugliest form of civil strife. But he leads, talks , travels, and at times articulates why he is doing what he is doing. We need a new PM to balance Hassan Sheekh's shortcomings , even when the president does not appreciate ...
  8. I really don't care where the new PM hails (clan wise). That I never cared. Clan matrix never appeals to me as it obvious does to many here in terms of posts in the Federal government. Saacid has failed in Kismayo conflict, in Puntland relations, in the defeat of Alshabaab, in pretty much everything. It is true the president drove and still drives many of the policies that brought his government to a halt. But Saacid has shown uncharacteristic obedience. So my thinking is if a new prime minister takes the helm, he will have a fresh start and probably be a better position to learn from Saacid's mistakes. Also, our hope is the new prime minister will be more technocrat, more competent in understanding the constitution and the role of PM, and most definitely a person who is well versed with the donor communities innerworkings ...
  9. The reason is two fold: 1- Somali people cannot get rid off this president --current constitution does not give a proper recourse to impeach him 2- Saacid as Prime Minister has been particularly small minded and incompetent to the extent a whole year has been mostly lost. This is not to say Hassan is more competent than Saacid. It is just to admit that it is more practical to get rid off the PM than the president. A change is must to move forward.

  11. Puntland State of Somalia PRESS RELEASE 12 November 2013 With reference to the Government’s press statement yesterday (Nov. 11), Puntland Government’s Disaster Management and Rescue Committee held a second meeting Tuesday morning with U.N. and other international aid agencies in Garowe to share information and coordinate relief efforts. The meeting focused on the present situation following the Government’s declaration of a disaster emergency after a tropical cyclone struck several coastal districts in Puntland. Heavy torrential rains, high wind speeds and flooding has created a state of emergency, with 300 persons feared dead, hundreds others unaccounted for, and countless livestock lost. Eyl, Beyla, Dangorayo, Hafun, Alula, Rako Raho, and Jariban are among the most affected districts along the eastern and northern coasts. Many fishermen are missing and feared dead. The storm has destroyed entire villages, homes, buildings, and boats. The main tarmac highway between Garowe and Bossaso has been cut off near Sunijif, north of Garowe, causing the biggest logistical problems during the ongoing relief efforts. The Government has loaded 60 ton of emergency supplies consisting of non-perishable foods, blankets, tents, and medicines. Ten doctors and two ambulances are aiding relief efforts. Makeshift shelter centers are being established to absorb the displaced persons. Puntland security forces including the PMPF are using military transport trucks to deliver relief supplies to affected coastal districts in this vast territory. The loaded and ready trucks cannot deliver supplies by road, as the heavy rains and flooding has rendered dirt roads to the coastal areas impassible. Some communication lines are also off air causing more burdens. Communities in affected districts are in need of emergency supplies, including clean water, non-perishable foods, medicines, tents, and blankets. Puntland Government continues its appeals to the people, world governments, and international aid agencies to donate relief supplies and to support delivery of emergency assistance via airdropping of supplies. 13. If my observation of Hassan is correct, this will drag on for a while. The man cannot make decisions.
  14. There is no substantial fundraising yet. What is reported is a pocket change compared to the magnitude of the tragedy . We should do more. Che, take the lead in Boston, contact mosques, organize them. There must a 510c3 Somali organization somewhere in Boston... I just heard this thing, we will do the same in MN.
  15. Flights to Boosaaso and Garoowe are halted, road between Garoowe and Boosaaso is closed. Many are dead, many more are missing. Live stocks lost to the storm. This is a great day for Xaaji Xunjuf and Malistar2012. Seriously, how come there is no coverage on this tragedy in Somaliaonline?
  16. I find it hard to believe this is true. Even if this is true Hassan is not a decisive man , so we will be talking about this conflict for months to come without resolution ala Kismayo
  17. Very important for East African community, for Migrants and particularly for Somalis in Minneapolis. Congrats to Abdiwarsame. Late Samatar broke a barrier, and Warsame followed suit. For those who were proved to be small in their attempts to block Warsame from being elected for clan reasons are proved that they are, well , small both in thinking and fortunately in numbers as well.
  18. The president and entire Mogadishu political chunks are busy embrassing the face saving arrangement with Jubbaland Admin the Ethiopians devised . They have no time for corruption story. As soon as Ahmed leaves town , this story will get the attention it deserves.
  19. This is different in many levels. It shows a level of incompetence (even in theft) that is unheard of. Oodweyne is onto something: I would not be surprised if Alshabaan pulls off another spectacular terror in Mogadishu in near future.
  20. Faroole waa run sheeg. He said those in Mogadishu are working very hard to get rich.
  21. Faroole. It is an easy call. This one is. The man shares my vision for Somalia
  22. Classified , thanks for the vote boowe but there is a politics to play, and play we shall. The president has every right to come Kismayo, and just like today , he will be welcome with Dhaanto, ang poems to make a point in all of the political squabble. In normal circumstances, we would have displayed Niiko, and Lumbi dances , not this time awoowe :D Jokes aside, it was a great show and civil reception for the president, He is bound to disappoint as he did many times , so one is well advised not to be overly excited about this.
  23. Good thread. Lets keep this one. Xaaji Xunjuf welcome back,

This was a badly devised and poorly executed war. It set Somalia back and broke its young institutions. I have historically significant notes (dairies) of one of the key people leading the war effort. Time permitting I should publish them some day insha Allah. it shows that Mr.Barre lacked perspective and made poor decisions. But it also shows that he was genuine in his desire to see greater and united Somalia. The irony is Somalia started the war to to be united, the result was a more divided Somalia. The legacy of that war continues...
