I'm also not sure why people seem to think the geographies and settlement patterns we see today are fixed, unchanging realities, and the way things have always been. What you think is a Somali city today may not have been one 200 years ago. Our people (with a few exceptions) are traditionally nomadic, and we've taken over lands too, including Oromo lands. What do you think Galkacyo means?

Hadana galkacyo ma siin lahayd. its strange people oo arintan wax yar ka so qaaday thank god Somalida shisheeye ag degan arintaas waka fejignaan yihin Sida reer NFD reer Djibouti iyo reer Somali galbeed. Your reading comprehension needs work, Xaaji -- I was making a point that the boundaries you and several others seem to have in your minds, that Somalis and Oromos live in two different and clearly demarcated spaces, is false. And as Samafal pointed out, there's a lot of cultural exchange and overlap between our two ethnic groups as well.

Somalis share nothing with those oromos not a language not traditions not a country not the same history nothing. Oromos and the Zulus are the Same for Somalis. The Zulus are 100 times braver than the so called oromo ethnic group even the oromo ethnic group is not a real ethnic group. These people are ethiopians they are not our problem and certainly they are not our brothers an Ugandan Muslim is closer to a Somali than an oromo , an ugandan is not after the Somali territories. But the oromos want to steal Somali territories they already did that. I applaud the Somaliland goverment of deporting 60.000 oromos back to Adama.I applaud the Kilil 5 admin in jigjiga for keeping the region protected from oromo trespassers. Please do not insult Somalis and do not associate us with those weak people.

I am sure this thread will inflame the Xaaji and induce a tirade prejudice from others like Oba and Haatu but let us take some time to learn more about this Somali-like nation next door. For a start, the very obvious similarities between the Somalis and the Oromos are their distinct looks, their dress, their culture, religion and now after a short academic study of their Youtube clips I am of the opinion that they speak a dialect of Somali.
I mean when I listened to them attentively, very attentively
I could almost hear them speak a weird Somali. For a Northerner like me, their language sounds Somali but is just as hard to understand as Maay Maay. Here is one such clip for you to look at:

You can hear the Amharic corruption of the Oromo language. They are possibly old Somali group that splintered off from the main Somali population centuries back and then became because of centuries of Amhara/habesha domination Amharized.

Millions of oromos don't even speak afaan oromo the arsi speak good afaan oromo the rest speak a very corrupt afaan oromo heavily mixed with Amharic or some dont even speak it. The shewan oromos and Tulamos and wollo oromos consider themselves Amharas they look up to them in Addis Ababa the oromos there will tell you they are Amharas loool. These people have huge inferiority complex and identity crisis. These people left their religion for political seats the Amharas promised them. These people Muslim so called oromos gave their daughters to christian Amharas. They have no leaders and their leaders dont speak their language, imam Ahmed guray led them once, the Somalis taught them the fine culture of islam The Somalis taught them you can fight the Habashis these people are insecure and they try to expand now with their numbers.

interesting discussion, I will side with XX here but not totally. safferz and samafal are have blinders on and a bit naive. we should leave to the Somalis who have first hand knowledge of these people, aka the border Somalis. for the rest, your opinions don't matter frankly.

Xaaji, these people have n idea that in NFD we don't even sell land/houses to non-somalis. I wonder if it was them if they would do the same.

Who remembers during the derg koley dhaliyaru baad tihin it was oromo generals and politicians who advised the top derg leaders to displace Somalis and locate oromos and amhara in the Somali galbeed region. And that was the only way to crush the Somali separatist region if we plant our seeds in the heart land of the Somalis. The oromos were happy because they could easily take parts of the shinile region. Remember the Shinile region is full of oil and gas. And back than there were no ethnic kilils the region was called Hararghe region. it was General Tesfaye Gebre Kidan an oromo on both his mother and father side the highest military general of Ethiopia during the derg ,who wished that upon us and wanted to place amharas and oromos in Somali galbeed. In the late 19 century an oromo general Ras Gobena Dachi was Meneliks defense minister played the biggest role in subjugating his fellow oromos and also played a role when Somali galbeed was Incorporated into Abyssinia by force with 30.000 British rifles and a huge oromo army mostly from bale arsi shewa and borena districts from the oromo region. These people are not our allies they are our enemies they are not different than any other ethiopian.

Haatu reer NFD know how to deal with shisheeye if it was samafal and others beri hore bay dhulka ka ibin lahayen kikiyuuada iyo rendileka iyo sabaxiliga kale.

Xabad,

LOOL Don't ask him that he thinks Kikuyus are better masters than Oromos.

Haatu: You speak from your back side ninyahoow. Adigoo, reer NFD ah dad ha uga sheekayn wax iska celin. surrendered yourself to Kikuyus and you worried about Oromos taking you over, what a misguided priorities!!

Sxbayaal Haaji Hate & co, You can't have it all. You can not say Oromos are cowards, insecure and submissive and at same time tell us they are going to get us. Surely, if they are harmless what is worry? Caqli habeen iga dheh.

They are cowards weak but they want to use their state Ethiopia and their numbers to invade Somalis and their territories , see oromos is not a normal ethnic group the highland oromos are expanding towards the north and those in western hararghe are expanding in our land. But ofcourse if Somalis are not vigilant weak people can expand into our territories. But i guess you don't care since you are not from Somali galbeed, that the Somali region already lost some many districts.
