Somaliland President Ahmed Siilaanyo made it clear that they wont attend the London conference, and that the Somaliland and Somalia talks are a separate process, and that these talks will continue i think this is a very good decision made by the Somaliland goverment well said President.

This is a setback for Somaliland . I know Siilaanyo wanted a face saving agreement from both Mogadishu administration and the British government that is hosting this conference. Per protocol dictation, Conference format could not changed. But a mini meeting between Somalia and Somaliland was arranged.

Apparently, Siilaanyo did not like that and his trip to Turkey did not help him either with respect to the London conference

I think its the correct decision because the Conference will be co chaired by President hassan and David Cameron of the UK, and its a conference entirely discussing the issues problems of Somalia, which doesn't include Somaliland. Even if a mini meeting between Somaliland and Somalia was planned it will not be productive. Somaliland and Somalia should discuss their future relations not in conference like that but in a separate conference they jointly organized.

Madaxweynaha Somaliland oo sheegay inaysan ka qaybgalayn shirka London ee looga Hadlayo Arrimaha Soomaaliya

Jimco, Maarso 15, 2013 (HOL) — Madaxweynaha Somaliland, Axmed Maxamed Maxamuud (Siilaanyo) oo dib ugu soo laabtay Hargeysa kaddib shan maalmood oo uu safar ugu maqnaa waddanka Turkiga ayaa sheegay in Somaliland aysan ka qaybgalay shirka London.

Axmed Siilaayo ayaa sheegay in shirkaas uu yahay mid Soomaaliya loo qabanayo iyagana uusan quseyn, sidaa daraadeedna ay dowladda Britain u sheegeen inaysan shirkaas ka qaygbalayn.

“Shirka London waa mid loo qabanayo Soomaaliya, inaguna kama qaybgeli doonno, waayo ma ahan mid na khuseeya,” ayuu Siilaayo wariyeyaasha ugu sheegay garoonka diyaaradaha ee magaalada Hargeysa.

Isagoo hadalkiisa sii wata ayaa wuxuu sheegay in wadahadallada u dhexeeya dowladda Soomaaliya iyo Somaliland ay muddo soo socdeen, balse aysan hadda socon, isagoo xusay in dib loo furo ayaana ka hadli doonnaa.

Magaalada London ee dalka Britain ayaa lagu wadaa in horraanta bisha May ee soo socota lagu qaban doono shir looga hadlayo arrimaha Soomaaliya, kaasoo lagu casuumay maamulka Somaliland, waxaana shirkaas lagu waday inay isku arkaan wufuudda dowladda Soomaaliya iyo Somaliland si ay uga hadlaan sii socoshada wadahadalladii sannadkii hore u billowday.

What has Silanyo to lose? How will a conference in london about Somalia benefit Somaliland, you should look it from a Somaliland perspective not from a Somalia perspective. Ofcourse Hassan has nothing to lose its a conference for his country and he and the PM of the UK will co chair it. But whats it in for Somaliland?

Discussions / meetings is progress regardless if it's good for you or not, Somaliland will lose international respect by not attend the meeting. do not forget that Somalia has a FULL recognized government now, UN or individual countries have no good reason to Recognized Somaliland.. the only thing Somaliland can do is to wait for the next civil war in Somalia for the dear Recognition looool

What has Silanyo to lose?

If this refusal holds, and does not get reversed as happened before due to diplomatic pressure, Siilaanyo will lose a lot of political leverage. Saying no is always the last resort. The leverage Siilaanyo has is Somaliland street (and by Somaliland I mean the three Mother clans). It is a credible threat to say the street will not support me if I get on certain political programs (unity with Somalia and like). It is totally another ball game when I actually refuse and say no, in essence fortifying the effort of other countries to mitigate the situation ...

Saying 'NO' is a failure

Nothing will really change in that sense that , Somaliland hasn't lost any respect from the international community the past 21 years the first conference they attended was that of last year. And because it was an international conference hosted by Britain chaired by Britain. This conference is different this one is a conference both Somalia and the UK jointly chair, so all in all Somaliland will lose nothing. The international community will continue to deal with Somaliland as a defacto state. And its separate process talks between Somaliland and Somalia will continue till a final settlement is reached when talking about Somaliland and Somalia's future relations. By the way European countries sill have no diplomatic relations with Mogadishu as they still haven't opened their embassies in Mogadishu. No one wants war for Somalia , why do koonfurians always think Somalilanders want war for Somalia, do you know how many refugees come to Somaliland because of the wars in Somalia. Somalilanders just want peace in the horn and want good relations with Mogadishu and Somalia, as brotherly nations side by side. No need for war , dagaal faiido ma leh.

What you are forgetting is that Siilaanyo isn't saying no to talks with Somalia he welcomes that , he just says no to attending a conference for Somalia , which will not be beneficial for Somaliland. In addition president siilaanyo and his government are very flexible to hold talks with Somalia as long as they jointly organize the meeting in a foreign country. As for Somaliland and the people of Somaliland are united in this, the opposition parties the guurti elders and the religious leaders and the goverment including the diaspora. I think it was a very wise decision.

No you are ill informed, the British government wanted a mini talk to be held after the big conference between Hassan's government and Somaliland admin. It also wanted this conference to be inclusive for all Somalia's political stakeholders. I believe SL will still attend but if it turns out they boycott the conference it will be a big loss for them politically ...

;) Interesting!

Siilaanyo and co. are learning to play the game.

'Why should we attend when nothing is being put on the table to satisfy our priorities? Only the priorities of the other side. Either put something tangible on the table or we won't attend!'

It's about time ;)

This shows how Siilaanyo had been cornered and has no friends left. The British have left him long time ago and the Turkish gave him a hard hitting medicine. This is rather desperate move by Siilaanyo and the admin over there to prepare the people of Habraha clan in the traingle the brutal truth that's awaiting them. His problem is more of inside struggle and convincing than an outside political pressure, Siilaanyo and his comrades in crime had known the position of the outside word all along but what is taught for them is how to reformat or rebrand and turn the clock 180 back on the gullible people that had been brainwashed for 2 decades to believe they are a different country.

Dhibka ugu weyn ee Siilaanyo haysta ma ahan iney markasta ay caalamka lakulmaan lagu dhahaa 'Somalia ayaa tihiin' oo taasu waligood ayay ogaayeen laguna oran jiray ee iyagu inay sidaas shacabka beenta ay ku akhriyayeen 20-ka sano ay kuyiraahdaan kalmadaas oo ah 'Somalia ayaan kamid nahay', that's the biggest problem. It seems 20 years of indoctrination, brainwashing and seeding hatred has catch up with them. Taanaa ugu adag ayay u fakaraayaan sidii reerka duriyadda loogu diyaarin lahaa.
