Evil yet Pious Muslims

Recommended Posts

Maarodi

I don't know how a person can have "evil" and "pious" characteristics at the same time.

If you're a "pious" person, then you do no harm/evil, and once you do an evil act you rectify it asap. That's for genuine pious people. But for those munafiqiins it's another story, they're faux-piety down to a T.

There seems to be a contradiction in that statement as Islam is concerned with the perfection of good character, so a heart can not be evil and pious at the same time- unless there is some jahal or hypocrisy involved. This is not to say that there will ever be a perfect servant of Allah, as this world is not created for absolute perfection, there for no one is absolutely good or absolutely bad; most people struggle to reach the correct balance with the truly pious usually leaning towards good righteous deeds but will still make the occasional mistake due to our human weaknesses and Allah is always Most forgiving most merciful, Alhamdulilah. :)

Walahi it makes me wonder sometimes, the balance between forgiveness to and jannah for pious muslims who are yet all that a bad person embodies.

You don't go to jannah for being pious, adeer. You go there (if ever) because of allah's mercy.

(didn't want to comment on the topic itself because you have not been clear with your evil/pious dance there).

Thats normal. Most of use struggle with good and bad. Some times the good wins, some times the bad wins....You keep struggling till that time when the good wins over the evil...you become a muumin...

I have never in my life seen this combination. You can't be a good Muslim and evil. Unless you're talking about those over religious judgmental killjoys? They're not so bad :D

I think he's referring to those Muslims you see at the Mosque, who pray 5 times a day and perform all the religious obligations yet at the same time have an aura of malice and anger towards them. They are the brothers who would raise their voices and get threatening towards you if you disagree with them on the most trivial issues.

For example, once I was wearing a suit and tie, and a Brother approached me in a threatening manner, telling me how the suit and tie is imitating the Kaffirs. He was going on and on for almost half an hour, and the entire time he had a threatening posture, so if I dared say anything that would disagree with him, he might get violent.

Or those Duksi Teachers who viciously beat their students if they get the slightest Ayah wrong when reciting the Quran.

Or those Religious men who force their daughters to marry men who their daughters don't like.

Or those religious men who don't treat Christians, Jews and Hindus with courtesy and respect....but instead rant on what terrible people Non-Muslims are.

Or those religious men who are against trivial pursuits such as watching soccer games or going skiing.

I've met Non-Muslims who were some of the most courteous and respectful human beings I know. And I've also met Muslims who were malicious and generally unpleasant people to be around. And I've noticed that some of the Somali brothers who used to be drug addicts and convicts---when they start to practice the Deen more---still haven't let go of their destructive mentality. They don't have Rahma in their hearts. They may be practicing the Deen but I can't say they are good people.

I could go on and on for hours about these men. But I think this is sufficient

I think people are confusing the character of a person and his faithfulness. Yes, faith and religion improves someones character but also who have faith and are religious could be make mistakes, be sinners and possess aggressive behavior.

We are all humans, at the end of the day. Lets not fall for the tricks of the agnostics among us.

^Thank you for the info. I'm sorry for the brother, my mistake, although I did not mention him or anyone in person but I saw few familiar individuals making the same loud noise anytime Islam/Muslims are talked about in a negative sense.

Disregard this thread folks, I just wanted your perspectives on a thought and the perspectives that WaranleWarrior, Qansaxmeygaag, GheelleT and others have explained it well.
