Tamina yes I agree-he is a good speaker here in the west.

Vanquish-just because he opposes to some ignorant people who have no respect of difference of opinion (fascists), or because he supports the West in cases of Humanitarian interventions, or what is it? I dont understand?

Maybe its his theological views about how some 'so-called muslim people/leaders are intellectually bankrupt and corrupt that they only way to argue with those who disagree with them is through eradication and killing'. And, my argument here is not ofcourse in support of the Wests atrocious acts in muslim-populated areas-No No.

I'm very curious to what made you say Hamza Yusuf is not an islamic scholar. I've been to some of his lectures and i also got 16 audio tapes that cover variety of topics all i can say is not only is he a scholar he is one of the greates scholars of this century.

Thanks tamina for letting us know will definetely be there how could i miss such opportunity.

lol Intuition, What did you get your self into? icon_razz.gif

Tamina our sister is just trying to say that Hamza Yusuf as great as he may be his Sufi!

Now Allahu'Aclam am not 100% sure

I think In the case of the Somali people Living in London, majority are not in a stage where they can tell the difference between the different sectors out there yet, so Insha'Allah do go to his lectures, nothing is worng with it but be aware of the authenticity of the sources he gets his information from smile.gif

I've posted an event featuring Sh.Hamza a yr. or 2 ago.....and we've had the same discussion.

I've never heard him say..I belong to such and such Tasawwuf (sufi) tariqa. And what if he is?

He's all of a sudden discredited b'coz he's a sufi? I love Sh. Hamza and I truly believe he's got alot to offer to Muslims and non-Muslims.

These are important questions because it seems to me that we can't have differences of opinion within the muslim intellectual arena and tend to label ourselves as "salafi's" or "sufis" ...etc. etc. I've especially noticed this trend among the newly religious youth...I think they get the need to belong to something.

Here are my personal opinions....Tasawwuf is part of Islam, if u can't accept that, then u need to do some research. Secondly, I don't think they separate themselves from Ahl al-Sunna wa’l-Jama‘ah, or in other words.....the way of the Sunni path. The rise of sectarianism is due to the fact that a group of pple with a diff. perspective claim that their ideology is the only path that will lead them to paradize and everyone else is false. To me, that's dangerous!

I respect any individual who says " Laa Ilaaha Illa laahu, wa Muxamudun Rasuul Laah". We all have something to learn from one another.

Lastly, I want you all to reflect on this Ayah:

Allah Most High says:

"O you who believe! Avoid much suspicion, for in some cases suspicion is a sin. Do not spy [on one another], nor backbite one another. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Surely you would abhor it. Have fear of Allah. He is Relenting, Compassionate" [49:12]
