Burco Currency finally changed - No more Giinbaarta

Recommended Posts

I was reading this blog of someone working for for a NGO in Somaliland and they did complain about the smell and hygiene of the notes that were circulating. So if nothing else, it will give people fresh notes and they'll bhe able to get rid of the [huge] bundles of stinking, damp/wet notes that were in circulation and in and of themselves a health threat. I say bravo!

The other Somali Shilling notes circulating, in Somaliland and elsewhere, need replacing if for no reason other than that they are becoming a major health issue - I wouldn't be surprised if those cosy nests of bacteria are responsible for the spread of disease. It is a sad reminder of twenty years of chaos but at least in Somaliland something is being done about it.
