A damning press release a united Clan ?

DECLARATION OF THE ***** MEMBERS OF THE TRANSITIONAL FEDERAL PARLIEMENT, TRADITIONAL ELDERS AND POLITICAL LEADERS.

We are ***** members of the Transitional Federal Parliament, Elders and Political Leaders. Somalia has undergone violent and tragic experience for the last two decades. The absence of peace has spawned the lack of stability, rule of law, progress and confidence in a better future. The lack of social peace, effective self-governance and respect for the civil and human rights of citizens is endangering the very survival of the Somali Society.

There have been multiple attempts to underrate political dialogue, national reconciliation and re-establishment of the necessary state organs. Today here in Djibouti there is yet again an attempt to save Somalia from the ravages of civil strife, the collapse of social and political institutions and the palpable contraction of the human spirit. Today here in Djibouti there is yet another opportunity to establish a framework for peace and stability which are requisites for effective self-governance. A serious and inclusive attempt is needed to establish the necessary national institutions.

We are not questioning the good intentions of the various Somali parties who are participating in this search for broadening the base of the TFP. We are not questioning the good intentions and continued support of the International Community. We are, however, alarmed by the selection process of the new members of the parliament. We are concerned about the implementation of the agreement between the TFG and the ARS. The spirit and letter of that agreement was to elect a new leadership including the Speaker of the Parliament, President and Prime Minister. This basic agreement is not being implemented. The opposition specifically the ARS, has been mandated to select the new members. Fulfilling the principle of 4.5 was to be the corner stone of the selection process. Consultation with credible representatives of different clans was to be assured. A higher standard for new members should have been applied to guide the selection process.

We are extremely concerned about the attitudes and methods used by those mandated to take charge of the selection process. The new members of the parliament are to be sworn today, January 28, 2009. We the ***** members of the TFP, elders and political leaders are not fully aware of who have been selected on our behalf. We are concerned by the lack of consultation and are dismayed by arrogance of those who are responsible for the selection. We are bothered by the complete disregard of the calibration of clan, sub-clan and sub-sub-clan representation. We are troubled by the lack of concern for quality and experience.

We are mindful of the urgent need to expand the membership of the parliament. We are respectful of the constitutional terms of electing of a new president. However, there appears to be a stampede a-foot. The current security situation demands speedy deliberations. The election of the president has to be within 30 days time frame. A week or two are needed to examine the list of new members. A week or two will facilitate the desired consultation among the key groups. A week or two will enable those who are running for the highest office in the country to present their programs and seek the support of the members of the parliament, specially, the new members.

We are cognizant of the financial constraints of the sponsors of this strategic meeting. We are fully aware of the demands of the security situation inside the country. We are mindful of the fragility of the constitutional institutions of the TFP. We are mindful of the desperate need for an international peace keeping force. The election of a new president and the formation of new government are of course needed for the timely invitation and support of the AU and Security Counsel mandated International Peace Keeping force.

A week or two will not derail the timely expansion of the parliament and the election of the president. We are very much troubled by the apparent and threatening stampede.

The current and former Presidents of Puntland concur with our grave concerns.

All we are asking for is that there is so much at stake and there is a historical responsibility which we are not willing to shirk.

Emperor the list is a who’s who of the clan. I think they don’t like the set agenda which is to appoint the Sharif to the position.

“The current and former Presidents of Puntland concur with our grave concerns.”

The fact that they endorse Faroole’s line is amazing specially from the likes of Galayr, Maslah Siyad and Jess who were never known to be fans of Puntland. :D

:D:D

If I am not mistaken, those that will be running for the "President" Office need to first secure a seat in the TFP, right?

I think Warlord Gen. Morgan, Ina Afwayne, and Ina Galaydh were thinking that they will be included into the 200 new MPs by the ARS but found out that they weren't. :D

Too much flipflopping in the Somali politics.

All I see is that the tables have been turned and the D-clan finds itself on the verge of being political-irrelevance with regards to the goings on in Djibouti Conference.

Is there anything else that you would like to share, please do.

Duke, if indeed all of this men of different veiws, calibre and profession have gathered and reached this decision, then this is indeed a united greater-Clan... its a worrying development! This has never happened before in the entire long Somali civil war.

The famous members of the clan including one the worst arch enemy warlords Jees and Morgan who fought each other for almost a decade in the South of Somalia and who have never agreed on anything before are now making a joint press release, exteremely unexpected... Some people have actually predicted and warned of this which may lead to a new main clan clashes similar to the 1991. The international community is to blame for this, the way they are approaching to solve the Somali problem which is only to value and listen to the input of Sheikh Shariif (as the opposition) and Nuur Adde or Ahmed Abdi Salaan (as the government) alone and sideline all the rest of the Somali community is dead wrong and pouring more petrol to the fire...

Emperor's comments prove the secessionist does not get it. Adeer unity of the population of the largest house in Somalia does not bode well for your claims over certain areas. Thus your naïve take on the news only highlights your ignorance. We welcome the change and the end game with our little dance with the triangle.

Th international community is crying now since their actions have meant the loss of more ground to what they percieve as the enemy...

^Saaxib, the secessionists don't understand so is the international community, they think Shariif Ahmed and Nuur Ade can and should make all the decisions of Somalia, hand-pick parliamnetarians and sit at driving seat. The guyz must have been living in an underground for past few decades, yaa usheega Somalia is diverse and more complex than being reduced to Nur Ade and Sharif Ahmed... Inteey wax xaliya isleeyihiin bay kaga sii daraysaa, halkaasna weeye meesha uu Suldaanka rabo...

The secesionists have this Formula: More problems for Somalia is directly proportional to most likely recognition of Somaliland :D

NASSIR

The sentiment of D-clan's lesser impact in monopolizing the violence in the South was echoed by a Ugandese General on Reuters. So there's a widespread consensus that Shabaabs are made up entirely of the H-block and that empowering it would indeed strangle the raging spread of the so called extremists.

This is basically to strip Shabaabs of its social base, the pipeline of the resistance's lifeblood. And that has been the overriding case. And the fact that a series of reports from influential think-tanks have leaked the rumor that the TFG were predominantly structured around the D-clan and its leadership helped expedite the next course of action in accordance with America's shift of foreign policy from hard to soft power or a combination of both. However will the new experiment at the expense of unity and reconciliation work to deprive Shabaabs of its popular support or it will prove again there's no match for the Great Revolution.

Where's Awad Ahmed Ashara in the list. I heard he declared his candidacy for Presidency?

That’s a great point however the Al Shabaab of 2009 is not the same of the 2006. Today the clan courts have divided and the Al Shabaab is multi clan. One can even look at its top leaders, Goodane, Turki, Shangool, Afgani, Abu Mansuur and their cadres are full of other clan militias. Thus this will only create more conflict. Also what about the opposite effect if other clans see the new admin as a single clan then they will not give it any support. We shall wait and see but this is just a rash dash to no where.

Beesha ha midowdo. Can you imagine the entire D clan being on the same boat, agreeing to have one leader. That would be 3/4th of Somalia staying together, from Raas Kambooni to Caluula. Inta kale weyba iska soo raaci lahaayen.

p.s. JK, I don't believe that clan sh*&.

The secesionists have this Formula: More problems for Somalia is directly proportional to most likely recognition of Somaliland

That formula is not true. In fact, the ongoing instability in Southern Somalia and lack of governance prolongs the successful resolution of Somaliland's quest to independence.

Somalia's problems comes down to the Banadir clan's unresolved issues. If the Djibouti Conference or any other future conference does not address that issue head on, nothing will change. That is how it is and that is what you need to understand.

The same way Ina Caydid, Qaybdiid, Yalahaw etc etc Cumar Jees and Morgan are lameducks inasfaras the current situation in Southern Somalia is concerned.
