Somalia Capital Rocked By Violence After Church Attack

MOGADISHU, SOMALIA — Christians in Somalia remained on edge Friday, January 26, after a church attack and fresh reports that five people were killed in clashes in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

A British Broadcasting Corporation Correspondent saw three bodies with gunshot wounds lying in waste ground and witnesses said they saw two more bodies elsewhere in the city.

Four people were also injured in mortar attacks, the BBC said. Insecurity, including attacks against Christians, increased in and around the capital since the ousting of Islamists last month.

Friday’s violence came after human rights investigators confirmed that a Muslim gunman opened fire on Somali house church where Christians were worshipping, seriously injuring the church leader.

The January 2 attack happened in the Southern town of Tayeglow, 320 kilometers (200 miles) from the capital, Mogadishu, said the human rights group, International Christian Concern (ICC) with website www.persecution.org.

SECURITY REASONS

The leader of the house church, ICC identified only as “S” for security reasons, was reportedly hit by gunfire several times and assumed dead for about an hour before he regained consciousness.

"He is currently seeking medical care and his status is critical. The gunman is reportedly still threatening other Christians in the surrounding area," ICC added.

ICC linked the attack to recent clashes when Ethiopian troops assisted the provisional Somali government in pushing back the powerful Union of Islamic Courts (UIC) which had taken over and imposed Sharia, or Islamic law, in much of Southern Somalia.

"The desire to oppress Christianity existed long before Ethiopia put pressure on Somalia, and this house church attack is a red flag for an increase in violence and persecution for Christian believers in the Horn of Africa,” ICC President Jeff King said in a statement obtained by BosNewsLife.

ETHIOPIAN FORCES

"Even though the UIC took a thorough beating from Ethiopian forces, it does not mean they have disappeared or have no lingering influence," King added.

Ethiopia and Somalia have been engaged in two other wars in the past. "For many Somalis, Ethiopia is the enemy and because most Somalis are Muslim, and Ethiopia is considered Christian, Somalis view Christians as enemies also," ICC said.

Although the UIC is not currently in power, Christian observers say the combination of fresh "anti-Ethiopian sentiment" and the last ten years of civil and governmental chaos will likely worsen the situation for Somali Christians. (With reports from Somalia).

They aren't "few"; their number is increasing. There are tens thousands Somali kids and young children nurtured and cared in orphanages (and other similar institutions) by Western missionaries (some under the disguise of NGO's). The aim is evangelizing them and creating a sizable generation of Christian Somalis who are loyal to the West. I will even go further to conclude this generation of Christian Somalis are meant to rule Somalia, a la Ethiopia (a majority of Muslims ruled by Christians). These Western missionaries operate in regions whose leaders/administrations are seculars, probably in Waqooyi and Bari, and will definitely operate in the rest of Somalia once it's "pacified." Don't expect any objections from the TFG and other leaders of the "autonomous" regions; these are secular leaders who do not care about Islam and the interests of Muslims. Insha'Allah, this plot to "Ethiopianize" Somalia will fail.

Christian organizations are trying to spread their anti-Muslim views. Ignore them.

Somali Christian or not they are still Somalis. As fellow countrymen they need to be respected.

We hate each other because of our clan differences and our enemies hate us because of our Islamic identity. Don't be surprised next time if you hear a war not between Somali clans but between Somalis with different faiths.

It looks like Western Christian missionaries based in Ethiopia and Kenya are recruiting poor Somalis into their faiths. May Allah help us protect our Islamic identity from outside enemies and our own filthy GAALO RAAC.

Here is an article from Somali Christian group group[ACUUDU BILAAH] operating from Nairobi kenya.

"30 April 2006.

On 23rd of April 2006, Mr. Farah Mohamed Nur was killed in Mogadishu, Somalia. Farah was a Somali Christian, a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. He converted and was baptized in the year 2002, in Nairobi, Kenya and later in early 2005 went back to Somalia.Farah was on his way back from an interdenominational prayer fellowship with two others when someone

with an automatic machinegun fired and killed them. We have not received yet the names of the two other believers who were members of a Pentecostal denomination.

Farah and the two other believers’ killing is part of Al Qaid’s, and it’s allies, systematic campaign to eliminate all Christians from Somalia. Since the beginning of the civil war in 1991, Muslim fundamentalist organizations particularly Al Qaida and it’s partners in Somalia killed hundreds of Somali Christians and dozens of missionaries working in Somalia.

Sheikh Suley, one of the Al Qaida related powerful sheikh’s in Mogadishu, declared in 1995 that to eliminate Christianity from Somalia is part of their plan to create a 100% Muslim populated Islamic state in Somalia.

Please keep praying for the few hundreds of Somali Christians still remaining inside Somalia.

This is an obviously fabricated news, so SYL why did you bring on here?

The title and the attacks that happened today do not even match.

It again doesn't even have a reputable source.

Perhaps the "church" is this International Christian Concern, which masquerades as an humintarian organizaion. Well, if they are propagating gaalnimo to poor Soomaalida, waa u qalmaan xaruntooda in la weeraro. And if they are attacked, since when did foreigners become "Soomaali Christians?"

Waligeey World Vision ayaa ka shakisnaa, who never hide their Christian agenda, unlike others like Oxfam, Care, Save the Children, SOS, etc, who at least aren't that obvious. World Vision xataa ma xishoodaan, having a burning cross hidden in its logo

Som@li

Though this looks propaganda, Agencies should NOT care for you and die for you unless they have their own hidden agenda.

There are a few somali christians, some for generations, and some new converts, and shouldnt be a problem, I reckon we have a bigger problem , tribal conflict, rather than religion conflict.

Thanks for confirming what I have stated about the increasing number of Somali Christians. BTW, are you one of those Somali Christians? I am asking because I know you work for Western missionaries.

This news and its title is 100% accurate; not a fabrication. It takes very little task to verify; check it on Google News. Here are 2 sources:

Journal Chrétien

BosNewsLife

Journal Chretien - Le magazine chretien (chretien=christian)

BosNewsLife is an Internet news agency covering stories on Christians and Jews living in difficult circumstances for whatever reason, including persecution, as well as other hard hitting news stories from around the world
