Forget about the "Somali race" already. oil exploration in puntland for puntland. I wont think of you from my end don't think of us fair enough?

This coming from a self proclaimed Somalilander. You named your unrecognized enclave after a whole ethnic group. Puntland, the south, north are all Somaliland!!! The hypocracy! You speak of not thinking of us from your end, but then you name your place after everyone!! HAAAAAAH

somaliland is just generic name which can be applied to every area inhabited by somali speaking people. From djibouti, ogedenia, somalia, northern kenya all these lands can be classified as "somaliland"...

Puntland however is more historic place named by egpytian hatshepsut and the north-east of somalia was known as that land and therefore no somali can literally call themselves that name.

So our name is alot more historic due our region and unique name given to that ppl. Now somaliland name is just generic name with no historical context except when they were subjectated..zimbabw e was called rhodesia by the colonizer, do u see the zimbabwe ppl calling themselves after what colonial man called his land...of course not, they changed their name to zimbabwe...however due to sland slave mentality they think the colonial is a master to them and they still use the name given to that area by colonialist...sad but it just shows u they are conquered mentally by europeans..

Puntland was called by egyptians as land of god, it is source of pride that we use that name, and the egyptians were not colonizers either but trade partners who honoured us with such title.

So u can see the difference in the two ppl..the slander is boasting about a name given to him by someone who colonized him..whilsts the puntlander is calling himself a name given to him as a term of honor by egyptian trade partners NOT COLONIZERS..

We are better ppl always and u can see this in many aspects other then just the name of the areas...

Kajdes this about puntland ministers meeting with range resources the petroleum consortium to let them know that they can continue with the drilling of puntland oil and natural gas fields.

Puntland wanted to let them know that, that this region is peaceful region and that companies are welcome here to invest without feeling threatened of instability or war.

So it was pretty much a meeting between the new government in puntland and range resources, and to re-enforce the policy of puntland is that government will support the oil company whereever it needs so that puntland can develop better for the future

Osman has done a good summary of the post. A top level meeting between the Puntland leadership and Range resources. A little insight into whats going on, the article was not big on detail but its a good indication that things are moving foreword with regards to the oil exploration.

Can we expect an official statement of support from the Gov, and does anyone know why there has been no mention of the new constitution? It was reportedly tabled in parliament last Saturday.

Pilgrim, what do you mean that no puntland official has responded to the new constitution. It has been covered by many articles.

The new constitution includes the following amendments.

1. The region names bari, eastern sanaag, sool, cayn, bari, nugaal, northern mudug will be all called "waqoyi bari"

2. Complete democratization of the state where Multi-Party based democracy and one man one vote system is to be elemented.

3. Puntland will have new state flag and state anthem, however it will also recognize the federal somali flag and anthem at federal level.

That is pretty much the summary of the new constitution. They debated long and hard over it in parliament for over a week and is about to be ratified by government to put effective.

If that is what your talking about, when the parliament makes it effective, it should be very soon a couple of days at tops is my guess.

Can anybody tell why those who dead against the range resources project when Adde was in power, and were accusing Range of exploiting Somalia's resources, are now silent, and milking the cow?

It is amazing how people change, Somalis will never be free till we get rid off opportunists.

Dabshid, you were reading my mind!!! This is proof it had nothing to do with the actions of the previous admin concerning oil, but other factors that you can figure out.

General Duke and PeaceNow were always in favor of it and any kind of development, I'll admit that. But no one else was!!! All they spoke about was how bad dealing with a juniour firm was, and how Range Resources and African Oil were their to steal. They spoke about how it was illegal for the previous admin to deal with them directly was. Forget about SOL, President Faroole himself and his camp were the number one people against it before they took over, and continuously spoke about illegal contracts. They said Puntland wasn't able to sign such deals and that was the job of the Federal government. But we all know that if it was so illegal, he would never have let his ministers sit at the table with them and would have voided the deal.

But now he is asking for the international community to deal with him directly and not the Federal Government. President Faroole and the Federal

President Faroole camp(particularly his sons) have a very good grasp of the media and are able to sway the diaspora's opinion. This is why even when his son meets with Pirate leaders as reported by a foreign journalist their is not an uproar, or when his goverment is in meetings with the same oil companies he once said were conducting illegal business, yet still people remain silent. I knew from day one the outrage 3 and a half years ago concerning the signing of the oil contract had nothing to do with the legality of it. He just wanted to be behind the wheel, and he definitely pulled it off!

If it was illegal as they once said, they he wouldn't have to commit to it.

somalipride firstly i don't care if faroole seals the deal or cade muse does..wa totally irrelevant. What is relevant is how the fund's will be used to benefit the people of puntland.

If the experts are right and say their is billions of barrels and could possibly be the second biggest oil-field in africa...then there is billions of dollars to gain from it and i want to see the administration use those funds to advance puntland infrastructure, health, education, and foreign investments and security forces to be first class in the world.

It's irrelevant who is behind the wheel but what is relevant is what they do with it.

osman_nz, I was referring to when it would be ratified by Government. I'm also keen to see an English version of the constitution and how it covers resource development.
