Somali Adulterer stoned to death

Recommended Posts

Islamists in southern Somalia have stoned a man to death for adultery but spared his pregnant girlfriend until she gives birth.

Abas Hussein Abdirahman, 33, was killed in front of a crowd of some 300 people in the port town of Merka.

An official from the al-Shabab group said the woman would be killed after she has had her baby.

Islamist groups run much of southern Somalia, while the UN-backed government only control parts of the capital.

This is the third time Islamists have stoned a person to death for adultery in the past year.

Al-Shabab official Sheikh Suldan Aala Mohamed said Mr Abdirahman had confessed to adultery before an Islamic court.

"He was screaming and blood was pouring from his head during the stoning. After seven minutes he stopped moving," an eyewitness told the BBC.

The BBC's Mohammed Olad Hassan in Mogadishu says that if the woman is also killed, her baby would be given to relatives to look after.

Meanwhile, President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed has accused al-Shabab of spoiling the image of Islam by killing people and harassing women.

"Their actions have nothing to do with Islam," said the moderate Islamist during a ceremony at which he nominated a new administration for the capital, Mogadishu.

"They are forcing women to wear very heavy clothes, saying they want them to properly cover their bodies but we know they have economic interests behind - they sell these kinds of clothes and want to force people to buy them."

Last month, two men were stoned to death in the same town after being accused of spying.

A 13-year-old girl was stoned to death for adultery in the southern town of Kismayo last year.

Human rights groups said she had been raped.

Another man has also been punished in this way in the Lower Shabelle region.

Mr Sharif, a former rebel leader, was sworn in as president after UN-brokered peace talks in January.

Although he says he also wants to implement Sharia, al-Shabab says his version of Islamic law would be too lenient.

The country has not had a functioning national government for 18 years.

To be governed under the Islamic Sharia Law is a beautiful thing and every Muslim should support that, but i honestly don't think Somalia is ready to be governed under the Sharia Law at this particullar moment, as there are too many corruptions going on inside the country and what not. Wallahu Aclam!

Ninka ma xaasla uu ahaa?

Qoraalkana 'girlfriend' ku qoran, marka either kan soo qoray wax ka qaldanyihiin mise qof single ah gabar uureeye ahaa.

Hadduu single yahay, waaba qalad xukunkaan. Hadduu xaasle yahayna, waa lagu deg degay. I don't believe their "admission." Qofkee karbaashaan, dilaan iyo wax u geystaanba, the victims always "confess" to their alleged crimes.

Iyagii dambiga kusoo rogaayo, iyagii ayaa qaaliga ah, isla iyagii ayaa fulinaayo maxkamadda markee xukunto oo isla iyagii ah again.

Badowyaashaan runtii yaa dadkeena ka qabto.

Kamoon, Geelka. I just don't believe he admitted, even if uu uureeye iyada. I don't believe their sheeko sheeko that he "confessed."

Qofkee qabtaan, kuna ridaan xukunkooda deg dega ah always "admits" the said alleged crimes against him or her, don't you agree?

Mida kale, again my su'aalo I already asked are relevant. Was he a married? According to this article, it doesn't mention. On another article, in Afsoomaali, waxee leeyihiin in uu kufsaday, which brings another whole matter, not to mention if she is the same person la "kufsaday," why iyadana loo dilaayaa markee dhasho?

It doesn't make sense. Wax la isku dardarooyo waaye.

^ I agree with you that vital information is missing from all the reporting of this incident which is a dishonest way of reporting or mounting a smear campaign.

you already decided to blame the mujaahidin this just gives you an excuse sxb.

you don't have an answer for all these questions that you posed but you still jump to conclusions.

personally I prefer to give these brave young men the benefit of the doubt

These "brave young men" have proven beyond reasonable doubt, in May 2009, that they care about nothing except POWER. Therefore they don't deserve sh*t, not even the benefit of the doubt.

The adulteress and the adulterer then flog each of them with hundred stripes, and you should not be compassionate for them in the religion of Allah if you believe in Allah and the Last day. And let a party of the Muslims be present at the time of their punishment.

Surah Al Nuur, versus 2

Considering Adultery is unlawful sex between married individual and someone who is not is lawful partner, I think all this 'it's Sharia law' is bull!

And that's not even looking at the conditions surrounding determining if someone committed adultery.

Sharia law sets out that four witness must see the actual act. I suppose it's a bit like "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her".

I second that. Al Shabab's cause is lost at this point and it is clear that they're holding on to false ideals(you cant even defend what they're doing under the Sharia).
